Damn, Cherno Alpha sure got killed early in the movie, she may be a mark 1 Jaeger but unlike her former Jaegers who eventually lost, this proves that Cherno is one tank that survived and defeated many Kaijus, its just a shame that kaijus become more and more adaptive which then leads to her eventually death at the hands of Otachi and Leatherback. Man i wanna see Guillermo Del toro should try to show the prequel where the mark 1 jaegers defend from the initial invasion, that would be awesome.

There were 30 Jaegers built by 2020, many more were planned as we know Striker Eureka was a Mk V jaeger, the first. But by the year 2020 Jaegers were starting to be destroyed at a rapid pace, by 2024 they lost 8 Jaegers in just 1 year. It was clear by the start of 2021 the PPDC couldn’t keep up with the Kaiju in a war of attrition. So they stopped funding and building them and instead focused on building the wall.
@primo22965 жыл бұрын
Kadum Also just because we can build hundreds of Nukes in a year doesn’t mean we can Build Intricate Humanoid Robots the size of skyscrapers that have thousands of moving peices that all need to be exact, and require the power of a nuclear reactor to run at the same rate. As it is it takes roughly 5-10 years to build a Nuclear Aircraft carrier and they’re actually smaller than the Jaegers in some case.

@DocWolph7 жыл бұрын
Yeah no. Those were the crazy ass Godzilla movies of the 70s. The Legendary Godizilla, which is the one that would be used, would get wrecked by a couple of Cat 3 Kaiju, killed by a couple of Cat 4 Kaiju, or Murdered by a Cat 5 Kaiju. Also every time someone survives a Black hole you know its BS once you learn what a Black Hole is. NOTHING CAN BEAT A BLACK HOLE. Black Holes, Magnatars, Gamma Ray Bursts, Quasars, are all absolute forces of cosmic destruction. Godzilla stands no chance. against them. Also if something is powerful enough to blow up a planet, anything even remotely less than that stands no chance. What's more, why blow up Godzilla when you can blow up the planet he is standing on? In this case, they would be holding back unable to use adequate force with destroying their prize and or themselves in the process. It is a "DBZ paradox", they are strong enough to destroy the Earth outright and yet can not use enough force to take out each other without killing themselves in the process. So they have to weaken each other to a point they can use just enough force to kill their opponent without killing themselves, as well.
@oliviasandersronaldkingjr38407 жыл бұрын
DocWolph First of all, I apologize for my misunderstanding, as I thought this was just a general, fun death battle scenario, I was unaware we were focusing on any specific version of Godzilla. The source of Godzilla surviving the Black Hole was much more modern, with either Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla III (2001) and Tokyo S.O.S (2002), so it's not quite like the 70's features, where he would fly with his atomic breath and such. Now onto the actual discussion. I am aware that nothing can escape a Black Hole. However, that was a fictional movie with a fictional plot, and therefore they showed Godzilla surviving a black hole (or maybe it was a miniature black hole, I can't remember), to drive home the point of how strong he is. The problem here is, the Legendary Pictures Godzilla is more realistic in terms of capabilities with its size and such, as that's the type of movie the director wanted to create, where they portrayed him as a force of nature, rather than, let's say, Godzilla Final Wars (2004), where he was supposed to be a more action orientated beast, fighting off other monsters who were just as campy and absurd.
@DocWolph7 жыл бұрын
Oliett the Cancer Crusader, It most likely was "wide open" but it is too easy to just say the strongest version of given character, who has been around for decades, and blown way out of proportion, versus more grounded characters. Of course your nuke trumps my grenade. But grenade versus grenade? Who wins then. That is MUCH more interesting.

Whenever I hear that nuclear explosions can't kill an organic being, but a giant robot with a sword and plasma weapon can, I know we are not anywhere near reality... However I loved Pacific Rim, twas awesome fun.
@tanker99877 жыл бұрын
If an alien civilization can create organic 300ft monsters, surely they can implement countermeasures into the weapon.
@fredsas127 жыл бұрын
What countermeasures? A plasma weapon does damage by extreme heat, causing the disintegration of structures on the molecular and atomic level. A Sword can cut materials, because the sword's molecular building blocks have stronger bonds than the material it is cutting. Thus the material bonds will break BEFORE the sword's does. A nuclear weapon also does damage by heat, but on a MUCH more extreme scale than any point focused plasma weapon, causing secondary pressure waves which by themselves can disintegrate and liquefy molecules, as well as EMP shock waves that can overload the monster's electronic pathways (any technological devices as well as nerves and spinal communications). A nuke is an ultimate "multi-attack" total annihilation device powered by the same atomic reactions that power a star. (I don't have to explain how powerful a star is). There is simply no immediate "in this moment" countermeasure against energy so extreme and uncontrolled... Not only that, but a 100 metre tall giant lizard weighing in even at 100,000 tonnes would go flying like a bowling pin if a nuke hit him. Stiff backbone structures like the neck, arms, legs and spine would immediately be crushed and mangled, Soft high plasma tissue like eyes, brain, blood and lungs would liquefy just from the shock wave itself. I don't think I have to go on... Which brings back to the conundrum... The monster has no defence against a giant sword, (or a surgeon's tiny biopsy blade for that matter), but can withstand nukes. :)
@fredsas127 жыл бұрын
I hear you. They could have have done it a lot cheaper with energy weapons mounted on downward targeted satellites in orbit. They would have cost a LOT less than giant robots, and there would no risk to them being destroyed either... The moment a rift opening was detected they could zap the entire thing. The monster would be dead or extremely incapacitated just coming into the world, making it easier for subs and other stuff to finish it off. No matter how big they made them, the end would always be the same.

kaiju is basically just any big monster, so yes Godzilla is a kaiju along with Kong. And he's not necessarily a good one, in the early movies he was actually the bad one, but eventually became a good one but not because he was of good heart, it was more just because he had to. Or in terms of the 2014 movie it was just to maintain his status in the pecking order.
@goji2537 жыл бұрын
Depends, in his first movie, he was essentially a good guy, he, however, died in that one as well. A second Godzilla surfaced, gradually becoming more of a protector of humanity. In later movies he was essentially always the bad guy, helping humanity but also causing a lot of death and destruction on his way. In the newer eras, a similar thing took place, though there he also slowly rose to the protector position in the end. The 2014 Godzilla is back to the second era of Godzilla movies, meaning he is essentially just a monster, but "accidentally" helps humanity by dealing with his own problem. The newest one is back the very first Godzilla, who is a plain villain (2016)

It baffles me that when a new sci-fi movie comes out, the first 10 or so of the movie shows a brief background. Then the rest of the movie follows the usual action movie "script". Impending danger to humanity discovered, protagonist fights said danger, protagonist either dies or is beaten, (if alive) protagonist goes through a re-discovery phase, que training montage, and finally the final show down..... Why can't sci-fi movies start with the origin stories of the new universe and actually devote time and resource into making the scale epic and memorable. In my personal opinion if you want to make a block buster movie you should show the audience something that a tv show with a decent enough budget wouldn't be able to match.

Pacific rim realistic? In the real world the global governments would just build as much artillery and bombs as they could. And probably just stuff a dead kaju with a shit load of nukes & drop it into the rift.
@Hybrid00277 жыл бұрын
I know, but part of the reason I said realistic was because I'd like to think it'd happen very much the same way -- we'd use nukes as a last resort, until it turns out they're not always 100% effective and the monsters keep attacking major cities anyways. Then, faced with the thought of nuking even more cities (which might not even work), they came up with another solution.

There should have been a prequel movie made following these events, instead of the dreadful sequel.

Officer, 'Are we going to build a containment facility around the portal so that we could effectively kill the Kaiju while minimising our use of resources and nuclear weapons?' -General, 'Fuck no, let's build a corps of massive giant death robots and use them to fight the Kaiju in densely populated areas!'

Yes, please do one on the wall. I never understood the logic behind it. Governments wouldn't have been so dumb as to believe the walls could stop the kaiju, so why the fuck did they build them? Also, why not have constant surveillance (like a satellite) above the fissure, and have battleships, aircraft carriers X amount of safe miles from the fissure, ready to shell and bomb the fuck out of every kaiju that appears?

I still think the 2 biggest plotholes are that they did not build turrets with the plasma cannons, and why the fuck they did not use the onboard weapons as a first option, rather than a last resort.

They were caught off guard? Sonar couldn't find it.

Dropping Tungsten cored penetrators from orbit on top of Kaijus would be interesting.. nowhere near as cool as a giant robot tho

The heck 3 nukes to take down tresspasser,it only took a few punches and rockets for striker eureka to take down that kaiju that attacked sydney in the movie.
@viiking017 жыл бұрын
Noob question. Did the Kaiju have a main objective? Were they just like large aggressive animals or do they have a higher intelligence?
@Dres20007 жыл бұрын
Viiking 01 they attack by orders Hounds: target the populated areas Exterminators: Make sure the job's finished. Big ones: Eventually take possession....

Is king kong considerd as a kaiju? Can the jaegers ask him for a fist fight?
@tanker99877 жыл бұрын
These Kaiju are unrealistically tough. A single bunker buster (can penetrate 10ft+ of concrete) on the head should be overkill. Also how the hell do you move 300 ft robots from one side of the world to the other in less time than it takes for a Kaiju to destroy a city?
