1st of all, I feel like even if they would want to speak up, they can't. They're still in active duty. those other idols who spoke up, was able to speak about their experience AFTER their service, not during. And them refusing to do what was ordered to them would be considered as insubordination and can be used for punishment. So there's really nothing that they can do but to just follow orders. Regarding Yoongi, he's not in active duty because of his shoulder injury. So it's a lot harder to take his pictures. Unlike when and if you're in active duty, the government is allowed to take pictures of you in guise of showing those pictures to "update the family".

I served in the military (not South Korea). I was drafted years ago. The miliary is not a nice place you want to spend more time in than necessary. It all depends in which military you serve but for the most part it is not an enjoyable time. Some people stay longer because the military can offer you career opportunities and in some regard "unique" experiences. A friend of mine volunteered in Afghanistan for 3 months. a few things are kind of important to mention: there is no western military that misstreats their draftees en mass. That would be very problematic if they did that. The job of the military is to create soldiers not punching you in the face the moment that you arrive. If every man came home misstreated the military would have a publicity problem. I was not misstreated in the military nor have I noticed any misstreatment. In general it is important to disguish between draftees and voluntary enlisted men. They are usually treated differently because they have a different type of "contract". BTS are draftees so they won't see the hardest part of the military. BTS certainly won't get any type of misstreatment since people would analyse every bruise they have. The south korean army certainly doesn't want negative publicity. The fact that the army uses BTS for "propaganda" is something you should be familiar with if you follow Kpop. Do you believe that every product, every song, every service they promote is something they wholeheartly enjoy? Fuck no. The pop industry promotes everything that is popular or makes money. Idols don't show their faces for products because they necessarily enjoy them. The Military is doing the same. It is not as big of a deal than you might think. Kind of fascinating how people all of a sudden start calling something "propaganda" as soon as the military does it.

I don't think it's the military using them, it's the media pushing for anything they can find concerning BTS. Remember, they haven't been interacting with many people other than those in the entertainment industry for the last 10 plus years, they now have a chance to feel more normal, like every other Korean. They do talk to each other on the phone, so they don't feel alone and can reach out to the other members when needed. They will come out of the military more mature and ready to take on the rest of their lives, as they will have had time to reflect on what they really want to do.

“Without their consent” I hate to say this but the second they enlisted they became property of of the South Korean military. BTS don’t have to consent to having their photos posted. But as for everything within the first minute… official photos, leaked photos, promotion announcements come with every celeb enlistment. Kboo and allkpop even talk about other groups and members achieving things so it isn’t just things known in fan communities.
@MyKuromi_0710 ай бұрын
But they HAD to enlist. It's not like they just decided to join the army just for fun. Also your excuse that they “don't have to consent to anything since they're in the military” does not make this situation any better. You're saying this as if they had a choice not to enlist other than buying their way through, which is something bts is against ever since day one. They couldn't just say “no i don't want to” or smth... It's not like they were fine with all of that, and just happily jumped in. If they didn't have to enlist, they'd still be active as a group. Hell, they literally said multiple times that they can't wait to be back together. Again “now that they're in the military, they don't have to consent to anything” is NOT an excuse. It just makes it worse tbh. Like why would you need to take pictures of them, post their meals, make military merch, etc? And the fact that they make a specific rule just so that the military is ALLOWED to make money and profit from soldiers is just worrying

It’s quite strange cause the public are so fast on jumping on the preferential treatment for idols that the ministry often makes statements that they aren’t. But now with all these events happening you would think the public would be shaming them into hiding again.
@KTAdams2610 ай бұрын
The entire debate about BTS being exempt is a moot point anyway as Suga stated he and the members were going to enlist after their world tour (BTS Monuments on Disney+), but the last leg of that tour was cancelled because of the pandemic and all of their plans had to be halted. Another point is that the media plays a huge part in this as well. The spectacle of seeing an idol go off to the military is huge in ratings and media companies have to reshape idol groups while a member is serving. Most of this blame can be placed on former Super Junior member Kangin. SM hurried him off to the military in 2010 to distract the public from his DUI, as if to say you can't continue to persecute him while he's in the army, also, buy this new album with the other members.

My country also has mandatory military service and people complain about it. Many also just accept it as something they have to do. Without a doubt, they have shared and created precious memories and friends from military. But I feel it’s more of making the best of your situation and gain what you can from it. If enlistment is optional, most men wouldn’t have enlisted anyway. So I’m sure same applies to Korean men (their enlistment seems much tougher than my country’s) and BTS too. They just make the best of it. I feel Namjoon could have been asked to give the speech and he because he agreed, he had “volunteered”. Because of BTS’s influence of course he has to say something politically correct, and positive mainly to encourage the soldiers. I’m guilty as charged for indulging in all these news, but how their speech, photos and info keep getting leaked is sus af.

"FORCED TO SERVE" I dont believe that for a moment, any BTS member has been "FORCED" to do anything! The FACT is N.Korea pose a significant threat to the people of S.Korea and it would be remiss of the S.Korean Government not to ensure their people were capable of defending themselves, their families, neighbours and Country. S.Korea knows only too well the consequences of occupation! My own son served 10 years in the British Army from the age of 16 years, and he was also a member of the Army Cadets for two years prior. He made this choice himself even knowing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan were ongoing at the time and that once he turned 18, he would be deployed. There is no greater honour than serving your Country, and being able to protect your people!! LEAVE BTS ALONE!!!

It shouldn’t be forgotten that BTS next to other idols has a special place in South Korea. They’re politically above being normal IDOLS. I don’t want to remind everyone about their numerous political actions which most likely wasn’t even their own will but to further SK‘s propaganda and relationship with other countries especially USA. So it was obvious that SK would use every single bit of BTS to get their military going and let’s see, maybe they can even do something against the harsh treatment of regular citizen. It all depends on them if they will speak out openly about their time on the military when they’re back, of course this also comes with great mental stress. Let’s just hope they come back safely without a war starting in the middle of their enlistment.

I will start this comment by stating that I am not an army but a fan of Lee Taemin and I follow the situation in south korea's army very closely, it is pretty clear from many testimonials from people who have been enrolled in the army that the experience is highly traumatic, therefore I think BTS (whether they are doing it out of their own will or being forced to do it) promoting it as if it were paradise is dishonest, unfair and counterintuitive, however I also think that because BTS is being used by the country, they probably aren't going through the same things others have had to go through and I feel happy for them because of that, however this whole situation is very messed up and I don't think the members deserve praise for their actions, though I don't think they should be judged either for the only real culprit here is the government of South Korea, and it's not even totally their fault either for a powerful army might be the country's only form of survival against a powerful enemy (militarily speaking) like is North Korea, my best wishes for the BTS members and for everyone who is currently enrolled in the military and I hope the South Korean government will evolve to have a better management of the people who are willing to make such a sacrifice for their country.

At this point, the SK Korean government should just abolish the exception system ( it isn't even a system, because there is no definite criterions to get exempted, at least, to my knowledge). The SK Korean government NEVER had the intentions of letting them get an exception. They flip flopped too much on what they said, and their actions never matched their words. It is true that BTS always said they would serve. BUT, they never had a choice BUT to serve. It is the law. Just imagine if they said they didn't want to serve... Imagine they amount of HATE they would have gotten for such a statement. south Korean and their government would have tried to get them canceled. K netizens are really unforgiving. They have the mental and physical capabilities to have those titles (elite trainee, soldier), but I do not know if they got them because they really did good or because some higher up decided it was good for the military to have them in those position. Also, everything they say while in the military should be taken with a grain of salt. while serving, they are the literal B//%$%$ of the military. If they are ordered to jump, they have too. if they are ordered to talk nicely about the military, they have too.

What’s sad is that Yoongi released a verse in a non-distributed song a long time ago about how the draft is basically a possible death sentence in the name of civic duty for young Korean men, because at any moment, things could turn bad. Yes, SK military members usually get by fine, but a draft will always be the forced participation in something that could turn violent at any moment. His verse was to all men, not just himself, and he never fought against serving even if he was critical of the draft because he knew he had to, but to use any of the members as propaganda is vile. I know they probably will be fine as far as harassment and as far as possible war. The issue isn’t the risk. It’s the implication. It’s the deception to the citizens that the draft is a wonderful thing. One last interesting thing: I see all the posts about BTS’s success, but not much about him, and Yoongi actually is now a social worker under the military. It could be due to his medical condition, as he has sustained many injuries and chronic health issues over the years. I feel given his mental health issues, it’s probably the best route for him.
