One thing I can't understand, why do you purposely reffer to USSR as Russia when it actually isn't, even Stalin himself was not Russian but Georgian. It just happens to be that Russia was the biggest republic withing Soviet Union but they were not on their own, its kind of same if you would reffer to USA as California since its the biggest state, at least population wise.

Because the USSR was effectively a continuation of the Russian Empire. Russian was the official language and countries that were briefly independent after the Empire fell were quickly reconquered. A better analogy would be if California had half the population of the US, covered 3/4 of its area, and spoke only Spanish and made Spanish the official language of the entire US.
@Flynn205 ай бұрын
Stalin, despite being an ethnic Georgian, was a (tyrannical) Russian nationalist at heart. The video has significant disagreements with Wikipedia's account of how Korea was divided. According to Wikipedia, Soviets proposed that both US and Soviets withdraw at the same time, and let the Koreans sort it out. USA rejected that proposal. USA instead brought in UN to organize a vote, but the Soviets didn't trust UN and boycotted. So the vote was done only in South Korea, a decision that was opposed by 3 of the 9 members of the UNTCOK (Syria, Australia, Canada). The vote was also protested by USSR, North and South Korean leaders, and the people (who didn't want their country divided). The vote was boycotted by major South Korean leaders, so Rhee Syngman ran virtually unopposed. Jeju rose up in revolt against the division, but they were violently repressed by the S. Korean government.
@MichaelYoungShin4 жыл бұрын
The leftists and moderates were assassinated by right-wing factions in S. Korea or massacred in Bodo League, while they were purged for opposing Kim Il-sung in North Korea. All these revolutionaries and independence activists who fought their entire lives for independence were killed like flies after independence. It was a bad time to speak out against tyranny.

Ok this is a suuuuper simplified and subjective take. a) North Korea was not a Soviet puppet at all. Their founding principle, juche, emphasized self-reliance. Though they had diplomatic and economic ties to both the USSR and China, they retained their independence and often criticized the larger nations for what they saw as ideological weakness. b) This completely neglects to mention that the South was also under military dictatorships until 1988. The elections in 1948 were completely rigged so that the US' boy could win. South Korea was pretty much just as undemocratic and oppressive as North Korea until 1988, but we don't like to mention that since the United States backed the fascist government because at least they were anti-communist. However, I theorize if it was not Stalin, then someone else may do the same thing but the approach probably would be different. You left out the part where South Korea was a dictatorship until 1988, and that the DPRK was founded before the South, as well as that the DPRK had many rights that not even America had (equal pay for women, for example)
@thunderbird19212 жыл бұрын
News flash: Some American women were already receiving equal pay in the late 1940s (including the military ladies). Also, none of what you said justifies North Korea's brutal invasion of the South.
@shauncameron83902 жыл бұрын
But that proved trivial in grand scheme of things as DPRK was on an economic decline kept afloat by Soviet subsidies.
@weomxd Жыл бұрын
@@shauncameron8390 the DPRK's economy and food security only crashed following the fall of the Soviets and a unfortunately timed program to deforest many of their mountains for lumber, causing floods to wreak havoc on the country's crops. It wasn't an economic decline, it was a sudden economic crash. No one expected the Soviet Union to fall so soon and so rapidly, including the DPRK. However before this, the North was doing quite well compared to the South.

Imagine, if you will A country which people are happy Where healthcare, education, housing and food are considered rights, and are not for sale, but given for free A country where illiterate people are nonexistant, everyone has education Where no one is starving, even when there are shortages of food, people still get enough food A country were the goverment serves the people, and not the other way around Where private enterprise has been abolished for worker´s democracy over means of production Where the people can truly say from their heart "I love my country, I love my government" Where law is applied in a just way, and corrupt politicians get what they deserve Where everyone works for the common good of everyone, including prisoners, and the reward is a wage directly proportional to your production Where taxes has been abolished, since it is enough with get a little (Very little) from everyone´s reward before rewarding them (I´m talking about a 10% for the State) Where criminality is nule Where everything is eco-friendly, and is one of the few countries where the pollution is nule and the sky is always blue But! Other countries say that its exactly the opposite, saying that people are extremely oppresed That people have no freedom That food is almost non-existant That the goverment is oppresive That the state owns everything That people are brainwashed That you are executed for nothing That people are forced to work That people pay extremely hight taxes That criminality is in a peak That pollution is horrible And anyone who dares actually fact-checking is inmediately labeled as crazy, anyone who defends that country is labelled as brainwashed, anyone who presents facts and proofs that all those things are lies is put under "using propaganda as facts" Everyone on the planet except that country thinks that those people are suffering and are extremely brainwashed, saying things like "They live in a Orwellian Nightmare!" And they dont notice they are the ones under Orwellian rule That country, that perfect country, isnt fiction, its called Democratic People´s Republic of Korea. But for the propaganda they use the name "North Korea"

Then in 1910, only 5 years after Korea became a protectorate state, Japan again forced the king of Korea, who was Gojong's son Soonjong back then a treaty that will formally let Japan to finally annex Korea. (Also known as Gyeongsol National Humilitation). King Gojong was forced out of his throne when he sent three delegation parts (Lee Joon, Le Yiujong, and Lee Sangsul) to the Hague Convention to tell the world that Eulsa Treaty was not signed by the King himself and was forced by the Japanese. Even though that didn't do any influence to the treaty itself, but Japan saw him as a threat to rule Korea and made him to give up his throne by isolating him for almost two weeks. He succumbed and abdicated in 1907, the same years Japan again forced the government to sign Jeongmi Treaty, a treaty where it stated that Japan will gain all rights and commands to the Korean army, which made many Korean soldiers and people to rise up agianst the Japanese as guerillas.

@won18536 жыл бұрын
Nope it's not wrong info. Gojong ascended to the throne as king of Joseon. It was in 1897 he proclaimed the Korean Empire and took the title of emperor. The events explained in this video, like 아관파천(Taking refuge at the Russian embassy), took place before that, in 1896. So there's absolutely nothing wrong with "King Gojong", since he WAS a king at that time.
