How's Project Gotham Racing 4 on PC?

PGR4 is my most favourite racing game ever. The graphics were amazing for the time, and I think they still are. I would LOVE to see this get the 4K 60 treatment!

I never played any of the games of the PGR franchise, but holy crap it looks good. Also, emulation in the future will be crazy, just imagine emulating Driveclub in your computer. Great video as always, Jake!

Never clicked video faster before. It is such a shame PGR4 is forgotten and we will never see successor or rerelease... PGR4 is propably my favourite non-sim racing game of all time beating all Forza and GT titles by margin. Will 100% try emulated version soon.

Even as a sim racer, pgr2 and pgr4 are some of my favorite games ever. The only hope is that emulators get good enough in the future that these games can be played on high resolution on modern pc's without needing a monster pc. Luckily I still have my OG and 360 xbox still.

One of my all time favorite racing games!! I still play it on occasion on my 360. This was my most wanted game to move forward with BC on Series X/S but it didn't. It's bitter sweet.

This is great to hear, I've been itching to try some older racing games via emulation and this looks to be a solid contender. Had to RMA my RAM, finally getting a replacement after over 3 weeks, so I can unlock more potential of my CPU because right now I'm using a slow single stick I could muster budget for my build. Specs are: CPU: R7 3700X GPU: also GTX 1070, but a SC ACX 3.0 from EVGA RAM: 16GB 3200MHz CL16 under the normal circumstances. OS: W10 I'll test it out right when I can with my build since I have a stronger CPU that should help in certain circumstances over yours. :P

Looks like you have better specs, but I’m not sure if Xenia is more CPU or GPU bound, and I’m not sure if it prefers Intel or AMD.

Would like to say we also got MCLA and Grid 2 as backwards compatable. Anyways awesome vid! I have both PGR 3 and PGR4. I picked up PGR 3 for $1.75 as a loose disc in a GameStop store around 2016, and it still plays great to this day. Hopefully PGR 3 will run as well

PGR3 runs fine, but the audio has massive issues last time I tried. However, it could’ve been fixed since the last time I tried it.

Damn, this looks good. Btw, you should check out Midnight Club LA emulation on RPCS3, they seemed to have made a lot of progress on that game. Don't know about xenia tho.

Looks like if I can turn some of the shadows off I’ll be able to run it at 30, but before it gets better I’ll stick with playing it on Xbox One personally.

fun fact, the latest builds of Xenia have been worked on to make Forza Motorsport 4 more playable, but you need to modify some things to make it proper, like in the config enabling readback_resolve and mount_cache, and in the game, fully extracting it and changing the renderscenarios to disable the main glitched shadows also, the developers of Xenia really don't want piracy to be mentioned since it can probably land them in hot water lol

This game was awesome. Peak Xbox360 era imo. Along with Skate 3, I wasted too many hours on this. Pity Driveclub didn't mix the cars and bikes on track like this.

I wonder how this is going, if it has been improved or not. Also, PGR3. The PGR series on the 360 are my favorite games on it and the only reason I have a sealed 360 and 2 copies of each game, in case I need to use the other. But if I could play PGR3 and PGR4 on my PC...that would be lovely.

I bought that game when new, I was in my earlier days in the military, all the countries I went to either had boot leg or PAL versions, it wasn't untill I hit Hawaii where I finally was able to purchase the game at GameStop, I still have the physical copy but no 360, I have the OG Xbox and the one lol, but no 360, now I need to try this out.

don't know what is wrong with mine config but ryzen 7 5800x3d 2x16gb ddr4 3600mhz and RX7900GRE barely keeps 30fps in this game , but i noticed gpu utilization is low .60fps patch is of course enabled . Already tried messing with xenia config but so far no luck .

I downloaded the game onto my usb drive but it doesn't show up in the usb drive when I go to copy it to my pc and convert it to iso? :/ Edit: Nevermind, it turns out that the game was part of the hidden files on the usb drive, I found it after I toggled that option!

Honestly, Project Gotham Racing 4 runs well on Xenia with V-sync turned off.

Thanks for uploading this. I spent a few years on PGR 4 online and still love it! I liked it so much at the time that I bought 4 copies of the game in case I damaged a disc :) Now I am planning to set up some consoles with system link. Do you know if there were any DLC track packs? I seem to recall Long Beach??? It would be great to some how get stuff like that ...

There was DLC, I think Long Beach was one of them! I know Xenia now has a built-in DLC install function now, but I'm not exactly sure where the best place to actually acquire the DLC is, as I haven't tried to find it myself yet.

The backcompat program ending doesn't delist all of the games that are compatible, but it means that they won't make any new games compatible after this wave. However I have seen some pull out their 360's after getting tired of waiting and seeing them just stop the program.

does it work properly on a normal asus tuf gaming laptop ? it's not really a potato but I tried playing it and it had quite a bad fps just asking cuz it could've been the roms problem. another problem it had was the first time you get out of the game and try to play the game again it would never start again

I only liked the first PGR game and still felt it was kinda a downgrade over MSR. I felt they really cranked the difficulty too high in the later games. Although looking at them now, I think the big problem was they all suffered from tank controls due to too much controller latency, due to the technology of the time. Its frustrating as a PGR 5 running at 60-120fps would likely be a huge improvement. Trouble is, most racing games these days are either focusing on realism of the cars over graphics, or are online where they never push the graphics that hard as they want it to scale to really low hardware to get the numbers to warrant the server upkeep. There's really nothing quite like PGR today.

I’ve never actually seen someone with a dual card setup try Xenia before, so I can’t answer. Xenia is more GPU dependent though.

I got it working too, too bad there's no tuning, upgrades or anything for the cars. Its pure arcade progression, just buy a faster car and move on...which is kind of a bummer for me, I mean its fine if you like that sort of thing but it seems like a wasted opportunity to make something long lasting. All the old Forzas and Gran Turismos can be played indefinitely because of the tuning, upgrades and modifications. All these years later and people have been playing those games since they released, its crazy how good they are and have stood the test of time. PGR seems more like a just a nostalgia kind of thing.

On Xenia I can’t even start Forza 4 anymore after their scaling update for AMD cards. They made progress but a lot of regressions too.

Yeah I haven’t been able to start FM4 either even though I’m on NVIDIA. It wasn’t really playable anyway, I didn’t play it there so I wasn’t too disappointed. I’d say they’ve made more progress than regression though, the “fix one thing and break others” is common in development, especially with a rough emulator like Xenia.

Yea true, hopefully 360 emulation will be solid in 4 years though sooner would be preferable. I wonder if anyone ever got Xbox One, or Series home brew working if they modify the emulation file like on the 360 how a lot of unsupported games would square up compared to the original hardware. Crazy to think somewhere in the world these companies maybe have these games as a executable which they can run on a windows system with little to no trouble.

Using Redream, yes. It’s very easy to emulate as well unlike PGR4.

Currently not available to my knowledge because Xenia doesn’t support multiple profiles at the time. I said this near the end of the video, but it’s quite unfortunate.

The state of OG Xbox emulation is pretty sad. I can run JSRF at 10x resolution at a solid 60fps but if I dare to try PGR2 or Burnout 3… yikes.
