Once again, super informative video! I appreciate how you gave the breakdown without setting specific income expectations since it truly depends on the runs you make as an individual.

Logan, You seem pretty pleased with the job overall. Hang in there because as time passes things get better and better. Higher pay, better runs, and when the time comes a great bid run. Along with all the bennies and easy to work with management a guy can't go wrong. ABF is a company that you want to stay with. It's a lifetime gig!! The best of the best. I say that after many years over the road with them. Sacramento 155, retired. Take care and keep that great attitude.

Albuquerque is the only wheel board in the ABF system. It’s the fairest way to run the extra board first in first out. I’m an Albuquerque driver that has a bid to Claude I’m soon to be a Las Vegas driver on this change of operation. Good job talking about this awesome company.

The axles on you tractor are called the steer and the drives. Each slot on your fifth wheel is about 25-50 pounds it doesn’t make much difference for the steer axle. I would’ve taken the single axle on that long box as long as it’s under 20k. You need a twin axle when it’s over 20k.

@hurt1704
@hurt1704 19 күн бұрын
No way in hell I would bank my retirement on abf being around in 30 years. Not putting them down at all, it’s just literally every other union ltl carrier has constantly cut pensions, and then went out of business. They go out, you aren’t drawing near what you were suppose to if anything. Scary to say the least. The pension sounds great, but so does a 401k that you can guarantee will be there. I’m going to take my chances elsewhere because I’d bet money abf isn’t around in 30 years
@puddintoot
@puddintoot Жыл бұрын
You really should put the landing gear down on the trailer then drop the bags it takes the weight off of the fifth wheel. You put more weight on your drive axle by sliding the fifth wheel forward
@charlespuckett8429
@charlespuckett8429 Жыл бұрын
Just so you know switching was not necessary, the single axel weights is about 1000 pounds lighter, so it would have not been a issue. You would lose that much because their is only one axel an a shorter frame, you could google the weight difference to know exactly. I also work for ABF I watch for your pay break down it didn't help at all, but over all I like it. I'm surprised the company allows it, keep on trucking.

If I understand correctly, the single screw tractor drive axle has a maximum allowable weight of 20,000 pounds which would could have been an issue if you had not swapped tractors. The double screw tractor drive axles have a maximum allowable weight of 34,000 pounds so you had about 14,000 of margin on those axles and did not need to slide the 5th wheel to distribute the weight. Please correct me if I am wrong. Nevertheless, good lesson about sliding the 5th wheel.
@puddintoot
@puddintoot Жыл бұрын
Sliding the fifth wheel usually is for comfort when I do it. You can only be 66k gross weight with a single axle tractor pulling a long box. 80K when pulling doubles.

I just finished school at CNM-Central New Mexico Community College in Albuquerque on 8/2/2022. I got every endorsement a person can get. I hate drinking because I had a Family member killed by a drunk, and have never done a drug in my life. I have not got a ticket or been pulled over in over 20 years and never been in an accident. Every job or company I put a resume in with tells me sorry you need a year experience. Will ABF give a new guy a chance. I'm starting to think maybe I should go back to grocery store retail.

@thearmyvettrucker5410

We are an LTL (Less Than (truck)Load) carrier. We have turn bids (home daily) and laydown bids (sleep in hotel then head back home after rest). Extra board just fills in for bids or extra runs so it differs day to day.

Your funny. You don't want to talk numbers about how much you bring home but will talk about how much your insurance costs. At yellow as a linehaul driver I brought home 124k last year as an extra board driver. Took me 6 years to get there. Of course I have the same insurance as you but our pension sucks. I pretty much have to set aside my own retirement. That being said it's a decent job even though it's a shady company. I'm surprised your top guys aren't up aroused 130k plus.

All sounds good but I'm not about to work just because some guy who is above me doesn't want to. I don't believe in seniority I think it's just a way to be lazy That's just my opinion on top of that being a single father I have my daughter more than usual so I can't just pick up and leave at midnight because somebody didn't want to work that night. I've been driving way too long for that.

I worked extra board for them way back in the 90s ABF is under a collective bargaining agreement with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and those days were very speratic like Speratic gun fire the days were not steady I don’t know how it is some weeks we’re good and some were not and those Terminal managers & Dispatchers can be very Tolatarian and I’m trying to be nice they are not nice and the Union environment is by no means a debutant contillion union is good ???? Union is bad ???? It depends on you and what others do and how they work the Union saved my ass more then once but a union shop is really a tuff environment to survive in I am not completely against it but if you are on a super great job which is pretty rare then why do you need third party arbitration it closes that window of a home type work environment but if a company is already a shady environment to be in then you probably need a union contract And then why do guys like this man here get into these jobs there are people out here trying to earn a living I know he is too but he should do a double about face and double time back to the recruiting station and reenlist and be happier and let the rest of society earn a living he would be happier in his natural environment I have seen this before in people that come from that rigid structured uniformed enviroment and they just can’t fit in I had a girlfriend that was former Airmen and she said I can’t take this no more she re-enlisted got back with her own kind and last I heard she got married I was glad for her let us civilians do our own thing ooorahh !!

@thearmyvettrucker5410

After completing six tours, you earn 48 hours off. After 12 tours, you get 72 and then after 18 tours, you get 96 hours off. You can accumulate more tours and take more ATO, but it requires supervisor approval. You also get your 10 hour rest, in addition to however many hours of ATO you take off.
