How Royalty & VIPs are escorted around London by police 👑

A compilation of videos showing the highly skilled Special Escort Group (SEG) transporting motorcades of Royal Family members, US President Donald Trump and senior politicians in London. These VIPs travel under the security of the Metropolitan Police's Protection Command.
The Special Escort Group are responsible for safely transporting world leaders, royalty, senior politicians, dignitaries, prisoners and other high-value persons or objects through the busy streets of London and the UK. As a result all members of the SEG are armed, and also travel in armoured vehicles such as Range Rovers and BMWs. The motorcycles aren't equipped with sirens and instead the police officers use whistles to grab the public's attention.

A siren is associated with vehicles and the first thing people have in mind is getting out of the way. Hearing a whistle makes you look for a human and expect some instructions, so it makes more sense.

Watching this video traffic seames a lot less congested now in central London than when I lived in London in the 80s I was a London bus driver then and traffic was always congested trying to keep the bus to run by the timetable was impossible

I don't get why the yanks have no issue with transporting tonnes of vehicles around the world, just for the purpose of being there, especially to countries like the UK that are pretty much the Gold Standard when it comes to escorting VIPs. It must cost an absolute fortune.

It's mostly for show anyway. Outside of the US they don't get their own way so much - they have to comply with local laws and are generally not allowed to engage or interfere with the local civilian population. They will get support but they do not run the show. And I think it's also very representative of how the US is perceived in the world that such an absurd level of 'security' is required in the first place. Even tin pot literally genocidal dictators don't have half the security going on.

Whilst I understand the reason which is very valid. I don’t understand how they blow a whistle in their helmets that can be heard outside. In my helmet I wouldn’t have room for a whistle. Anyone got any info?

@@heli-crewhgs5285 They don't, it's a standard ACME Thunderer with a Brooks airway squeezed on to the end of it, which means the whistle sits below the chin bar of the helmet, which is also standard apart from in-helmet comms.
