David, thank you and Stephen for the excellent analysis of the Toyota Tacoma and other trucks. I lean towards the TRD PRO, however, my preference is the bronze green color instead of Terra. Nice to have more options in the small truck category.

Why didn’t you sit at the front adjust the seat then go at the back and compare the spacing?? Just a suggestion

I’d take the Trailhunter over the TRD Pro. Prefer the matte finish on the grill and fenders. Love the addition of the air compressor. Couldn’t care less about isodynamic seats, what a waste of leg space and costs.

Toyota wrote the book on trucks. If they ever brought the Hilux to North America, it would decimate all other offerings from any Big 3 automaker. Period.

Thanks David and Steven! Very informative and interesting video. For me, the biggest factor in deciding which truck I will buy now a days has to the vehicles reliability and resale value. With the prices as high as they are I have to buy the vehicle that will give me the best return on that investment when its time to sell or trade-in.

I checked out a 2023 Tacoma TRD Pro at the Toyota dealer in Oxnard, CA, last week and it was shocking how terribly the doors and opened and closed. They sounded awful, and the driver's door in particular would not close without a very hard push, and made a sickening can opener noise when it opened. On the same sales floor was a new Crown and a CPO 2021 Land Cruiser Heritage. Both the Crown's and LC's doors closed beautifully, with little force, and they sounded nice opening and closing. I was shocked at how poorly the Tacoma doors felt. It was unacceptable, in my opinion.

I don’t think it looks “tougher” at all. I don’t like the squared off edges or the sharp angles on the inside that will make it impossible to dust or clean. Isometric seats (or whatever they are called) are a waste of the customer’s money. Some things are nice but overall we are headed towards an electronic nightmare that will leave us wondering how we got here. One other thing that has me scratching my head is, with the rear seat room being eaten up by the air adjustable front seats they have become almost useless which begs the question why even have rear seats. They would do well to offer a long bed regular cab pickup which would sell well for people who want bed space for work. It seems like the more we change things the worse we make it. If you’re not racing Baja the seat thing is just stupid and such a niche market that it’s an awfully expensive item that will just break.

What a treat to see two great truck guys on the same video! I would choose the Trail Hunter over the TRD Pro. Both are amazing! The new Tacoma will be hard to beat in general. I would probably choose the TRD Sport with 6’ bed. I am very interested in the new Tacoma’s real world payload. I want a 6’ bed for camping gear to support my 2,900 lb camper. Will there be the payload to support the 6’ bed (putting a topper on the bed and filling it with gear)? Hey, a Honda Ridgeline sports 1,500 plus lbs of payload on every trim. Will the new Tacoma be able to match this in terms of real world payload? I, too, am also interested in all the other midsize trucks. The Frontier is a sweet bread and butter truck. Gladiators are sweet, rough around the edges, and pricey. The new GMC/Chevy products are the most improved. The Ridgeline is 90% of the truck that 95% of the population needs. Love its reliability, ride quality, storage solutions, back seat space, safety, etc. Looking forward to the ‘24 TrailSport trim. I am buying at the end of 2024. I am price conscious, reliability conscious, and safety conscious in addition to needing a truck for towing and hauling a small camper and gear.

It's too early to tell whether the Tacoma will be hard to beat or not. Nobody knows cause they haven't been allowed to drive them. The new powerplant might be terrible, who knows. In any case, dealerships are going to kill this right away with their ridiculous price gouging. Until people vote with their wallets and stop paying these artificially-inflated prices, that will never stop.
@deanmay338 Жыл бұрын
@@shootloadrepeat I can’t imagine the segment leader (Toyota) not being competitive with their new gen Tacoma. I agree with you completely regarding dealer markups, etc. I will definitely vote with my wallet in terms of what I purchase at the end of 2024. For that matter, I will buy late model used or wait until 2025. I have never paid MSRP or above in my life and don’t plan to start now.

Toyota engineering, new vehicle development and production process in my opinion is the best in the industry. The focus is extreme and true craftsmanship. However, Toyota makes it so difficult to buy the vehicle with the trim level and options you want. The dealer allocation system sucks! Even David with all the vehicles he buys and the leverage he has can’t get the color of vehicle he wants …like Nori Green; had to settle initially for another color. This is crazy! TPS is a very flexible production system and is tailored to build exactly what the customer wants…. Not to push product at the customer with trim levels and options they don’t want. You can factory order a vehicle from Subaru and get exactly what you want. Why can’t Toyota do this for their customer? They can, but won’t. Shame on Toyota! And Toyota owns 20% of Subaru. Why is Subaru better? No excuse. Many Toyota dealers currently taking advantage of customers(MSRP) etc., hurting the brand, maybe factory orders like Subaru would help mitigate the dealer damage to the brand.

Hi David, great video. However, there are no air vents in the back seat. These trucks are very expensive and they should provide air to the back passengers. They could have left off the trd pro seats and the detachable speaker. I would probably buy one, but I can't without air vents for my passengers. Doesn't make since to build such beautiful trucks without air vents in the back.😢😮😢

I really want to see an EV Tacoma. Maybe they'd have to make some compromises in the initial years to keep the range decent, like using smaller diameter and skinny tires, but I'd love to see it nonetheless. I am hoping Toyota's solid state batteries really catch them up to the general EV market once they have them ready. I am not a fan of PHEVs and have no interest in seeing the Tacoma get one. Hybrid truck is great, EV truck is great, I don't need the middle ground

My current generation TRD Pro Tacoma is an ergonomic nightmare. It’s literally impossible to get comfortable in the truck. And let’s not forget about the annoying 6-speed transmission that is constantly hunting for the right gear. I hope the all new 4th generation Tacoma addresses all the weaknesses of the 3rd generation truck.
