How Texas Unleashed an Immigration Firestorm

The border and migration have become top issues of the 2024 US presidential election, with a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll finding immigration second only to the economy on voters’ minds. It’s in large part due to a political gamble by Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
In April 2022, the Republican decided federal authorities weren’t doing enough about increased border apprehensions. So he directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to charter buses to take people who entered the US illegally to northern cities, or as he calls them, “sanctuary cities.”
His tactics in part led to frenzied talks among Congressional lawmakers in late 2023, ultimately yielding a bipartisan deal. But the bill swiftly collapsed under pressure from Donald Trump, who said he didn’t want to hand a victory to President Joe Biden. We visited Eagle Pass, Texas, to see the situation first hand and examine how the issue might play into the 2024 presidential election.

The bill was weak, unnecessary, and primarily funding for israel and ukraine. If the Biden admin wanted to secure the border, they didn't even need a bill to do it as demonstrated by Trump's admin. You bought a lie, and the bill in itself was extorsion: "give money for foreign conflicts, or you get no 'border security'". Border security they could have provided at any time, but waited until an election year to pretend they want to do something. If it passed, they get money to send overseas and make a victory lap about how they "secured the border" when they'll likely continue to not enforce immigration laws. If it didn't pass, they could blame the opposition, and people like you would fall for it. A hint for you buddy: Just because a bill is titled something doesn't mean it will do that, nor is that all it will do, nor is any politician signing on to it telling you the whole truth of what it will do

In the last year of Trump there were only 400,000 people coming in, last year there were 3 million. And then you have all these 'sanctuary cities' around the country

That does NOTHING to decrease the numbers of illegals entering. It only allows for more. This is why the Republicans rejected the bill. They also rejected it because the Democrats Hijacked it by adding Ukraine funding which had more funding than for the actual border. People need to Read the details in the bill and not listen to talking points.
