Should Town Planning make a return for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles? Also, which of the two theories at 2:54 seems more realistic to you? -Lukas Support me on Patreon: www.patreon.com/mindthemap

Fun fact about the stadium in Nuremberg that won gold in 1928: The Nazis hated its modern design and added some wooden elements to make it look less modern
@MindTheMap4 ай бұрын
That is a great fact, thank you! It seems that it is the stadium that 1. FC Nürnberg plays in today right? It has been through some renovations and modernizations of course...
@Xaac16094 ай бұрын
@@MindTheMap It is, it has been through two major renovations and it might get completely rebuild within the next ten years. I think the only things that are still original is the shape and some parts of the main stand.

Whenever I see it on TV the shape instantly stands out to me! Would have never thought it all started with a Olympic gold medal! Also I am curious to see how Miroslav Klose does as a coach in that very stadium :)

@@MindTheMap Great to have you back,thank you. I wonder if the state paid for the renovations and then sold it for a pittance, like good old Britain did with our own 2012OlympischeStadion to some little team in the East End of London who's name escapes me...

Thank you! You sound like a Spurs fan :) Generally cities here are happy to get rid of stadiums to save on costs - however they often have to jump in when clubs fail to cover said maintenance costs.

They should bring back city planning as an Olympic sport, only with the contestants playing Cities: Skylines.

Reminds me of the true story when some mayoral candidates in Poland competed in a SimCity contest!

According to his statements and memoirs, yes.

Since you didn't check, the reason Lay's plan went unbuilt is explained. Robert Moses held an iron grip on all public construction in New York City at the time. Aside from the insurmountable cost and facilities he didn't see a need for, Moses only used designs produced by his architects. It was interesting that feasibility wasn't a requirement, and is likely why only 2 of the 12 winners were built.

Not what I was expecting from the title (I thought it would be about Germany rigging the host-city selection process, but that was probably before the Nazis came to power), but still an interesting topic. The arty side of the Olympics lives on in the Cultural Olympiad and of course in the opening and closing ceremonies.

I find it really tough to find the right framing/title/thumbnail for this video which is why it probably hasn't done well. Is Urban Planning still part of the Cultural Olympiad?
@SisterSunny4 ай бұрын
thank you for covering this topic! I'd known, vaguely, that the olympics once had town planning as an event, but it's good to actually learn about it now

Thank you! It was a fun fact I was aware of for some time but I never knew the stories and details behind it!

It is completely different topic from what you did before, but not less interesting though. Also I've got a video idea, what about a video about the metro they build but never opened in Charleroi, Belgium?
@MindTheMap4 ай бұрын
Thank you! In my mind it still somewhat fits as I am a student of Urban Planning but I feel like most subscribers think of this channel as a transit/metro channel? I think I have seen a video a while back from someone about that - I would love to explore Charleroi & the subject would be exactly right for me! I will look into it and how to get there from Germany!
