Tears of the Kingdom somehow gave me an excuse to talk about Revali yet again, as it both honored the legacy he left behind while also providing an answer to a question that Breath of the Wild left unanswered. Welcome back! Glad to see Revali’s grip on you hasn’t lessened even a bit! Once Revali gets ahold of you, there is no escaping him. I like that Revali has no connections with the Sages at all. I like to imagine that through his sheer tenacity he completely outshined whoever was the descendant of the Rito Sage during his lifetime. I also loved the little musical motifs of Revali being included in the whole Wind Temple sequence as well.

the running theory i've had since my first playthrough is that the generational power of the Rito isn't tied to bloodline at all, it's tied to respect from the rest of the tribe, as Revali was one of, if not outright THE most respected Rito in living memory, and Tulin was functionally granted that power from Revali's aknowledgement (admittedly from AOC but still) that and Revali needed specifically an updraft to make ideal use of his flight capabilities, whereas Tulin only needed horizontal acceleration and could carry that into verticality as needed

I think Revali's gale is much stronger than anything we see Tulin do. So I think Revali actually became stronger than a sage by pure effort.

I love these silly bird people. Zelda characters and their motives can feel sort of larger than life sometimes, but Revali felt like an exception to that. He really grabbed me in the first game, i liked how he stood out among the other champions, he had something to prove and his motives for doing the things he did felt more… tangible to me than the others. It was almost like he jumped from a completely different game. I don’t even know how to describe it, I just think he’s neat.

8:30 "as a result of an amplifier being given to him as a result of overcoming the Sheikah trials" But the cutscene where Zelda recruits him to pilot Vah Medoh takes place *before* he would've undergone those trials, and we see him actually pull off Revali's Gale in that scene, meaning that he had *already* developed it without the help of Vah Medoh orbs or any outside amplifier. So IMO he really did develop this move on his own, with no outside help (other than the baseline ability to control wind that apparently ALL Rito are born with) Also in the cutscene we get after completing the Wind Temple, the Rito sage/Sage of Wind is using the Great Eagle Bow (as all the other sages are using the other Champions' weapons, which is...kinda weird since they're still referred to in TotK as the Champions' weapons, not the Sages' weapons). It could just be because the devs didn't feel like making new weapons for the Sages, or it could be a retcon like they did with the Goron blacksmiths now using the Boulder Breaker as a test for future blacksmiths, or how the Scimitar of the Seven and Daybreaker/Lightscale Trident are now crafted especially for the Gerudo chief/Sidon, but the Great Eagle Bow being used by an ancient sage is really frikkin' weird because it is literally a self-portrait of Revali and was probably made specially *for* him when he broke all the archery records (it's the same blue as he is, has white accents like he does, has three points at each end like the three-split feather crown he has, and it even has a gold "beak" and red grip which imitates his red breastplate. Hell it even imitates the white scarf that he wore before he got the Champions' blues)

I’d like to point out that in tears of the kingdom, when you get Revali’s bow, it doesn’t have that signature blue ribbon. The bow Tulin gets from Teba does have it. But when Teba makes one for Link, it doesn’t.

Revali's personality type reminds me of research done on internalized homophobia. When overachieving gay men do that out of spite for their own sexuality, trying to prove themselves to completely unrealistic standards.

That's actually a really interesting observation! It's always been a head-canon of mine that Revali is either Bi or Gay, but I can never decide which one, and this reinforced my belief!
