I'm an INTP 15 year old, and I'm fed up with high school. I'm going to my junior college next year and this summer because of it. Teachers are terrible at teaching things the way I want them taught. When I learn math, I need to learn how each theory was developed, why this is there and exactly everything about everything so I can use the information and build upon the idea. Even in science, they don't go into depth about things, they just brush over topics. Hopefully college will be better for me, I'm starting next year. I agree with your idea on the way I learn language as well. I am a decent writer because I read a lot of good books with perfect grammar, and I know the pattern and rhythm the words have when they fit together correctly. English teachers don't do anything, just tell you how to write essays (I suppose practice does help).

I'm an INTP and I dropped out of highschool in grade 10 cause I found it so boring, the thing I hated most was in math they would teach you to do one thing and not tell you why and so I couldn't make sense of WHY certain equations worked (which was kinda necessary for me, 3brown 1blue is a great channel for learning why and how many equations work, btw). I ended up finding everything much more interesting if I learned on my own at home and I self taught and took a test after for my diploma, but I'd suggest you don't do that.. I regret it, my social skills took a big hit and I never went to college and I'm still trying to recover from it and I'm 25.. It's probably best to just grind through it, College will be better because you get to choose what you study and they go much more in depth.

Interesting point about INTPs needing to know the whole system, when I am learning something completely new I almost feel flat out dumb trying to piece what I know together. That is until I know enough that I can work out a "system" and then it just clicks and at that point usually I will jump from being far behind my peers to quite far in front and much more able to manipulate the information I know to make it work for me.
@sfam5920

This is exactly me in med school. I'm insanely slow at piecing info together bc I need to understand everything and then put it in a system before memorizing it. Other students are like, no just memorize, memorize. And I feel like I don't know much until the day of the test and I end up doing way better than the average ☠️

I am a INTP. In school, I could never pay attention to the teacher. I would just day dream, or try to pay attention. Though, I could never "comprehend". I would always, have to go home and teach myself later. Just using examples from the textbook. When it came to audio lectures. It is like, I was listening to a lecture in a another language that I was not familiar with. In the sense, I had to listen to the lecture first. Then convert to my own language second. Also, taking notes are very important to me. My own modified mind maps help a lot.

I think the Ti function makes your system prefer teaching yourself. Just like the Fi function makes it's user first internalize feelings of others before being able to respond to it, in Ti the same thing is happening where everything is still first filtered through your Ti and logical internal ordering system before it can be stored. So all information that comes in, must be located in the right spot before progressing into the next thing. If people teach you stuff while you have no interaction with the person (which prevents you to be able to ask things if unclear) then your system can not accept it, because it is unclear where or how to store information. This problem is not there when teaching yourself things, because when things are unclear you will look into it more until it's clear before progressing. Ti wants everything to be clear and by preference breaks information down into it's core principles, which gives the user a deep understanding of the subject, rather than a superficial understanding if the material was digested right away without breaking it down.

Exactly this, often I can read the first sentence of a concept, if it is interesting sure I will continue. If not odds are i'll close the tab immediatly and really... the tab would never have been opened in the first place if I wasn't intrigued by it immediatly. Perhaps a better example would be, if someone is trying to explain an idea to a group and I don't care for it i'll be doing something else on my phone or thinking about something else no more than 30 seconds into the explanation.

For me it feels very differently to learn something (fast enough) compared to figuring stuff out myself. I find figuring stuff out a lot more satisfying, because it actually requires the creativity of my mind to do something, while when I'm learning something that is prefab, my creativity is bored more easily. Also if I learn something myself, I seem to retain the information better too, possibly because I actually had fun doing that, while digesting prefab stuff just feels a bit more boring. I'm absorbing data/information, but not nessisarily thinking about it much myself. It's a more passive way of thinking to absorb information that is presented opposed to information that is 'created'in a more active manner. Solving stuff myself has more that sort of game element to it,like solving a sort of puzzle/decoding some concept into it's basic elements...

Finally someone who gets it!!! I never understand teachers who get hell bent when certain students are not grasping their boring content. XSXPs are likely to do best when interacting with information versus someone passively learning via audio/visual. I used to try to take notes and spent too much time reading as I write and couldn’t understand or remember the whole picture. I’d have to trust that I can visually and audibly take in the information without looking at notes to understand the whole concept. Didn’t help with some teachers who taught and tested detailed information. We have different ways of learning and the teacher is ONE PERSONALITY teaching the material. Of course, some students are gonna struggle. The one teacher cannot meet all the learning needs and modalities of ALL students. Unfortunately, those students who struggle can sometimes be treated badly by the teacher delaying learning even more because the student is not supported in their strength.

I would just like to add that as an infp I like to be left to figure some of if not most of the work out. I am currently in academics, so I feel my comment should have some weight. I always managed to get a real grip on a subject when explaining it to others while quickly teaching myself from my notes or text book.

I am deeply intrigued with your videos. I am not for sure if I am an INTP type, myself, but I took multiple tests online (which I am not sure if all or some are accurate or not) and the results all lead to me being an INTP. Perhaps, I am not one. I might've been mislead. Maybe, I think differently than how I act. Perhaps, I am an INTP type. I can relate to this type but I am not sure if I can relate to it, completely. Even if I really am an INTP, I might be a bit different, especially with how I express myself. Maybe I pretended to be this personality that fitted with everyone else's and got so used to it that I learnt how to "express" my feelings. Also, I have not read or researched much about these MBTI types. I have a question. Can your MBTI personality type change? Can it completely change? Can you change your personality type, yourself? Do you think external factors can determine one's type? And what do you think my personality type is? Were the tests that I took accurate? And why do I question things so much? LMAO This comment is so long.

@Shunya i'm an INTP and I can be so talkative. It depends on who I'm whith. When I'm with friends and with people who I don't know at the same time i can be the most talkative in the group because i have the commodity of being with friends and the challange of knowing new and interesting people at the same time. When I'm just with my friends I don't talk that much because I get bored of how predictable they are and when I'm only with strangers i get too anxious to be talkative, and I find it hard to start a conversation without knowing what the others find interetsing.

Yeah, same here. It's like the information given to you has to be processed by your mind before your fully understanding of such. I have the need to make my own schemes. It's so frustrating because you feel like the person explaining something to you doesn't grasp the concept fully because the way they explain it to doesn't fit your models of thinking, but turns out that you are wired differently. I so much time 'just' organizing information in order to fit my thought process. Glad I found this MBTI thing. Cheers.

INTPs learn independently. They dont really need ro be taught. They are also not particularly visual. They learn by listening or reading. Auditory. They have good memories. They don't need to write things down. They recollect by thinking through the teaching while they are hearing it and in that process forming natural memory associations. This is my personal experience as an INTP.

I in fact got my Phd in Archaeology without ever attending a single archaeology class and had no academic background in Archaeology. My background was in History. I taught myself how to write music in my 40s. I have numerous other specialties and skills, all of which I evolved just by pursuing my own interests. While I can't say that all INTPs are like that, I strongly suspect they must in general have at least some of those attributes.

I started out behind on reading, (not surprising, they had no idea I had ADD at the time), even once I was caught up, I was just bored with reading because the books they had us reading was just boring. INTP Ramble Saaaaaaamme. They put me in a sort of remedial reading group off to the side with some other kids cause I was so behind- meanwhile I absolutely loved animal planet and especially the top most extreme animals series. As soon as I caught up I shot ahead of my classmates and was considered above average, but to this day I loathe annotations and have never enjoyed or completed anything I was "suppose" to read to be "cultured" or whatever excuse they used. I love reading and writing, but the kind taught in school is usually so devoid of anything I'd consider fun, that it's almost physically painful to do it.

I am a supposed INTP according to my perceptions of my own type functions. The issue of how strong my Ne is has bothered me a little bit. I have, however, seen you test Ne by assessing the natural ability for one to detect the cadence and rhythm in language. In my experience, the ways that syllable structure and stress work in language comes very naturally to me. In fact, I am a polyglot. I speak 5 languages. The first compliment I get in any language is how native-sounding my accent is. Even in a language such as Japanese, where the pitch accent system works completely differently from a stress-based system like English, I naturally am able to perceive and reproduce pitch accent. Would you say that this is indicative of strong Ne? Thanks

I really have troubles with talking, i have so much to say but i'm unable to do it. I'm much better at writing, can express my self fully that way but i would like to get better at talking... i like debates. Trained myself to read without "self talk" still counts as auditory lerning?
@Talkingwithfamouspeople
@Talkingwithfamouspeople 6 жыл бұрын
Auditory learning really refers to "comfort in dealing with binary abstractions." Being an auditory learner means that you learn via symbols and language alone - you deal with language directly rather than needing to link back to experience before knowing what to do with the words. The metaphysician - INTP, ENTP, INFJ, ENFJ - operates in a dimension of relative certainty. We're concerned with the relationships between symbols, claims, arguments, and statuses. If we understand those relationships, then we understand how to legitimize stuff without needing to consider the specific content of the thing much. All matters in dispute can be determined via reduction to, and calculation of, universal rules. So, really, you are a metaphysician, not an auditory learner. But those are the same thing, as people normally mean the latter term.

Just stick to the rules like ESTJs: Here are the rules to learning: The Vatican owns your ass. Cognitive functions are in fours or in eights, learn to organize them. TiNiFiSi = TeNeFeSe...yep it is like a business presentation. Life is a game if all you want to do is make money. Never talk about American politics. never listen to American politics. Visual and Auditory is the way to go. Continue to see your notes periodically, try to record your voice talking about those notes...you will realize your voice is heavenly after all.

Learning happens without a teacher. I don't need a teacher or anyone to learn something. Babies are t taught to crawl or walk.

You only think that because you've not been asked to compete intellectually in a zero sum fashion against others as smart as yourself. One who thinks she needs no teacher has never been meaningfully tasked to learn more and faster than she finds easy.

a teacher does not only teach material but does teach other things as well like thinking, strategies, tips & tricks...etc. of course I am not talking about regular teachers, just the non-ordinary ones.

It is easy to be your own teacher, especially out of school and in the real world.

Too many people see teacher's job as teaching, which it isn't. All that a teacher is there to do is inspire learning. In a sense, this means you don't "need" a teacher per-se. With that said, they fulfill a vital function in the process. You have to get the inspiration somewhere or you will never learn.

Spoon Fork That is not true. You can not be a teacher and a student at the same time. Who was the teacher of Yoda and who was his student? Did Yoda teach himself everything?

so... are you under the impression that I drink alcohol? I don't. Regardless, if you are judging the merits of my words on such irrelevancies, then you are a weak-ass INTP indeed.

Again, irrelevant. Do you normally have a hard time distinguishing relevant information from irrelevant? That's common for ISFPs, INFPs, and both kinds of SFJ. Have you read the descriptions of those types to see if perhaps one fits you better than does INTP?

Though it is of course doubtlessly true that his passive aggressive tone and false assumption (the alcohol), are quite understandably irritating for a content producer such as yourself (and especially a content producer who's primary mode of perception and communication are Ne Ti [in any order really but obviously in that order in your case as an ENTP as you are obviously more than well aware]), do you not perhaps think that it would be easier to persuade him to take a step back and give further consideration to the notion that there is at least an inkling of a chance that he might have made the extremely common and perfectly understandable mistake of mis-typing himself? And I get that the tone with which you describe the facts does not in and of itself have any bearing on the reality of those facts, but if he is indeed an IxFP or xSFJ, then returning harshness for harshness will undoubtedly achieve precisely the opposite of that which you are trying to achieve. And of course if he is an INTP, which seems reasonably suspect to me as well, and even though most MBTI cognisent INTPs know better than to not take ENTPs tone with a grain of salt, which would of course justify the tone of your response, then that means you were wrong in the first place, which for reasons apparent to the both of us, is not likely to be the case. Just a thought, I'm not trying to pick a fight, I just think that it might be useful to consider. -Actual INTP Edit: Also a big fan of your channel by the way, on an entirely unrelated note...but then again if I wasn't I wouldn't have bothered to take the time to share my thoughts on this matter but I figured I might as well state that admiration explicitly anyways.
