His third wife had a horrible childhood. No wonder she was so easily manipulated by Gary. He treated her nicely. That's all it took, because no one else ever did. She was raped by 3 boys at 7 or 8 years old. Then molested by a relative. Then sent to a mental institution simply because she had epilepsy due to a head injury. She was assaulted and abused there too. Then her first husband abused her mentally. She is a true survivor in my opinion. I hope she has some peace now because she's been victimized her entire life and she's still humble and thoughtful.

I looked at the Wikipedia page for him. I was SHOCKED to find that his first 43 (of 49 official) victims were killed over quite a SHORT TIME SPAN: July 1982 - March 1984 -- less than two years. More than two a month! I think this is an important fact, but these documentaries never emphasize it.

@philsurtees
@philsurtees Жыл бұрын
@@indy_go_blue6048 Yeah, I was going to say that books are really the way to get more detail, but you have already said it. I got into true crime - and serial killers in particular - after reading a biography of Jeffrey Dahmer, years before KZbin was a thing. Not that I - or the book - excuse what he did, but when you know his upbringing, it does explain it. He was an awkward kid, who wasn't good with people, and every time something good was about to happen to him - like finally making a friend - it was taken from him, for one reason or another (not always sinister; often just by coincidence). I was able to imagine a giant sieve, into which everyone is poured, and the vast majority of us find connection, or whatever, and come through it OK, but a very few people - like him - somehow have the right, or rather very wrong, sequence of events occur, and a serial killer is sifted through. I don't even like killing cockroaches, so I find it fascinating that these people's minds can travel so far from where my mind is at, and that's why it's the fine details which really interest me. Those books by John Douglas are very good...

Pretty Cat!! I love your cat, too! I, being born in 1973, have come to realize, that these "normal-looking" guys are able to "blend in," and appear "not threatening." Sorry to be stereotypical, but if a guy is tattooed, bearded, long-haired, muscular, with a big scowl on his face, he would NEVER be able to gain the trust of victims, to get them into a vulnerable spot. As a cat lover myself, I too, still say, "Everything is about LOOKS! That goes for cats, too. If a cat is female, cute, has a soft meow, and a loud purr, there is NO way that she can be an attack cat!" My cousin, who is a veterinarian, said, "She may be a cute female cat, but she can also have sharp claws and fangs!"

It's crazy how he was able to get away with it for so long. He was a poor student as it took him almost 6 years to graduate from a 4 year high school, is dyslexic, and has an IQ in the low 80s (average is 100). He wasn't book smart by any means. However, he was charismatic and picked easy victims. Sex workers were (and still are) not valued as highly in society. In general, they are seen as the gross, diseased, objects, basically the lowest rung of humanity. That in an of itself is a disgusting belief most have. They're runaways, addicted to drugs, and had burned a lot of their own bridges with loved ones or escaped abusive situations. These young women and girls had no one looking out for them. No missing person's reports, flyers with their names and faces on them were never put up, no concerned neighbors or friends running the streets looking for them. The only way anyone found them was by stumbling across their bodies on the riverbanks, on trailsides, or in ditches. He got away with it for so long because he chose victims he knew most people wouldn't care about.

@@damienholland8103 I have met more than a few and others who have been victimized by offenders. What it says about me? That I always used caution and protected my children and others as they were growing up. I created groups for children to give them safe afterschool activities to help decrease the chances of their being abused. I do not hate good men but I also do not tolerate people who try to abuse children. To say most men are good is almost laughable. Prostitution of children, pornography supported and protected of children by too many adults. Men are so afraid of bullies they choose to ignore their crimes rather then report them. They chose to work with them because they have no fear of being victimized by them in that way. So many in law enforcement all the way up to our Government refused to create laws, fund agencies that were created to save children from abuse. Why are people protesting Planned Parenthood when it is children being abused by family members and their friends the most? Why are they not protesting violent sex offenders getting early release and pitiful sentences instead? This is why many females choose abortion over the risk of a child being abused either thru adoption or as an orphan. It isn't just men, it is also weak and selfish women too.

How killers including serial have began crying or apologizing once it starts. The guilt (which they feel in different degrees just pleasure is more powerful ), public humiliation, uncovering, abandonment they get from everyone, but their closest and even then they're abandoned. This together stings even if only temporarily it stings like fuck. You've seen it time and time again even from serial killers who try and act totally unbotherd.

Sam Little confessed in 2018. So it's likely the video was produced prior to that, or prior to the FBI confirming them. No one goes back to edit programs when new information arises. There's probably some movies out there that say the Empire State Building is the tallest building for instance.

The Green River Killer has affected my life because he killed one of my best friends mother. She was one of his first victims. Joey Bonner was his name. His mom was killed by this weirdo. It hits home to me because growing up we all knew that this has affected my friend. He was really without his mom. I mean I don’t remember what his mom looked liked. I just remember she was never around his house when we were over. It’s sad having to know that your friends mom is apart of this crime story. Her face was always put on the television. How did Joey feel? The things they called his mom. The activities she was involved in that got her killed. Joey had to feel a certain type of way about it. He talked about it from time to time but not often. He was embarrassed. Hurt. Not having her around, Joey turned out to be a pimp. He was doing to these girls the same as his mom was done by her pimp. It makes you wonder if he did this because of his moms fate? Did he feel that these women were like his moms. They prostitute themselves as his mom did. Does Joey hate them? No respect for them? Is he getting even with them by doing this? Pimps are cold blooded. Joey was not. He was out of place if you ask me. Blonde haired baby faced Joey. Pimping hoes. No mother figure to learn from. Only the reports on the news that protrayed his mom as a hooker. Now Joey hangs around hoes, staying in the same motels and strips his mom resided in when she was alive. Other pimps knew his mom. Maybe Joey felt closer to his mom when he was in these places. Maybe Joey wanted to feel what his mom felt.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they get that opportunity too - if nothing else it means the killer is off the streets - but I wonder how much good it actually does? This guy's victims were prostitutes, so they had already had hard lives, and no doubt their families felt some level of guilt already (I'm not saying they felt, or were responsible, just that people tend to feel guilt about things like that), and I imagine the way they feel is not something that can be wiped away just by yelling at a guy who isn't affected by what they're saying anyway. You're right though, hopefully it brought some kind of closure. Sadly, I have my doubts though...

I was born and raised here in Seattle and remember this case very well. Seems like we had to run a bad luck with Bundy and Ridgeway.
