Many people can't fathom how important the monarchy can be. Those people look at the extravagant galas, and the expensive trips abroad and only see a "party life". Yes, maybe for a princess or prince, maybe for the cousins, uncles, siblings of the Monarch, but the Monarch herself has a duty throughout those appointments. The Queen represents Britain, not just represents, she embodies Britain's ideals. Is she always ideal? Maybe not. But what Britain demands of the Queen is to be the symbol most every Britain wants to be (charming, kind, personable, well-tempered, and of course, rich), and in doing so she maintains good relations with the commonwealth and with Britain's allies. The monarch is the backbone that holds all these relations up, because the monarch IS Britain. I am an American, I've lived my whole life in the US understanding that every 4-8 years a new president is chosen, and with every new president, the country shifts wildly into a new age, the political climate can change with such speed it gives you whiplash. It's not a pleasant feeling. There's no sense that anyone's ideals and values will remain 4 or 8 years from now, and that's a scary feeling. Britain may change Prime Ministers, but the Monarch remains, the Monarch is the standard in which the government is measured by. There's a sense of security in that, security that we don't have in the US. My hope for Britain is that the next Monarch will be just as sensible, relatively frugal, charming, well-tempered and wise as Queen Elizabeth II. One more thing: if you don't like the monarchy giving galas, traveling abroad, or even seeing a relative of the monarch spend vast amounts of taxpayer money with frivolity, just know that it's NO different with a Presidency, and I'm sure it's no different with a Prime Minister. The Queen and the royals fly commercially or in a small private plane, the President flies in Air Force I...one of the biggest planes one could fly in! The Queen sets an annual budget for her family and tries to never reach the extent of the budget, the President does not adhere strictly to a budget, if they surpass the expected expenses...OH WELL. The Queen is expected to maintain good relations with allies, and never show political bias, the President only maintains good relations as a formality, but can cut ties with allies very easily and the President rarely ever worries about political bias...which can create problems with maintaining relations with other countries that are necessary to keep. I see the British monarchy overall as a good thing to have.

I fully agree with your statement. Monarchy is an example of values. People sometimes evaluate the monarchy by the news of sensationalist taboloids should know the work and sacrifice of being a monarch. God save Queen Elizabeth ii.

In what way is she inspirational? She was born into this concept of "royalty". But why do so many people still idolize such a silly idea that this family was some how "appointed by God" ? She lives off taxpayers. The whole "royal" thing just baffles me. I mean, what do they actually do? Ok ok tourism aside, what do they do? Why are they idolized? She HAS retained a certain standard as to how to behave with dignity and propriety. But so did MY grandmother. In fact, my grandmother did that without mooching off the taxpayers. This great mythology aside, the mythology that royals are somehow appointed by God, exactly how are they inspirational? My grandmother managed to live a dignified, honest and inspirational life without benefit of others' work and taxes. What maked this old lady inspirational? She does NOTHING for herself. She does NOTHING other than cut some ribbons, baptize some ships, whatever. Are you so shallow that E II inspires you while accomplishing so little?

@@ghost-ez2zn she is inspirational in many ways, 1. Her mother The Queen Mother became the symbol of strength in WWI, 2. She became the longest serving monarch since 1952 (imagine that, if she serve for over 65 years is there no accomplishment in her very long year? Never? I think she has), 3. Like Diana, Princess of Wales she is the Peoples Queen, 4. And if someone want to abolish the British Monarchy, they are taking a large piece in our history. Imagine that

@@ghost-ez2zn Ohh by the way, read this. This come from the very own mouth of Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth II's Grandmother, she defined what is Monarchy. QUEEN MARY : Monarchy is God's sacred mission to grace and dignify the earth. To give ordinary people an ideal to strive towards, an example of nobility and duty to raise them in their wretched lives. Monarchy is a calling from God. That is why you are crowned in an abbey, not a government building. Why you are anointed, not appointed. It's an archbishop that puts the crown on your head, not a minister or public servant. Which means that you are answerable to God in your duty, not the public.

People have little knowledge about the Monarchical system, and confuse the person of the monarch with the system. The Queen is wildly popular, but it should be support of the system that keeps us in, not popularity of the character. The simple fact is that the benefit of keeping politics out of the head of state is supremely greater than the disadvantage of a dud inheriting the throne. Sadly, Charles is not a respectable man and as a result I think we might throw the baby out with the bathwater.
