I hate that Preston does not give any importance to the calendar. I think we have to put into the mix the fact that weir woods were green at some point. That makes so much sense that it baffles me the idea that Preston does not even contemplate it
@ev16777 ай бұрын
Yeah because they are not. If they were that would be specified but it isn't, not even once.
@galdo067 ай бұрын
I know the evidence is not vast, but is not like there is nothing. Green hand might reference that the weirwoods leaves were green. Green men might reference the actual trees and not actual men. I get you. I’m only saying: do not discard it

In the official calendar artist George commissioned himself and could be considered canon the trees on the island of faces are trees with green leaves and, as the name suggests, faces.

The “Wild wolf” was Lyanna in both versions, GRRM intended to confuse us but probably thought he didn’t give enough clues to solve it. The point is that when trying to figure out “the Stark who stood up to” Aerys going after Ashara; we are supposed to fail the “doctor riddle“ and only assume that it has to be a Stark man, as they fandom seems to do. This is wrong, of course, it wasn’t a man it was Lyanna who stood for Ashara’s mistreatment (to no avail in the end, hence Daenerys’ origin.) King, Lady imperiled, a Stark too “honorable “ to stand up “, and a badass Stark girl who ain’t hav’n none of it: Aerys, Lady Ashara, Stark boys, Lyanna Robert, Well…Lady(wolf), Ned, Arya Same pattern that tells us the laughing tree knight, hints at: Rhaegar wasn’t wearing his armor at either tournament nor the battle of the Trident (technically before and much after), Ashara is Daenerys’ mother and Aerys is her father .

When I heard this during the livestream, I thought wouldn't it be interesting if Ice is the sci-fi techomagic of hive minds, animated dead, mind projection, chaotic season (via dyson swarms in solar orbit), and telepathy. Fire is the fantasy magic of flying dragons, shadow babies, resurrections, healing, prophecy, and sacrificial blood magic. Don't know if that's GRRM's intention or goal. It just feels that way as everything in Westoros hints at some post-apocalyptic abandoned colony of Earth while Essos feels like there's this land of old ancient magic. Even then, the magic of Essos is pretty muted compared to other fantasy tales.

Interesting idea
@mohammedmotiwala55127 ай бұрын
Tho Essos does have plenty of architecture suggesting an apocalypse (oily black stone in Asshai, five forts, super large statue in Braavos, dead waste nuclear-like beyond asshai) The Fire magic is more magical. Hard to think of scientific anology for the shadow baby. Glass candles too. Dragons could be genetic breeding.

Nothing hints at that. You and Preston are reading into nothing.

Preston's theory about the Knight of the Laughing Tree being Ned is interesting, but it doesn't fit with the knight's description. He is said to be short of stature, and Ned was possibly already 18 by the time of the tourney, old enough to be taller than a crannogman. Either this knight is Lyanna, Benjen, Howland himself or some random dude who saw those squire beat up a small man
@kilroy35795 ай бұрын
I've found myself becoming more intrigued with the events of Harranhal and have given this particular situation more thought in recent weeks. And I keep finding myself thinking more and more, that Howland, is probably the Knight of the Laughing Tree himself. As far as all of the main people involved, the tree symbolism, only really seems relevant to him, so I'm not sure why anyone else would be using it. Being a secretive group of people, as the Crannogmen seem to be, would also explain why he wouldn't want to reveal himself as the Knight. Adding that Ned attributes Howland with having saved his life, makes me think that Howland Reed is a warrior with very few equals. Perhaps even a match for the Sword of the Morning, Ser Arthur Dayne? If indeed there was a battle with the Kingsguard at the Tower of Joy, and things weren't looking good, perhaps Howland resumed his Knight of the Laughing Tree persona, and went to work, saving the life of his liege lord and friend. Which brings me to Robert and Lyanna. Of all the people in the world, who should have been at Ned's side to rescue his sister, it was Robert. The whole war was essentially started over this woman that he supposedly loved more than anything. And yet, when the time came to finally go after her, he decided to stay in the capital to secure his reign? Instead, we find that Howland is one of the few who went with Ned, to find the same woman that dressed his wounds a year or so earlier. Maybe Howland didn't accompany Ned, just because he was his liege lord and friend. Perhaps, the quest to find Lyanna, was a deeply personal one for him.

Did you guys see the theory that weird wood trees used to be green?
@psevdhome7 ай бұрын
It's funny that Preston is such a creative, exhaustive thinker and spots these weird details and comes up with his theories. And then on the other hand he gets so easily tripped up by language that is so clear and simple and he just gets stuck on irrelevant details. Like this green men thing. The green men by my guess are Children of the Forest. They have, almost bark-like brown skin, you know, like trees. And green hair that sometimes even resembles leaves. So tree people, like green men. Also the eyes of the greenseers of the Children are green. So green men because they're literally green. Now this is obviously an exonym, i.e. a name given to them by outsiders. So the connection between their psychic ability, or greensight and greendreams, and their white trees where they get their power from, is not necessarily known to those who gave these green clad dwarves the name Green men. They just saw a bunch of green men, and thought, hey, those are men but green. The First men knew the connection of the Children and the Trees, but not whoever named the Green men Green men.

Nah green men are different than the regular CoF, green men might be the military faction of the CoF they are sometimes described to have horns
@psevdhome2 ай бұрын
@@Korleoneee Interesting theory, it's irrelevant to the point however, which is about Preston not understanding simple things that are clearly explained in the text.
