The shotgun was nonexistent when Coach Landry employed it, it was simply a gadget back then. Now every team employs it. Coach Landry had his team in the playoffs so many times with inferior talent in the secondary. His scheme was so good Madden to this day has no playbook for it. I have always hated the "America's Team" label. For me, the most meaningful years as a Cowboys fan were the probably the first 10 years, from 1966-1975. I became a fan because they were so unique. In fact, the Cowboys were the MOST UNIQUE team I had ever seen with their multiple formations, and their uniforms were SHARP. When they lost "The Ice Bowl" to Green Bay 21-17 I was really depressed. It would get much worse in 1968 & 1969 when the Browns eliminated them in the NFL Eastern Conference Championship 31-20 & 38-14. The ending to the 1969 season was the worst as they followed that up by being clobbered by the Rams 31-0 in the ill-fated Play Off Bowl. I was the only Cowboys fan in the high school I attended and man did I get an earful. They sure as hell weren't "America's Team" back then. They were laughed at and called big game losers. It even continued after they mauled Miami 24-3 in Super Bowl VI after which they were still criticized. "Miami would get another chance. Dallas had needed SIX." said John Facenda. "Hey Schminke, the Cowboys proved they could beat an expansion team!" Then that damned "America's Team" label came along and all of a sudden millions seemed to hop on the band wagon. The team seemed to become commercialized(?). Roger Staubach's rookie year was 1969 as was Calvin Hill's, so they had excellent role models back then as well. They already had Bob Lilly, "Mr. Cowboy" and Walt Garrison who really WAS a cowboy. I'll close with this: Jerry Jones wrecked the Cowboys when he fired Jimmy Johnson. The only place for his bust in the Hall Of Fame is the men's room. This would make a great engravement: "Jerry Jones is only owner in NFL history to fire the head coach after he had just led the team to 2 straight Super Bowl titles. In the process he took a rapidly-developing dynasty and flushed it down the toilet." Don't call A T & T Stadium "Jerry World". Call it "Jonestown".

3 Teams back in the NFLs glory games possibly could have taken that moniker. 1. Baltimore Colts. They were as successful as anyone back then. Their lifeline 1958 - 1977 was as good a run as any team, and no doubt they were a "National" team who played in the old Coastal Division. They played the Rams and 49ers out west and helped the pooularity of the game because the Colts has HOFers spirnkled all over their roster, including John Unitas. The best QB of his day. Pittsburgh Steelers, had a "National" following, but their run is caught in the Cowboys wake, even though the won more Super Bowls than Dallas. Miami Dolphins. Another team growing up in the 70's. 32 -2 stretch, catapulted their popularity, but it come just a little short of Dallas, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore. When you call out the Dallas bandwagon because a Dallas bandwagon is not a fan let’s get this straight. Most of these bandwagons live somewhere with a football team that wasn’t doing too good in the 70s or 90s and they jumped on the bandwagon and they stayed on. There are three different types of Banwagons you have your standard bandwagon you have your long term bandwagon these are the Banwagons that sold out since the 70s or 90s and because they’ve been selling out for so long they think that they’re legitimate fans. And then you have the bandwagon by blood this is child abuse in my book when you Sell out and then you convert your children into being sellouts just like you it’s terrible. But these bandwagon‘s use this term America’s team all the time you say well you’re from New York why are you a Dallas bandwagon and they say I’m not a bandwagon I’m a fan and I’ve been a fan since 1970 no you are a long term bandwagon and then they say no they’re America’s team and then you realize that America’s team was just a gimmick to sell the 1979 losing Super Bowl teams highlight reel. So these bandwagons don’t have back bones and nothing to stand on and now we can easily prove it and that America’s team was just a gimmick to begin with and they were being called America’s team by NFL films located in Philadelphia where America started because the eagles are America’s team because it would be no America if it wasn’t for Philadelphia

Get this, even without having won a championship in the last couple of decades they are by far the most valuable franchise in professional sports and are still regulars on Sunday, Monday and game of the week broadcasts. If they win some more championships it will just solidify them as AMERICAS TEAM.
