Good Vid and a great win for my bolts! I agree with a lot of your points. Although with the aspect of throwing passes short of the sticks, I have to disagree and nowhere better to look than both of our rivals in KC. NORTIOUS for throwing behind the sticks and giving players the chance for yards after catch (YAC) rather than forcing passing windows that maybe don’t exist or next to impossible to get it there. As a bronco’s hater I have to admit this shows signs of maturity knowing what he can and cannot do physically/mentally) and good football IQ as he does have enough arm strength to stretch the field but playing smart sound football late in games and asking your guys to make plays in space is what has been a HUGE part in todays game and KC does that the best. Win the TO battle and keep movin the chains. AFC BEST looks like it can be here to stay if the raiders can ever figure it out LOL! 🧹🌩

So the issues with the passing game- Do we think this this most likely to do with Bo being gun-shy (Probably because of the picks), the play calls, or was it just good coverage by the chargers and the checkdown/ screen was the best option for Bo?
@BreakdownBillCody8 күн бұрын
IMO, Denver became too predictable and LA was able to drop 7 in coverage. Of cours, the antidote to that is the run the ball. We went away from the power run game in the second half. That run game opens up all kinds of options

@ Ah yes of course. Dropping 7 meant the coverage was too good, especially for a rookie QB. So why wouldn’t we continue the power from the run game from the first into the second half, and instead play into their hand by throwing it? It’s all up to Payton i geuss

I suspect it's a passing concept roman uses that bunched broncos defenders on the opposite side of where the ball was thrown. If the west coast offense looks to spread defenders to make them try to defend the whole field, Roman's style is to create overloads. Usually it is to create a situation where a defender has to cover two routes at the same time. That's why some people think it's a bad passing scheme, the route spacing of receivers is too small, sometimes there's only 2 passing options. Even on these highlights, they're running mesh concept way too many times. At least they did something unexpected in the Davis TD, they ran the familiar mesh and then hit them in the mouth with a new wrinkle, the go instead of the short comeback route.

Interesting. Love that you're mocking Harbaugh & his enthusiasm...how's that 0-2 taste? You guys did well, but Nix had a sub 4.0 ADOT, that worked when the Bolts subbed in Taylor for the injured May, but once Minter moved Derwin back into the box used their 6th safety, rather than Taylor, AND started playing Tart (the guy who abused Meinerz) in combination with Ford, the Broncos run game stalled (roughly 2.3 YPC in the 2nd half). You know the chargers offensive line had its moments , Benito didn’t have the best game. Even tho he makes a tackle on Herbert at the one he still almost gets run over. The second half the Chargers went to something different that left Denver only underneath stuff and that was the real difference because Denver’s ends were getting upfield in the first half but it was the guards who gave up sacks then in the second half they were getting stone walled in a bunch of reps . They were getting pushed into the guards where Slayter and Alt were able to assist the guards & in a lot of reps we see Alt managing two defenders at one point. Slayter pretty won his matchup all day but a few reps against Benito Alt alo had some solid moments but he didn’t have the success Slayter did. And the biggest take away is Herbert did what we had seen from him before and that’s takeover a game. He’s done this before but in seasons prior the defense was coached to fail and hence Staley built a team to win on paper but lose on the grass. Made no sense at all. To put it into perspective how bad the Chargers were about Herbert, Anthony Lynn was gonna keep him on the bench in favor of Tyrod Taylor. And don’t get me wrong the players in the NFL love Taylor and he gets a lot of respect but he’s always making way for the next guy. Anyhow yeah Herbert out plays the Denver defense in the second half , Nix does next to nothing but doesn’t turn it over and turn into a game manager almost like the play calling went into limp mode. This shows a lack of adjustments being made by Denver’s coaching staff. This is an area of concern for Denver who’s sitting with similar issues as the Chargers but with a much better roster especially on offense. That’s not a good look for Denver and a second half collapse isn’t good ever going into the playoffs where they may see better teams. But Denver reminds me of other Charger teams where they ply only up to what’s in front of them instead of blowing teams out. This was clearly an old Chargers team and staff in Broncos uniforms because they sure did Charger it up in the second half. Oh well gg.

I think you're too hard on yourselves - you didn't give the Chargers the win, they punched it out of the body of a young Bronco's team. (Chargers are really young too, 3rd youngest? But still.) Harbaugh outcoached Payton this year, Herbert outplayed Nix, it's the little things that magnify and raise the scores up high, but the differences aren't huge. Chargers defense is solid. They turned it on in the second half and Payton couldn't figure out the code. There was a play you showed, a check down at 3rd and 13. Chargers knew you needed to throw it - it's that time of the game, and Chargers are horrific to pass against when they know you aren't running it. The check down is all you're getting at that point. That said, great game. Bronco's threw punches for a half, Chargers threw punches for a half. Chargers just landed a few more this time around. AFC West is looking like it's a forge for the sharpest group of teams in the AFC. If the Chief's are going to continue being great, they're going to have to work for it.

The Chargers won the game because they made adjustments to the run game and shut it down. They moved two big DTs inside on first down and pulled James out of the high safety and put him back in the box. The Broncos were gaining 6YPC before this adjustment and less than 3 YPC after the adjustment. They abandoned the run game because it got shut down. @BreakdownBillCody9 күн бұрын
You’re right. We should have stuck with the run. We got predictable. Coach Payton needs to write RUN IT larger on the call sheet. We might beat someone like Pittsburgh. Or even KC. Although we’re about to find out if KC does their playoff Hulk act again.

Chargers fan here. I like your vid. It’s to the point, no wasted words. Subbed. Our Ladd McConkey does look small. He’s 6 ft & 185, so a little thin. But he wears that big helmet, which makes him look like he has a child’s proportions. But smart and efficient for a rookie.

@@BreakdownBillCodyChargers made adjustments at half since everything worked for the Broncos first half not many adjustments were made for them. So both offensively and defensively adjustments for the Chargers were made. The Chargers have a habit of losing games also by dominating first half and blowing the second half by not being able to make adjustments in game. Ultimately that’s how the Broncos lost, lack of adjustments and penalties.

@@BreakdownBillCody Maybe, but not everyone _perceives_ what they see the same way, & this throwing short of the 1st-down marker has been consistent all year. You mentioned how good Nix is when he rolls out. Notice how he still moves away from clean pockets? I think that the whole reason he developed this short-pass accuracy was distrust of o-lines. That's a problem he will have to get over for continued success. I only wish you covered more than just the Broncos. Justin Fields is my current "I can't believe the social media memes about this guy" project & the fact that all his NFL play-callers have done worse & been fired or severely demoted without him should say something, along with that 31 ppg streak the Bears went on *after Fields called out the play-calling!* How did that get ignored then dismissed? Can you imagine any other team's QB calling out their own coaches & no one batting an eye? Let alone that team then changing their plays for 4 weeks, or 'long enough for the story to blow over,' nearly double their offensive production *then voluntarily return to producing fewer points* & it getting ignored? But everyone I've seen try to explain what's wrong with Fields refuses to look at any play-calling. It's like the entire fan base, analysts included Have Determined "we shall never speak of this again" for some reason.

@@BreakdownBillCody You're the only one who can assess if it's a valuable use of your time. Right now I'd suggest looking into what you thought you saw, the Chargers making a lot of yards over the middle. "Maybe they saw something?" Harbaugh? Likely. Greg Roman on the other hand is the guy who kept a perennial MVP candidate producing half as well for 3 full years. As an aside, after the game Payton made some sort of comment about it being hard to prepare for this game on a short week. Wasn't this flexed? So didn't they need his approval to put it on Thursday? Either way, they seemed incapable of making in-game changes & as you pointed out, there were many instances where both the o-line & defenders looked sluggish making plays without the best effort. There might be something there, but it's probably a one-off that affected only this game. Still, it's niggling at the back of my mind.

You guys were running the ball really well in the first half. Sean Peyton was feeling himself too much and didn’t run the ball in the 2nd half. That definitely would have managed the 2nd half better for you guys running the ball

Chargers fan but I have been watching our division this year just going ruh roh. The AFC WEST is looking like a monster if the trajectory stays on track. I mean if the Raiders somehow figure crap out I'll lose it. We have 3 coaches that are amazing and the QBs are all lining up. looking forward to the next several seasons of slugfests.

LOL - you have no clue. When they caught passes short of the line to gain. The Chargers Def was to LET them catch it and make the stop, just don't let them go over your head. So, yeah, those passes they GAVE YOU with their 2nd an d3rd string DBs were really great. LOL Maybe learn the game and THEN make videos. He passes on 3rd down short of the Line to gain hoping the man breaks a tackle here or there and gets the yardage. It's not just; "We need 12 yards, lets throw for 12 yards." - Sometimes you through for 4 yard and run for 8 more yards. IT worked a time or two. The chargers short-handed on DBs played safe in letting you catch underneath and then all the pressure was on making the tackle. Football 101 and you said it, "I don't know what they were doing..."

It turned out to be a great defensive strategy, obviously. My point is that Denver can’t keep doing the same thing expecting different results. Also can’t keep putting themselves in 3rd and long
