how sherpa rescue others, putting their own life in danger.

Even as a child, I always thought it was weird that adventurers get the worldwide fame and praise for being guided up to the summit of the Everest once by a team of Sherpas, who not only summit the Everest on the regular but are also in charge of keeping them safe and alive, hauling all their stuff, and laying down the ropes AHEAD of them so they can arrive later and do their “omg I’ve done it” moment. I’ve always considered the Sherpa people as the only heroes of Everest, and they deserve so much more respect. The adventurers are there only by their grace.
@RJCasablancas3 жыл бұрын
Agree, but not the only ones. There are some people who go up there by themselves, some other experienced people who are not necessarily sherpas, all my respect for them.
@zagrizena3 жыл бұрын
Was thinking something like that the other day, but after watching a documentary on Everest expeditions and the work of Sherpas I realised, there is basically no other option on Everest. There is so many people and so many expeditions and people vary so much in high altitude climbing experience that having a well established system with setting up the ropes and camps in advance etc is the only way to limit the loss of life up there. And even after that, sometimes tragedies occur due to sheer numbers. I have no delusions about my ability to climb Everest, but even if I had the endurance, the climbing experience and the strength, I wouldn't go past base camp because I know I will never have enough high altitude experience even hypothetically, to go up safely and I'm not keen on putting others at risk for my shot at adventure. If I want an adventure it's up to me, but I'm not putting others in danger.

Although Sherpas rock's, this was not the case with the Everest's first climb (and most other himalayans mountains). The guides really helped and were absolutely fundamental for the climb (on everest, the first climb was a pair of a new zealand and a nepalese - a sherpa, but not simply a guide). That being said, it's injust both to fail to recognize nepalese guides as the real heros, but also to call hero someone that climbs a mountain just by follow ropes and oxygens caches set by others.

But the sherpas need to cut them out. Think about all the documentaries ive seen the guides claim the sherpas are there friends! Now if my so called friend offered me 2 -4 k for carrying there gear, fixing ropes saving the idiots that shouldnt be there, cookin there food, basically doing everything but carrying them up the mt, id call that a shitty friend! Actually id tell em to kick rocks, how bout ill do it but next year we switch! See these guides they con, manipulate, an straight up use the sherpas for there benefits! This is how they earn their living..rich foreigners pay good money for sherpas to drag them up the mountain..some of these foreigners have little or no alpine experience ..A couple of the rescuers are foreign guides by the sounds of them and one is English by the sounds of his swearing. ..Again the foreign guides are professional mountaineers who are paid by the climbing tourists to guide them on the mountain..part of that process is what you see here ..if everyone who attempted Everest was a highly skilled and experienced alpinist then most of the Nepalese sherpas and foreign guides who you see working so hard to stop this lady from falling into the crevace and then recover her to safety wouldn't have jobs....That being said she's really frightened and looks clumsy and I'd be quite surprised if she's actually experienced with a set of crampons ..maybe some sort of course with qualifications (similar to that required for scuba diving)would help matters somewhat... WOW man, Those Sherpa's are the chit. And they do it like its a walk in the park. All this joker said was. "Thank you Thank you Thank you, no handshake or nothing, Man I would've been all over them crying and hugging them. They prob would've ran when they saw me coming bcuz I would hug them every time I looked at them... Not to mention the enormous tip I would have given them .lol

without sherpas no climbers who reached the peak of everest.

Not exactly true. There were expeditions who reached the top without sherpas. But those were the very best climbers and not just some tourists.

@@Xth3Z Wrong, you like to claim credit everything for yourselves eh?
@Xth3Z5 жыл бұрын
@@elaminmochichi7767 Maybe you should study some history before you make a fool out of yourself. In 1978 Peter Habeler and Reinhold Messner climbed Everest alone and without artificial oxygen. Some time later Messner climbed Everest all by himself. And those are just two examples.

Bright new gear doesn't make a climber. Get him back up to nearly the edge of the crevasse and then require his credit card number.

Dear all Nepali people are poor but loyal and rich inside. Some comments reads Sherpa get good pay it’s not only the pay we do it for, do it because he or she is a friend we treat everyone’s this way. For friends Nepali people are ready and willing to give their life. Pay, Money we receive is barely enough for basic food, roof over head and education for kids sometimes not even so. Still we are happy and our heartfelt thanks for all clients. Comment written by me retired Gurkha from footsteps of Himalaya.

How strange ... in the films about Everest I always see that a single man, with one hand, on the edge of a cliff grabs another who is hanging with all his equipment on a thin rope, and lifts it with minimal effort and saves his life.

@@thepessimisticoptimist9375 yea but most likely it is because what else a rich guy wants to climb if not the highest mountain just to say "I achieved this too". However there must be other mountains in Nepal that starts with icefalls

Everest expeditions without Sherpas are ABSOLUTELY impossible, but they never get the credit they deserve!!! THEY are the critical factor! And the same applies for all the others involved in logistics (porters, cooks, medics, pilots, etc), which in another way are also essential in all the effort. It would be interesting to know how much they are paid to do such dangerous and indispensable job, is it a fair share of the earnings? And the Nepali Government? how does it spends the money collected in permits and the like? Does it benefit the local communities? perhaps in providing clean water, education or medical facilities? That is a report I would want to see! Greetings from wild, wet, windy and wonderful Western Patagonia, Chile

I’ve been on glaciated peaks approx 3500ft less alt than they are here and I’ve been in crevasses. Gonna state the obvious: why are these cats working to rescue on the edge of the crevasse NOT ROPED IN?!?! I understand they’re the naturals on the Himalayan mountains…but this isn’t wise
