The "Aliens" don't stay the same shape at all. They vary wildly between each host. Thus the name: Xenomorph. They sold a wild array of toys from the original two movies based off various life forms of what the facehuggers would implant. The idea would be that there's a baseline DNA that they all shared, but the other half of the DNA came from the host. From there it would always change it's shape, size, etc based on the DNA of their last host. The Queen and drones baseline DNA was supposed to otherwise be the banana head we commonly see, but even then the head can change if it's, say, a Pred-alien.

I personally would have made the scene less stupid. For example, the ship wont stay straight up like that eventually it will fall left or right as well. So to make the humans look less stupid like, they could have had shaw trip, and live but the blond be smart and run off out of the shadow, then the ship falls in her direction any way. That would have added to the hopelessness of the situation and shut a bunch of people up.

David is a important character in this film, he tells us alot about ourselves as humans and he reflects what the engineers themselves may really be about. Ahh but this is the thing, what if Vickers were in some way a more advanced android than David, what if she were able to not only mimic (to near perfection) human emotion, but what if she actually felt emotions in somekind of way. Remember Ash was also in cryo with the rest of the crew, the line "more human than human" comes to mind with her and remember what Bishop once said "the A2s always were abit twitchy."

I have a feeling the real Meredith Vickers is either still on Earth or at Weyland main headquarters on Mars, and that Vickers on Prometheus was a android sent by Yutani to find out just exactly what Weyland was upto and where they were headed. Ridley gives us clues, when he even said "their maybe two" robots in the movie, Prometheus is a very ambiguous film and its only connection to Alien is really actually Peter Weyland himself.

the xenomorphs already exist by the event of prometheus, theyre just presumably undiscovered by humans. a carving of a xenomorph can be seen on the murals in the engineer base near the start of the movie. the thing that bursts from the engineers stomach is an amalgamation of the engineer dna and the trilobites, its not strictly related to the xenomorphs.

I think we've reached the point now where they can esialy make any Idea look totally realistic, cgi seems to b the answer to everything especially in that area wen it comes to making movies. Altho the sets were beautifully detailed in this film, I actually liked the simple small Ideas of the engineer technology, like the panels that light up wen David brushes his finger across them. And the Idea of thier holographical tech, bordering between sumkind of digital and organic was really nice.

Agreed, I never took to Enterprise series for that exact reason, that the enterprise actually looked more 50s ahead of Kirk's enterprise. Its like the recent Star Trek revival, I find it funny how the exterior and bridge of the enterprise is all sleek, yet the engine area literally looks like its from a oil rig. About the whole Ampules and Xeno eggs, all I can say so far about this is, that maybe the engineers forefathers originally tampered with the xeno eggs, probably originally used them as thier main bio-weapon. But becus they cud b quite unstable, they chose to re-amend thier bio-weapon into a more controllable version, a synthetic viral bio-weapon in the form of the ampules. And thier facility got wiped out in this process. Trust me it does my head in trying to piece everything together sumtimes.

But the thing with Prometheus is the whole creation and evolution, its exploring those very Ideas together, and that for many can be a very controversial Issue. Also theres a philosophical element at play here too, and I notice how you only seem to focus on just the science, but maybe that is your preferred field.

If there was one thing that I liked about the AVP movies and games, it was the backstory of Weyland Yutani, which for the longest time was the canon backstory. Then this movie comes around and suddenly those backstories are not canon. I just don't like it when a writer re writes stories like that. I'm all for retconns as long as the pre-established story is canon, but this kind of re writing just pisses me off. Don't get me wrong, Prometheus is a good movie, and miles above anything AVP related, but I don't like it enough to consider it the new canon.

Arthur, this is a prequel, Yutani is another company that merges with Weyland corp later in the future, if you follow the movies and the lore you would know this ;). They did a good job, this is before everything happened.

Jose R I know that, but I meant the backstory of Weyland corp just doesn't add up. the backstory I've grown to accept is the one where Weyland Industries was founded by Charles Bishop Weyland in the mid to late 20th century, and after that, it was run by either his descendents or androids pretending to be his descendents even after the merger with Yutani, and most of its drive was in search of the Xenomorphs, which they first encountered very early on. Prometheus contradicts this, having Weyland get founded in the mid to late 21st century by Peter Weyland, who is not a descendent of Charles, and presumably has no children, and they couldn't have encountered the xenomorphs from very early on, because they are just coming into existence in this movie.. Also, it's Arthus, not Arthur.

I dunno. To me, some of the EU stuff seemed to get away from Star Wars a bit, especially after the groundrules were finally established during the prequels (Being born force sensitive, 1 jedi appentice, knighthood, Boba's origins, etc). All the stuff they had to retconn in the EU at that point was kind of a bummer. IMO the vong invasion was pretty weak (and terribly long), Luke's apprenticeship with the Reborn emperor flew in the face of everything he'd stood for in ROTJ and Chewie's EU death was repulsive. Granted this is my opinion so take it with a grain of salt, but I'm not a fan of some of the Star Wars EU. My best friend on the other hand has read every novel and can't get enough of it.

But the Idea is that Weyland resents his daughter because he always wanted a son to pass his company onto. Weyland and Yutani did fight over patents to do with robots. I think Vickers may be a android created by the rival company Yutani to pose as Weyland's daughter and find out what he was upto, and I think she may have something like a emotion chip which affected her behavior, perhaps even confusing her acting too human, which also would have kept her cover amongst the rest of the crew.

I was in the theater and I remember blurting out when the heroine was running under the space ship; "Run perpendicular to the axis of and large falling object you fool!" I use big words when I'm under stress, but it made more sense than what the Director threw at us and he had a lot more time.

It amazes me how many people make that argument, ignoring the fact that when they started running, there was a load of burning exploding debris (from the exploded Prometheus) falling all around them. Under the curve of the 'Engineer' ship was the only place the stuff wasn't landing, so it's not as stupid as many people have made it sound. Watch it again, and notice the bits of burning debris hitting the ground and exploding to their left and right. Would you run out into that if you thought you could outrun the ship instead? If they hadn't tripped, it would have been a good idea, after all the ship stopped rolling a few seconds after it squashed Vickers. If she hadn't tripped, she would have been fine. What bothered me about that scene was actually how the ship ended up crashing near them at all and then landing right way up. Firstly it was moving away from Vickers and Shaw, and was hit from behind so it makes no sense that it would fall backwards, and if you notice how it hits the ground, the bridge (top) of the ship is on the wrong side. Between shots, the film makers flipped it round before it fell towards Shaw, because otherwise it would have ended up upside down.
