@GeorgiaBoy19613 жыл бұрын
@ Ultra Unity: It is a cliche precisely because it is so often true, and has been true in the past, as well: recruits who possess privately-owned firearms and learned to shoot them prior to joining the military, tend to do very well when it comes to riflemanship. Ken Royce, a.k.a. "Boston T. Party" of "Boston's Gun Bible," described it rather well, saying that the traditional view within the army has been that learning to handle a rifle and shoot it well is like learning to drive a car. In other words, once you are familiar-enough with the equipment to use it safely and competently, your training is done. That's a mistaken view of mastering of a firearm, for it is actually much more like mastering a musical instrument. Serviceable results can be attained quickly, but mastery takes a great deal of diligent and focused study and work. The Marine Corps - whose traditional view of "Every Marine a Rifleman" is so much a part of their institutional identity - understood this better than the army for most of our history, but the army has caught up somewhat by forming their Army Marksmanship Unit, which is a tremendous resource for them. Regardless of what branch you join, you'll do better shooting if you did it as a civilian beforehand, and even better again, if you have done it for a long time and know your craft inside-and-out. And it certainly sounds like you did.

The M4 is just one configuration of the countless ones that can be built with the AR platform. The only real limit we have is that civilian versions can't fire full auto, which isn't such a huge deal imho (your mileage may vary). Even if the price of the parts for a true M4 clone are a bit beyond your price, you can still build one that'll work great. Building my first AR-15 has been a lot of fun.

We here live our lives without giving a shit about politics and paying very little to news (because they are all shite) and looking at the Guns that we can buy as things that we can have some fun over the weekend, but nothing more than that. @Patrick N I’m not sure why David thinks it’s dumb, but I’ll answer my opinion. It’s a polymer lower with a fixed stock molded to it. It’s a pencil barrel with carbon fiber wrapping, neat, but hardly practical as a “fighting weapon.” It lacks modularity where the AR15 is revered for that. It lacks durability, where the AR15 isn’t amazing, but plenty good. WWSD removes the positives of the AR platform and replaces it with dubious improvements. All for a hefty price tag that could be better spent on a BCM basic bitch AR with fixed FSGB.

One of my only regrets in life is not snagging the DD/Brownells "clones" of this when Brownells was selling them complete for like $1100. Would have been an absolutely badass rifle for really not much cash
@BunyipDude3 жыл бұрын
I had one; bought it from Brownell’s when it was on sale for $1500 (it was never $1100). Tbh, that Block II clone had a lot of build issues - the selector came from the factory loose, and many of the parts were not fitted properly. I also didn’t like that it came with a pinned-and-welded A2 flash hider rather than a Surefire 3P (I know that asking for a 4P would be asking too much in those days). The one cool feature was that it came with a DD cold-hammer forged SOCOM profile barrel, which is unique because DD does not normally offer that barrel profile - the factory DD M4A1 just comes with a Government profile barrel. Nonetheless, I wound up selling it after a year and just buying the factory DD M4A1 - in part, because I was trying to clone the “Sicario” rifle, and also because the Brownell’s SOPMOD Block II clone was so disappointing to me. I also just didn’t want to spend the money to buy clone-correct accessories, so it felt like a waste to have it.
@bent43023 жыл бұрын
@@BunyipDude huh. Good to know. Thanks bro
@BunyipDude3 жыл бұрын
@@bent4302 No problem; not all FOMO is good FOMO. IMHO, if you really want a Block II clone, get a Colt 6920 receiver, a Colt SOCOM profile or DD Government profile barrel (either is now clone correct), and a DD RIS II rail, and then build it yourself or have a good gunsmith do it for you.

7 years active duty infantry. I love the M4 for the simple fact I’m very familiar with it. However it is absolutely not perfect. Many malfunctions are due to things you may not think about such as your magazines or the ammo itself. However I will say double feeds are common and the bolt sometimes will not extract the casing. It must be very clean or else it will have malfunctions where I believe there are other weapons that can be very muddy and sandy and will still fire consistently. I could go on but Ide give the basic military used M4 a 7/10

I followed the Knights Armaments improvements from my computer screen, written and video and some books. A lot of them seemed great. There’s no doubt about that. The extractor and the bolt mods, etc. I have read that these were more expensive to produce? On a military purchase the price would hopefully have lowered? I may remember incorrectly, but I believe that a few of the improvements, such as the bolt were Not backwards compatible with legacy military guns. Is this true or was the cost difference the major sticking point? The original M-16 was purchased for a bunch of guys in SAC standing and moving around guarding nuclear weapons. My Dad did double duty as the Pilot and backup guard Officer on his B-36 when it was on the ground. He was issued a S&W .38 revolver. 6 turning and 4 burning! Curtis LeMay bought a bunch of M-16s (without forward assist) when he was the very powerful CINCSAC. These guards did not want or need to carry around heavy weapons all day. Given the same goals, I think the WWSD project has done a great job of improving the gun. Things that Stoner tried but weren’t technically possible at the time. Through a bunch of convoluted Military Branch competition, envy, turf protection and McNamara misguided cluster f**kage, the Army ended up having this light weight, light duty rifle literally shoved in their face. After trading in their M-14s. That most of the soldiers hated. McNamara had worked for Ford. His attitude was ‘a gun is a gun’. One should work for all of the services. He fought the Ford Mustang production with everything he could. It was essentially a tweaked Ford Falcon frame, engines, transmissions, etc. He thought the Falcon was an acceptable car. www.motortrend.com/news/robert-mcnamara-before-vietnam-there-was-ford-2366/ The 1965-66 Ford Mustangs sold more cars than any others in in history. ‘Nuff said. Then, he proceeded to f**k up the Military and the Positive view of America geopolitically by entering the US into the Vietnam “conflict” while serving as SECDEF. After a terrible cost in lives, permanent injuries and lessons paid for by Soldier’s blood, the M-16 was slowly improved over time to be a reliable weapon. That should have been done first. Knights Armament produces what the Army should have been given if Stoner had the budget, time, R&D to produce a tough combat soldiers weapon. That wasn’t his goal at the time. I don’t think? Hence my question about the reason KAC was not chosen? I’m guessing the proprietary barrel extension? Please, anyone better informed than me, please feel free to correct any errors and add pertinent information.
