As a track & field runner I can tell you that everyone in our club is doing ice baths and it's the only thing that I can think of that really has this immediate "cooling" effect. Especially when we have 2x trainings per day and most of us are already feeling sored and dead just after the first training session ended. So we have this saying "go get the new legs for the second phase" meaning go have a ice bath for the second run.
@fryPS5 жыл бұрын
Bilal Flores Don’t ice baths affect your muscle gains?
@hatlicks185 жыл бұрын
If your muscles are already toast, you need to recover before going again. Its pointless and even dangerous to do that...
@arsenihohlatov92703 жыл бұрын
2 years later you should know it is a myth
@AndrewG9753 жыл бұрын
The research seems to indicate that ice baths have a negative effect for hypertrophic/strengths gains, however for ability to repetitively perform, has a benefit. EG for cyclists doing two session in a day, those that ice baths were able to perform significantly better in the second session than those who do not.

Always listen to your body and respond accordingly, if your body tells you to rest (soreness), rest; if it tells you to stop (pulls, and ruptures) , stop. Likewise, if it tells you and it needs more elecrolytes (cramps), or protein (weakness), or fats (wrinkles) or all of the above then do what you need to do to heal properly. But in some cases especially where you're in pain, a non addictive pain reliever makes sense.

No way to get rid of soreness ofc. Only rest and food. But let me try to explain this. Footballers dont get sore very often because they maintain the same performance. Its like doing pushups every 2nd day. After some time your muscles wont get sore or it will be just a bit

Only when I work out my upper body (chest and arms) is when I really feel DOMS. If I do heavy leg workouts and soccer, then I feel it. But right after, it’s a soreness I can’t really describe, other than it kind of feels like growing pains
@memehehe58196 ай бұрын
Usually people think that soreness could be helped by stretching, ice bath and foamrolling. Really it is like 1 % of the recovery. The other 99 % are nutrition, hydration and sleep.

I am 35 and played English football ( soccer) week in week out since I was 8. I am struggling bad these days and it happened around the age 32. My feet, legs, heels, abdomen, are beyond sore for about 5 days now and then I play on the 7th day and I repeat the cycle. It's making me feel like calling it a day now . I used to play 3 times a week. I honestly am a mess for my working week. Can't be normal this ?

Yeah I am 34, playing football (soccer) and same thing happened to me. Probably the last 4 years it really starts to catch up with me. Stretching does help but my legs are aching so much on the same night I play that it effects my sleep too. I think I may have to go back to trying ice baths as the inflammation gets to a point where the next day is a bit of a write off. Also forget trying to do legs in the gym the following days.

To make this long story short I started Playing football when I was about 7 years old. I played for 3 teams as a LM and RM. I won tournaments. I had talent I was told from many players and Coaches. I quit around age 13 because I didn't have a drive anymore (Dumb Teen rebel phase). Later on I realized my mistake of quitting and I instantly regret it. I played my junior and senior year in high school in Varsity. Im 21 now Im not in college and I don't know what do to I miss the beautiful game a lot. Should I start playing for college? Is it too late to go pro? Even for MLS? How do I get my skills back?
