I think a truly great dark side user like Darth Plagieus would be able to fully draw into the dark side without losing himself. Darth Vitiate definitely comes into mind as a Sith who ruled for millennia. Palpatine was not as wise and self-controlled as Plagieus or Vitiate though he did gather knowledge and master almost every aspect of the Force, light and dark, as evidenced in Canon and Dark Empire. Palpatine really didn't bullshit Anakin (for a change) when he said you needed to understand the Force in all its aspects.

I always had this idea of the dark and light side like this: when an user tabs into the dark side it overcharges his Midi-chlorians what results into damage to the users body but if you stay in the light you don't overcharge them but spread the load over the Midi-chlorians. lets take anakin as example: he may have like 20 000 one them in his body but when he was in the light he only used 1000, when he turned to the dark side he still used those 1000 but overcharged them. This is simply how i understood the force a few years back i found it a funny theory but what i wrote above has no real bases.

If Obi-Wan died, Anakin would have taken Padme and their children, eventually killed Palpatine and ruled the Empire as a royal family of Skywalkers. In the now "Legends" novel Yoda:Dark Rendezvous, Dooku expresses concern about Yodas potential turn to darkness. He says that if Yoda were to turn that the universe would not yet even be prepared for such terrifying amount of power. And he states that even Darth Sidious would surely be ANNIHILATED. Not killed or destroyed, but annihilated. So yes I think that dark Yoda would become the mosf powerful Force user ever in the history of the galaxy. He would even come close in power to The Ones. A scarry thought.

Red herring question imo - Yoda is a grandmaster and able to be so because he completely rejects the dark side. - The dark side isn't inherently more powerful otherwise there'd be an everlasting rule of sith lords or at least no peace. - Jedi are bound by morality and law - the sith are not. - Jedi's power comes from their innate selfishness, sacrifice and defending of peace. - Sith's power comes through hatred, destruction and the like. - One isn't necessarily more powerful than the other. - Yoda (if not for the environment and old age) was arguably more powerful already than sidious (a man born to hate and be evil - one of the most powerful and manipulative sith lords ever). To conclude - the dark side may grant certain abilities such as force lightning and force draining, it may make a person inclined to ignore their morality and the laws of the land to cause harm, death and destruction - however it doesn't ultimately make someone more powerful and wouldn't regardless of the power of the person.

What if Obi-wan and Maul teamed up in "A New Hope"? Now before anyone says it's impossible, remember that Maul doesn't have to like Obi-wan, and could simply see him as a means to an end. Also, Obi wan could try to have Maul see the light, and try to help him let go of the pain and move on as he had. Let's not forget, Maul had greater ambitions then revenge. He wanted Sidious dead, and nearly had the power in rebels at the end of season 2. It's not impossible.
