Between 1985 and 1993 Scania did sell trucks in the United States. During that period of time they sold 1,2 and 3 series trucks. They P, R, and T cabs were available. Scania only marketed the trucks in the north east due to the conditions being similar to Scandinavia. The companies that purchased them immediately fell in love with them. North American Moving and Watkins both used Scania trucks. Watkins had a V8 powered T cab with extended sleeper. Scania had established 17 dealerships in the United States.

America has a bare minimum mentality compared to the rest of the world. I saw things in the 90’s overseas that came to the States 10,15 years later. Innovation costs money and the controller of said money doesn’t want to spend it. Just look at Volvo trucks technology in America versus overseas. The technology we’re getting in the upcoming generation is older technology overseas.

This is pretty much the better way to show other american truckers the trucks they wish to be selling in the US over attending the conventions showing the trucks on paper and short films. Having a trucker go through his own positives and negatives after showcasing diffrent options of trucks. I was completely taken aback at the old 140, what an amazing job they've done on the restoration. 👍 1970's nostalgia at its best. It was brought into service just a year before I started my apprenticeship with British Road Services (BRS Worcester UK) We didn't have any 140's running out of our depot, 110's & 111's were what we had, but other depots had the140's, and I can proudly say I have had the pleasure of working on a few of them when they came in for repairs. It's great to see an American with such passion for Scania, nice one mate, keep the fantastic videos coming, I think many of us appreciate them. I hope your throat is feeling better, reminds me of myself when I worked for RyderTruck Rental, back in the 80's in Nova Scotia & northern BC Canada, that cold dry air, doesn't do the throat any good if you're not used to the sub-zero temperatures.

​@Henry-ij3ks not so much the government, but the market in general. Once length restrictions were lifted, the cabover style of truck died. Freightliner and Kenworth held on for a bit but even they gave up in the early 2000's . But more and more drivers are starting to warm up to the cabover design again. Scania, Volvo etc have made great strides in comfort , safety and drivability. The rough ride and engine hump or "doghouse" as it's known were two leading factors. Again , Freightliner, International and Kenworth employed flat floor designs , but it was too little too late.

Hey Bruce, see if you can get to the netherlands a city called Zwolle SCANIA have a.huge plant there were they build some 180 trucks per day! All sizes and variations on the same assemblyline Very very cool to get a factory tour there! And ofcourse close to Sweden. A plain ticket costs less than a 100 euro

Our American truck manufacturing facilities use nothing but the latest cutting-edge technology! You guy's know that it was America that invented the assembly line. 🇺🇸 I must have missed the part where Bruce visited Scania's foundry, where they manufacture their own engine components. 🤷‍♂️ I don't know of ANY automobile manufacturer that builds all of the components for their product in-house. They all use outside vendors and basically assemble all of the components into a finished product.

Bruce, i think the reason why many costumer prefer the 660 is because they're getting the advantage from the new Opticruise Gearbox (G33CM). You can specify the trucks with much taller rear diff ratio and still have a good startability performance. You'll have 2 cruising gears with the new scania gearbox. With 770, you can't get the new gearbox, 770 have traditional scania opticruise gearbox that has been updated to handle the extra torque.

@@hnorrstrom Check out some psychrometric charts and you'll see that even 100% RH "moist air" around 0 °C will dry to 25% RH when heated to around 20 °C you typically have indoors during the Winter. This is because cool air saturates much more easy with the same amount of water molecules in the air. And outdoor air cannot be more humid than 100% RH because water would simply condensate instead of getting more humid. And most people could consider 25% RH pretty dry indeed.

You just cant target a crowd that has their mind set on a different style. You show them off at conventions and hope for the best. But if i like steak, then im gonna be first looking at steaks and not at the salads in a resturants menu.

I said on the shortie clip that the classic truck is an LB141 not an LB140. The '1' series came out in 1974, the headlights are in the cab not the bumper and the dash is '1' series. The '0' series was all grey interior and had fixed bunks and the '1' series was brown interior. But a beautifully restored example. My first truck as an owner driver was an LB110 Super and I was lucky enough to go on to own 111, 141 and 113 Scanias amongst other makes (Ford Transcontinental, MAN and Volvo FH). Great times and made some terrific friends. My last job Before retiring was as a Scania Master Technician ... Full circle!

Bruce must felt like home in the 140! Looked like a new american one... ;D Jokes aside, I love the objective way of Bruce to look at these. And for sure the biggest reason Scania is willing to do all these walk a rounds and allow filming in factory areas that are rarely filmed in, is the free advertise directly pointed at NA, what all your truckers are missing out. They saw the pure awe and enthusiasm that Bruce have towards Scanias. Perfect channel to sneak in on US drivers and company owners. But I love the content as I never visited any of Scania factories except Södertälje facilities back in 1988 when the 3-series was introduced. Can't remember much of it as I was 10 at the time.

Great people at Scania for letting you see all these cool things, definitively liked the old 140. Years ago in 2003 or 2004 I was on holiday in Sweden and stayed in a cabin at a small holiday park at Älvkarleby near Gävle, two nice gentlemen in the cabin next to ours invited us for a drink, one of these gentlemen did also work for R&D of Scania, but I don't remember his name anymore.

I mean it's a country that still uses inches and Fahrenheit for Christ-sakes. Inches = the U.S., Liberia and Myanmar. what's crazy is, that ALL those trucks are shipped all over the world and I'm not just talking about specialty trucks, I mean all the trucks for any applications, shipped ALL OVER but North America.. what the hell does that really tell you about where we live?!?!?! @@Xv1p3rCr0 @gfimadcat the main factor is, that the EU has different standards for vehicle manufacturers than the USA and Canada. To import a vehicle who was built for the European market, generally speaking, it is illegal to import it to North America. That being said, Volvos are manufactured in the USA for the NA market with NA standards and regulations in mind. Scania IS NOT manufacturing any vehicle according to the NA standards, which is most likely why we cant get them here! I bet you can order one to the NA standards, but if you consider that they would have to change the whole assembly line or just custom build one truck to US regulations, I think you can imagine what cost would be involved to do that, I guess it would make simply no sense from a business standpoint, not for the purchaser nor for Scania. Just my thought process... I live in Canada, I can import ANY European manufactured vehicle in different ways: I can bring the vehicle into the country, when I can promise and proof that the vehicle will leave the country again at some point in time, ea. Travel, in that case, they most likely put a time limit on that paper to "force" you, to "export" the vehicle after that particular time period, same as a mechanic wont have to import tools to perform mechanic work in the USA or vice versa, US mechanic coming to Canada to fix a machine of some sort and bring back the tools to the states again, after the job is done. The Second way to import a vehicle from EU to NA (Canada) is when the vehicle is older than 15 years! We used to call this the "Old-timer" rule... I can Import ANY US manufactured vehicle to the EU after it's considered and Old Timer.. it goes both ways.. I have to say, that I'm not familiar with the US import rules about the age limit and what would be considered "Old Timer", again, I live in Canada... About the lobbying.. I personally think lobbying is not the right word here.. manufacturing products in your own country isn't a bad thing at all, it keeps jobs in the country and creates wealth to the general public, yet it is dangerous to prevent manufactures from enhancing their products as it doesn't matter how good or bad the product is.. Example, I just seen the new 2024 Peterbilt and still comes with drum brakes on the rear axels, which is stunning to me that someone even would considering buying it that way! I was born and raised in Switzerland, started trucking over there when I was 20 and I was using the last trucks built with drums.. meaning roughly 30 years ago, they started to fade out drum breaks, yet north America still comes up with drum breaks in 2024... mind boggling and actually very very backwards. Thats a treat to NA manufacturers, they would have to get their crap together to even be able to sell a Truck if they cant keep up with the competition, which would be a good thing to move a country forward and evolving!!

​@@PipHunter-kc2ipThe way the last ones looked, it wasn't too much of a heartache. Not a big fan of the Vlastuins custom either. They're just too clumsy and bulky. The 140 to 143 on the other hand, that's a completely different story. Great looking trucks. Older ones too naturally. If they want to come up with a new nose design again, it has to be narrower. Like the competition. VNLs always had great lines for a modern truck.

VW group bought them up in recent years. From what I can tell, Scania was holding out the longest, my guess is they needed to know that VW won't make them cheap out on the quality of the trucks.

@@torpedu I can spot from a distance lots of straight out VW group originated parts in the Scania. And 'recent years' close to VW means that Scania is now in the third decade close ties to VW. And Scania being a Traton (aka VW group) subsidiary means they potentially have close ties not only to MAN but also to the rest of the group including VW trucks division and Navistar.

They already made MAN and Scania work together on newer engines and who knows if Scania V8 will survive that. You should go to IAA TRANSPORTATION show. It will take place from September 17 to September 22, 2024, in Hannover,Germany. I believe Scania will also introduce a new front design there but also many other truck brands will be there too.

You should visit the Scania factory in Oskarshamn. They produce Scanias cabs. The bodyshop has 278 robots, it’s like perfectly conducted a symphony of machines.
