I read that Ramirez had been knocked out cold several times in his child hood. That's actual brain trauma. You couple that with the other factors of his life: physical abuse, mental abuse, having an uncle teach you about his war crimes in Vietnam, and witnessing a murder, etc. It's not an excuse but there were definitely factors that added up to this serious dysfunction.
@jonathanramos8414

You could definitely see why he became a serial killer. It's a shame that his family was such garbage. Of course I don't like what he did but his parents have no one to blame but themselves. Other killers like Dahmer in the other hand had a fairly loving family I don't know why he became a killer. And a cannibal at that

In March of 1984, I had just turned 24 and had gotten my first apartment twenty miles away in a suburb of Los Angeles which was at the beginning of the year-long serial killer case of Richard Ramirez. And, I can tell you being a young female and having moved into my very first apartment, as Ramirez started his killing spree, I was scared out of my mind! I went out and bought nails and a hammer and nailed all of my windows shut! Every day when I came home from work, I would literally 'clear' every room in my apartment by turning the lights on and then checking every room, even looking to see if anything was out of place. In the late 70s and the early 80s, Southern California was a Mecca for serial killers! While I was still a teenager we had The Hillside Stranglers from 1977 to 1978 who murdered 10 women and teenagers. William Bonin The Freeway Killer from 1979 to 1980 killed 14 men and male teenagers, although he claims to have killed 21. And, then we had Richard Ramirez who heinously murdered a total of 14 people including children, and was said to have also raped 11 people that included children. I remember coming home from high school and watching the nightly news that reported, "Yet another body of a young female found nude and displayed on the side of a hill in the Los Angeles area". At the time, and because I lived on the coast less than 10 miles from the beach, it was 'normal' for teenagers to be seen 'hitch-hiking' to the beach. When the Hillside Strangler Serial Killers were reported to be picking up young women hitch-hiking we all stopped hitch-hiking that day! You didn't see young people hitch-hiking anymore! Living in Southern California during the late 1970s and early 1980s was VERY scary!! Looking back on it and seeing the documentaries on all of these Serial Killers that were active during the time I was a teenager and then as a young woman terrifies me and makes me feel really lucky that I survived as a young female on my own during that time! At the time Richard Ramirez was on the loose, I worked with a man named Steve. He and his wife lived in Downey, CA, and they were active members of a fairly large well known Christian Church and they had made many friends at the church. One day Steve came into work which was a Monday and he just didn't seem to be himself and I ended up asking him if he felt well? He then proceeded to tell me and a couple of our other co-workers that he and his wife had attended their church the day before and had found out that one of the couples that he and his wife knew at the church had been murdered by the "Night Stalker"! At the time, no one knew the name Richard Ramirez, because he hadn't been identified yet. This was very shocking to hear! One of the things that Steve said was that the killer had cut out their eyes (maybe the person who told Steve about the couples eyes being cut out worked for the Los Angeles Police Department and may have been at the scene?!). This fact was not made public until after Ramirez was arrested and more information on the victims was released. This was the reason that I nailed all of my windows shut in my new apartment! And had deadbolts put on my entrance doors! Even after Ramirez was caught and sent to prison, I constantly worried that he would escape! My anxiety and fear finally ended when he died in 2013. I was so happy when he died! I'm sure there were a lot of people who felt that way! FYI Steve's friends at Church -- were murdered on March 27, 1985. Their names were Vincent Charles Zazzara and Maxine Levenia Zazzara who lived in Whittier, CA, and were both shot. After Maxine died, Richard mutilated her body with a knife and gouged out her eyes. .

I’ll never understand how all these “professionals” can believe R.R. came from any kind of “normal” childhood. He had a crazy abusive father who used to hit himself in the head with a hammer until he bled and beat his sons. R. sustained two serious head injuries as a child, both of which left him unconscious and neither time did he receive proper medical attention. Afterward he developed epilepsy and was not treated for that either. A teacher molested all his brothers and probably him too. His dad used to take him to the cemetery when he was angry with him and chain him up there and leave him overnight. Then his crazy cousin whacked his own wife in front of R. and showed him pictures of women he’d raped and murdered., and also got him hooked on drugs and showed him how to burglarize houses and cut throats “properly.” Yeah…I don’t quite see that as any kind of “normal” or “average” childhood. I’m not excusing his atrocious deeds by any means, but there are reasons people choose evil paths. I don’t buy the “bad seed” theory 100%. Some may be, but most have unbelievable pasts and if you check into it, things become a lot more understandable.

@@carlosanaya4149 Actually what is funnier is that it was actually an old man in his late 50s who threw the first punch. As soon as Richie got in the car, the owner saw him. Richie told the guy to not come near him, because he had a gun with him. But seeing he had no gun on him, the old man opens the door of the car, literally snatches him out of it, and punches him on the face. Then another guy threw like a pipe in him, and as he started to runaway, the entire block was beating his ass with poles and shit. It's drugs, that changes a person brain chemistry. It's not just during the actual drug state. It's years of drug use, and that alters a persons behavior, turning a person into an aggressive cowardliness, with no remorse, and no empathy person. Btw, many people are physically, emotionally, and witnessed murder, but don't commit multiple murders. There is no excuse for killing a person, only if a person did commit murder during self defense.

At 16:42, the former FBI profiler, Robert Ressler, appeared, who had been invited to Japan to solve the Japan's cold cases 15-20 yrs ago. Also 3-4 other American forensic scientists who used to work for the FBI in the past showed up on Japanese crime TV shows. Those former FBI crime profilers & crime scientists are in high demand to resolve the cold cases in Asia, Europe & even in S. Africa, or around the world. What distinguishes them from the rest is the effective usage of the Forensic Psychology instead of relying on the old-fashioned physical & mental interrogations, or coercing the suspects to confess that is illegal in the West, i.e., the confession under duress is unacceptable in the US. Unfortunately America has the most serial murders even in comparison to Europe, but the sciences inclusive of the Forensic Psychology, an essential part of the resolution, is distinctively advanced as well. I'm truly impressed w/ that,,,,Good for you, America, & keep up w/ the great works. ,,,,,,(12/01/22)

This is unequivocally one of the heinous & depraved crime of the most extraordinary proportions. It is literally beyond belief. Without qualms, he reached the ultimate horrific level of atrocity & depravity. I can't help speculating that this is one of the worst case of a sociopath w/ the utter lack of compassion, conscience, compunction & remorse. I'm in doubt he is a psychopath on the grounds of the fact that he knew what he was doing was wrong. But he had been severely influenced w/ those illegal drugs such as cocaine & heroin-related drugs. As a consequence, he was not able to think & judge in normal manners. In other word, his prefrontal lobe of the brain must have become dysfunctional ( the function of a prefrontal lobe of one's brain is equivalent w/ a brake of one's car) & so he was able to commit those unspeakable heinous atrocious crimes with no qualms. It is truly a puzzling query if that is owing to Nature or Nurture, & it is unclear as of now but in the future, I hope it could be clarified more accurately & better w/ the assistance of more advanced & sophisticated medical equipments such as F. MRI ( Functional MRI ), Ct scan, PET Scan, etc.,,,,Thanks for reading my lengthy comment,,,,I wonder if anyone comply w/ me,,,,,,(11/28/22)

And I think that's the appeal because everyone wants to believe that only some kind of monster or someone suffering mentally can do this. The reality is alot scarier; we live amongst people like this. People with absolutely zero regard for human life

No one is destined to be good or bad, it is the enviroment where one is raised that produces good or bad people I believe. If people are not receiving love in the family, they go and look for that lack of love, sometimes and most often in the wrong places.That is why mothers and fathers ought to treat their children with a lof of care and love, not hidding from them anything, and never betraying them, Because once a child is betrayed, he becomes a lost soul.

With no love and abuse society suffered. Shame he did not run into someone to help him as a child. Yes as a Christian, i feel sadness for him. I feel sadness for all the victims, but he was a victim also. Evilness comes from evil. Its a vicious cycle. We must become more involved with all the children displaying violent behavior. Look at our school shootings.. It is getting worse. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over with bad results or no results. So we go to the source, the homes.

Could do without the sensationalism - we are all capable of killing. It is a question of context and opportunity. How many people who kill in situations of domestic violence are accused of being born to kill? How many people who kill in self defense are accused of being born to kill? The factors that contribute to someone becoming a serial killer are factors of nature and nurture. Most often, the signs are there in childhood - leaving these children neglected.
