One of my best friends’ family won the green card lottery 20 years ago. Today her dad works as an engineer, her mom is the CEO of a company and her and her sister are studying at really prestigious colleges. And what matters even more is that they’re the most humble, helpful and kindest people I’ve ever met. They were not born here in the US but I know they love this country more than the majority of Americans. Not every single immigrant is a good person, but neither are all Americans. But saying that this lottery brings the worst of the worst people here is the biggest exaggeration and lie ever.

I know so many people from Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan who won the lottery and they work as IT-specialists, constructors etc. They are decent people and they lead a life of a level they would never achieve in their countries. You can't say all the emmigrants are garbage just because one of them is...besides there are not prooves that he came here with lottery, maybe it just a reason to harden entering US. . .

if you change the lottery to a point system, those people would still be eligible to get a permanent living permit. however its not based on luck but rather on what the US need.

We are what we choose to be Mr. Peter... by all means keep on watching CNN and see where socialism takes you. I have already come and gone as far as a socialism in a country goes... The worst of the worst? My mother is an engineer who works very hard and has been harassed over and over at the work place. She also is a business woman and practices a bit of architecture. We’ve been applying for 2 years, and nothing. this is the second year we’re applying. Hopefully it works out. My country’s economy is dying and guess who gets to benefit from it ? The U.S and many other leading countries. My country is one of the main petroleum world providers. But they would rather see my people famished and slaughtered in order to get petroleum at a cheaper price. We’re only trying to get a better life. With my mother’s skills, she could very much help the economy. She’s applied for every way to get a green card. Even applying for the one Melania Trump got, the einstein visa. How is It that a model gets one of those and a woman (my mother) who is educated, with experience and knowledge, can’t even get considered for it? She even speaks 9 languages. But can hardly get an email back from American companies jobs she applies for. She’s over qualified. But no, WE ARE THE WORST OF THE WORST. Thanks tho

Fellow viewer, I urgently need your help! I'm a Portuguese national who wants to apply to the green card lottery this year (ends tomorrow). The problem is, I wasn't aware I needed to have my passport ready for the application until yesterday when I went to do the application. I have recently renewed my Portuguese citizenship card but I haven't renewed my passport yet, and it would take a week for me to get my new renewed passport. How did I miss the fact that I need the passport to apply for this years' green card lottery in the first place? Because I was stupid and naive, and I regret it now! So my question is: should I put the expired passport number and date (and hope that, if I get selected, I get the chance to introduce my renewed passports' data); or should I put the same passport number with the same expiration date of my citizenship card (which would be lying)? Please, I really appreciate your help right now.
@sayyer10
@sayyer10 4 жыл бұрын
Guilherme Lourenço It’s been 6 months since you posted this and I only saw it today 9 May 2020. Answer is no you cannot use your expired passport or identity card for the application becoz it amounts to lying. Wait till you get your new passport (which you already have by the time you read this) and apply all over again in 2020 (3 Oct - 5 Nov).

It certainly is a very selective process. With regards to what you’re saying: 1. While a high school diploma is a prerequisite to enter, more often than not, only those with much advanced degrees will make the cut. This guy is one of an almost non-existent group of lottery-winners without advanced degrees, an even smaller subset from whom actually pass the subsequent screening. 2. Should one win the lottery, they will not be granted a green card should they have a non-rehabilitated criminal past or a disease that could be a threat to the US.

I'm a green card lottery winner and I was very disappointed because of the selecting process. In fact, I am from Ukraine and in my country there are plenty of really smart people like scientists, PhD owners, highly-skilled engineers, prospective students, IT specialists, etc. And since my country does not provide a proper treatment for them, they would love to work in a country that may give a hope for the better future. But, unfortunately, the green card lottery is a random lottery, so all such people have no chances to win. What is wrong with the US, is it hard to be more selective? Such lottery is a huge opportunity for the country: it can bring most intelligent "brains" from the whole world, but instead it collects worst of the worst.

They should just make the immigration visa like non-lottery. Expensive (let's say $50K), and have mad requirements, such as University degree, have to pass an english test, have to give his/her information for checks for good behaviour. I think in the world, not many people can afford $50K and a Uni education anyways. And the ones that can, can also save $50K within 5ish years if they decide to migrate. Also ask for professional experience, and must be still empoyed at the time of acceptance. Make short windows for interviews. People can't be processed fast either way, so it will probably still allow 50K people per year in the U.S. Also the country earns money for salaries. That's 50K x $50K = $2.5 billion per year The only reason these lotteries to be 15 million people at a time is because people have accumulated and have been trying to re-apply continuously for the last 30 years.

I’ll just say I have a tourist VISA and spend the whole summer there. In my country I take American school and live in a nice compound but thing is everything is expensive for example school takes every year 100,000 EGP (If you earn EGP it’s expensive) and I’m going to grade 11, like damn that’s like 1,300,000 EGP. And now my dad is trying to enter as a Investor (btw my dad is not that rich but we live a good life) he sold his land cruiser and got something lower with some money he earned to invest while he pays a lawyer like 6 grand or something but you know nothing happens, it just hurts watching him suffer and I can literally do nothing about it. *Please read all if you have some time* Just letting you know guys thank god for everything even though were trying our best I love my life and everything but it just sucks man, For me I want to work as an Cyber security/ Entrepreneurship like I grind my ass up and study everyday about these stuff with editing/photoshop like I’m trying my best Ps: grade 10/11/12 we should take courses SAT that 1 session costs: 300 EGP, like 2 math and 2 english a week costs 1500 EGP just take it to a month and two you’ll find that’s expensive but I’m learning online and everything... *ALL I WANNA SAY IS THAT I BELIEVE ILL BECOME SUCCESSFUL BUT IF I LIVE HERE EVERYTHING IS EASIER AND THERES LAWS AND EVERYTHING, LIKE EVEN IF I DONT GO TO THE 🇺🇸 NOTHING IS GONNA STOP ME FOR CHASING MY DREAMS WATCH MY WORD!!!!* At the end I know I’ll live there but just don’t let the immigration that complicated like you can help me get rich not waiting for me to be rich in an barely impossible country.

One would question the authenticity of 'random' selection that allegedly the GC process undergoes. I have applied 11 times in total, all in vain and the last two times I did it with my spouse and child. I know people who got theirs and they had absolutely no idea what America's values are, did not speak English and had no applied training or diploma besides the minimum required. The American dream is nothing but a mirage created after the depression era. What I lost is that my dreams and goals got squashed, while America gained more low IQ residents. I am talking about the majority of winners in my country. People who get back after a couple of years because they found it hard to assimilate to US culture, not knowing anything about it doesn't help. So, to recap, I highly question the purpose of the green card selection. A country as great as America should hope to bring people who will maintain its grandeur and status and not downgrade it. I hope that congress would reform and come up with an approved bill that allows only people on merit.
