Some time ago, a group of four, including a Cornell professor, was attacked with a knife in Jilin. We don't know the assailant's motive. There are good and bad people in every country. China is indeed relatively safer, and Chinese people generally have a certain respect for foreign faces, but this does not mean it is absolutely safe! Take care and enjoy China!

You saw so many young people at night because it was summer vacation recently. They can rest for two months after returning home from school, together with their friends, and come out to play at night. Indeed, in villages like some third tier cities, may be no foreigner came here all year around. Older people may not communicate with you, but younger people will be more open-minded, and they will feel that it is cool to chat with foreigners using the English knowledge they have learned in school, and at least they can go back and brag with their classmates.

It's not rural China. I love China, but that's not rural China. There are tall buildings all over the place, wide roads and not a single farm, land, crops, nothing. You are in a small(er) town. Again, not rural.

Upon seeing your comment, I curiously searched for the location "宜良花街" from the video. It's 1.5 kilometers away from the nearest village "段官village", and 2.7 km away from another village, "苏羊village". The distance to nearest county town is 2.5 km, and it is 47.5 km away from the second-tier city of Kunming. Based on my understanding of Yunnan province, these villages primarily engage in flower using greenhouse methods and rely on cement roads for transportation. I am not sure how to define "rural" in your country, but I don't think any difference in the village around there
