One of the best known stories of all time, the story of how Moses parted the Red Sea as the Israelites left Egypt has been told and retold for countless generations. But what did it look like? When did it happen? Who was involved? Some people tell of chariots in the Red Sea, while others deny the event ever took place. Buckle up, the Bible is about to get Weird.

The more I listen to this podcast, the more the journey of the Israelites to the Promised Land sound like a family road trip. "If all of you misbehave one more time, so help me I will turn this pilgrimage around!" Also, the premise of the journey would make a good idea for an Oregon Trail-like Bible game.

One thing about Stephen’s death, I heard someone say that in that moment the Jewish people denied the Trinity. They denied the Father when they rebuked Jesus who said the Father sent Him, they rejected the Son when they didn’t believe that Jesus is who He says He is and killed Him, and than denied the Holy Ghost when Stephen was filled and they killed him for it. Interesting

This interpretation of the dialogue between God and Moses is actually pretty legit when you consider the scriptures say "God spoke to Moses face to face, AS A MAN TALKS TO HIS FRIEND"

I don’t know about Egyptian royalty but in the ancient Assyrian empire. Reading and waiting was not considered a kingly or royal activity. So there is some precedence for the idea that he couldn’t.

I wonder, since God takes evil and uses it for good, and we know knowledge has been an issue since the beginning... the tree of knowledge, the fallen angels teaching technology...and because magic used to be so much more common...maybe God's people had such a hard time believing in the miracles because they just didn't know how miraculous some of these things were. Maybe the more we learn about our world now, the easier it is to see the impossibility of things without God. We've gotten so out of hand with our quests for knowledge and technology and we're just too smart we think to believe in magic and miracles, when we look at the universe coming from nothing or a human surviving something they shouldn't be able to ectr, we can be pretty confident that we're looking at something that is impossible without an all powerful God. I know seeking knowledge led me to God. I just kept getting brought back to him when searching for answers about the mysterious things in our world.
@ShrexyGuy
@ShrexyGuy Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say knowledge itself has been the issue. I wouldn't be surprised if God looks down on people discovering things like meltwater pulse 1b, the copper tablet found on Mount Ebal, the actual, indisputable fact his son did walk our earth, and he's like "good job, you're finding the explanation of everything in Earth itself still". Then again I could understand his offense if it's done without faith to begin with too. In my opinion though it's been the pursuit of using things like intelligence or armies to gain strength ignorantly (and pointlessly) to try and become more than Jehovah that has been the issue

I never before heard the story of Moses holding up his staff to help the Israelites fight the Amelekites, but now that I've heard it, it is quite funny to me that the story of how the Danish flag came to be is very similar and obviously borrowed a lot from this Bible story. On the 15. June 1219, king Valdemar Victory of Denmark was on a crusade to christianize the baltic peoples of what today is Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. He established a castle at what today is called Tallinn (Which apparently means dane-castle in estonian) and here he was attacked by the estonians. The battle was going badly for the danes until a red cloth with a white cross on it fell from the sky. In some versions of the story, it is said that a voice spoke from the heavens saying that as long as this cloth was held high, the danes would win, somewhat like the story of Constantine the great and "In this sign you shall conquer". The archbishop of Lund; Anders Sunesen, took the cloth to a hill and held it high, inspiring the Danes to victory, but his arms grew tired and he dropped the cloth, after which the Estonians were once again winning. Two knights came to help and with the bishop on his knees, with one knight to hold up each of his arms, he kept the cloth held high and the danes eventually won the battle. Valdemar would adopt this red cloth with a white cross; the "Dane-cloth"/"Dannebrog", as Denmark's official flag and it is to this day the oldest continously used national flag.

156:48 God is infinitely forgiving. I am not. Power line right there. I also have a question if you ever see this: We are talking about how we have the Holy Spirit in us, but I also was under the impression that the first breath a baby takes when they are born is the holy spirit rushing into us. Now that I write that down, it also reminds me of God "breathing life" into Adam. ((Now that I think about it even more, this reminds me of Chi/Qi from Chinese thought, like energy or breath. Qi Gong, or Chi Kung means skilled breath & it is basically cardio from what I've seen. (Kung Fu is skill through hard work, so the kung/gong part is skill.) Sao is Hand (or shau, but again I am using roman letters & I heard sao from a guy who spoke cantonese & shao from a guy who spoke mandarin) & chi sau is often called "sticky hands" but that's different & the translations might be a little simplified or contextual. I also might be remembering this wrong because the guy who taught me kung fu died like ten years ago. I kind of think of life/breath (chi) to be like life/breath put into Adam. Life, breath, energy, blood, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, all this stuff has some overlap but also differences.)) 3:14:00 #hereticpride

Hey domg, the Hebrew word used is flexible to mean spirit or wind or breath depending on the use and context. The concept of the breath of life is mainly used in the OT to indicate a breathing creature, whether man or animal. You can think of it as the animating spirit of the creature. The notable exception to this rule is when Jesus breathes on His disciples and says "Receive the Holy Spirit..." Some rabbinical opinions (pre-Christian) therefore say that human life begins at birth. This is along the line of your thought, but it would be incorrect to say that every baby that draws breath has received the Holy Spirit, who comes to the one who has faith. The act of breathing on a person is still used sometimes when a man is ordained or when a child is baptized. It is common in pagan ritual that breathing is used to channel or receive spirits of various kinds, normally with the intent that their spirit would be superseded by a more powerful spirit, often to grant the power of divination or some kind of special physical ability. When we think of concepts like chi, we are operating with similar ideas like you said, however the eastern religions tend to de-personalize the spirits. Also to note is that there are many spirits, so although men were made to receive a spirit, this is so they may receive the Holy Spirit. All other spirits operate as wicked imitations. Hope that helps!

Not to be negative but a few notes, 1 isiah misunderstood the stories with the stone and water, in the first instance Moses was supposed to strike the stone and did it and it worked and it was ok, in the second is when God told him to speak to it, then he got frustrated and struck it which was why he was punished Also for the slavery, yes they had these protections, but they didn’t apply to gentiles. These only applied to treating Hebrews you bought. If you enslaved non Jews it was much more like other contemporary slavery

Id like to point out that the witch of endor was asked by saul to "raise" Samuel so she "did" but saw that it was in fact Samuel and freaked out. She wasnt expecting it to be Samuel so she clearly expected something else. She she was usually speaking with demons and just saying it was the person requested.

Tl;dr Get an ESV or ASV study Bible They recommend KJV, NKJV, and the ESV/ASV. Personally I’d recommend the ESV/ASV out of those. Wendigoon uses KJV, but it was translated 400 years ago and we’ve found a lot of things since then, like the Dead Sea scrolls, and also it’s the one with the thou arts so I don’t use it. Preferably get a study Bible in whichever translation, for extra context.

I love this series and it’s taught me a lot but I strongly disagree with the “once saved, always saved” thing. If you walk away than you forfeit the gift the God give you. You need to repent and come back. Not saying doubting does that but if you straight up walk away from the faith and don’t come back then God is clear about names being blotted out of the book of life.

This is where our free will comes in! However, I do believe that many who walk away from the faith eventually come back through God’s grace as long as we are willing. It’s like, God will open and close doors in our life and we can choose to step through or ignore all God has for us. He has a plan for us, and he knows who all will be saved. When it seems hopeless to us God’s grace is sufficient.

Jesus says if you believe in him then you have eternal life and will never come into condemnation (John 5:24). Also Saul and Lot both have bad endings but they are still in heaven. Also everyone starts out in the book of life. When you get saved your name isn't added, it's just never blotted out. And you're removed if you die unsaved or do something unforgivable like remove from God's word. "He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels." (Rev 3:5)
