I served in the USMC for 17 years and I can tell you my recruiter was almost exactly like that. He actually made me feel that he was doing me a favor, by letting me join the corps. In 48 hours, all of my paperwork was done and I was sworn in and had my date for shipping out 2 months later. Before then I had never even considered joining. I will say this. I knew a guy who became a correction officer and got jumped once. Concussion, two black eyes, one ruptured cornea, cracked ribs, internal bleeding, stuck in hospital for 2 weeks, was in physical therapy for months. The Air Force is sprinkled around more locations. Also, over the years the other branches are starting to catch up as far a quality of life which is a very good thing. I wish I could go back and work with any service branch as a civilian. These cry babies in the corporate world are a constant headache. A woman said someone was "single shaming" her. I asked if she was serious or joking. I really didn't know that was a thing.

We were leaning Army because my dad and older brother were both paratroopers with the 82nd so we wanted to continue the tradition. They're actually pretty nice though as he explained the extra long basic training process they had I was cemented in the decision to pass off the marines. The have the longest basic training time.

I had a bit of a different experience with recruiters. Army: Talks quickly in a low mumble about the various ways to become an 11A. Always asked me if I had Instagram. Air Force: Seemed almost intimidated when I told him I wanted to join the Army. Navy: Actually pretty chill, when I told him that I wanted to join the Army he was like, "Oh that's cool man." Air Force wants you to be 100% dedicated to service, a full attitude of they will put you where they need you. The only time they want you to know what job you want is if it's special forces or specific jobs they have in demand (currently ATC)

Katrina Jones yes. If you were injured, you go to an appointment at the clinic and they’d give you a waiver for whatever your condition was. So if you had a knee injury, you would be on a dead mans waiver which prevents marching, facing movements, and running. So many people had them it was sad

Oh my god. This is exactly what happened to me at the Air Force recruiter. I was 33, I ended up getting a 97 on the ASVAB. They said I was too old and basic told me to get lost. I walked out of the Air Force Recruiters office thinking I was too old for the military. I was damn near tackled by Army Recruiters outside the Air Force office. They offered me any enlisted job in the Army, and gave me $20,000 for a 2 year Reduced-MSO.

I was 21 with no college behind me, it took me about a year of going to awfully timed meetings that required me to miss work, but I showed up early every time and did everything my recruiter asked, he actually gave his personal recommendation to let me join, if you can actually find an Air Force recruiter and give the process a 110% effort you can get in. A high ASVAB doesn’t hurt either. In my recruiters words “the Air Force wants adults, not children”.
