As a Company Commander in Germany circa 1984 (former NCO), I had a soldier that wanted out so bad that this person admitted to eating his way out and did it by eating everything in site. Wish granted to be discharged for being grossly overweight. Long story short is 10 years later while back in Germany I ran into this person now happily married to a German and all excess weight was gone. This person was a very good soldier but wanted out to marry a German and live there. That's commitment.
@joshuanewcombe84543 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the soldier life gets to people. I did 10 years multiple deployments and taskings but just burned out...started getting depressed and gained weight. Had a severe case of PTSD as well. Nearly 11 years later, I can smoke the PT test, better shape than 80% of soldiers in now, make 6 figures, have a wonderful wife and kids...couldn't be happier. I thought I was a lifer, but 9/11 soldiers were used and abused extensively. We were treated like garbage.

I signed enlistment papers....... I don't know how I managed it but I finally got out after 12 years... now I miss it and hate civilian life.

When I left I started working as a software engineer. Then one of my buddies invited me to lunch (reserve unit) so I met up with the old unit in my work clothes and my Citizen's watch. One guy joked that I was making $80/hr and the 1ST SGT tried to be polite but he looked frustrated so I didn't talk to him. I actually liked the people in my unit so I didn't say anything bad, but I could tell there were re-uppers wondering why they didn't ETS. Almost five decades ago I was the same way. Remember being processed out on the USS Saratoga. Chief NRC gave me the whole spiel. I was nice. No, chief, I said, I'll pass. Two weeks later I'm sittin' in a blank apartment thinking "fuck." . . . Maybe ten years some ago I watched a former shipmate retire from the USNR. Envied his ass big time. . . . 'Course the job I had is gone (I was a radioman, which doesn't exist any more) and the tech is all changed (don't even ask) and although what I learned in the USN paid the way for the next forty years, there are days upon days when I wish I'd stayed. I'd have retired an RM before RMs disappeared and I'd have still had time to spend what I knew about that before the tech changed in civilian life too. . . . Yep. Thems was the days, thems. . . . But . . . I ain't stupid enough now at 74 to think that I would want to be in the USN of today. It was a lot lighter back then. Way lot. But I loved that job. And I was fuckin' good at it.

shiiid im SO glad i went to admin in the USMC. i knew exactly which files to keep so that i could make myself look really good in the face of the VA. granted i do have a lot of medical problems that should be addressed due to my 7 years in service such as bullying by my peers, but still i am in a good place.

I served from Sep 12, 2005 - Sep 12, 2009. In those days, we had the 2 war's cracking. The Army was no joke and hands-on. I thank my D/S Herny [Black Drill from North Carolina]. I wish I could return you the fav by preparing me for down range. I am 36 yrs old, and I will forget you for making a soldier the hard way. Shit was real back then when the war's were cracking.

I am just about to go in myself now. 27D active duty. Not like it will be glorious infantry but one thing I want to take away. I want to be like these guys, they know the bullshit, they know the crap that no one likes, they know it sucks, but at the same time they have fun with it. They been around the block and they do things that conforms to code but still has this air of fun. I hope I can enjoy it as much as these guys have

The grass on the side of the fence you're standing on automatically turns greener the moment you step out of it.And the grass on the other side of the fence which clearly was greener before you stepped on it now turned brown the moment you stepped on it. And vice versa. You just can't win.

Applies even with jobs too. learned that one quick for a civilian. Grass ain't always as green as the painting looks.

He'll No civillan life sucks I'm thinking about Active Duty Guard . 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year isn't enough to work a shithole civillan job. I love the military they don't tolerate the shit a civilian can get away with. All my coworkers want to hang out with me i brush it off . I can't stand being around civillans. Civillan life is also boring as fuck .

@@Texasmilitarydepartmentvid9654 Yeah that's right man, im not in the millitary yet, but i don't like of the civilian life. Its boring, i really don't understand this people who hates the millitary routine

@@Texasmilitarydepartmentvid9654 as a former guardsman, I concur. I just cope with civi life by going to the bar with other ex-military people from time to time and watch KZbin after a long day at the office.
