There appears to be a restlessness about Durant in his chosen profession. Why did he leave Golden State? Only Kevin Durant knows. But unfortunately for him, as far as his legacy goes: it sure seems to a lot of people that his joining the Warriors under the circumstances that he did so, was a shortcut. Don't fix what ain't broken; and the OKC situation was not broken. They were, in fact, wildly successful! It's just that the western conference has been a lot tougher than the east for quite some time now. There is a lesson: Learn to know when you have a good thing, a great thing in fact: whether that's a job, a relationship, or what have you! Before you make that move, ask yourself: What exactly is it that you think you're going to find over there? We need to remember the cliche: the journey IS THE destination!

KD made the right choice joining golden state. his mistake was leaving golden state. people might have been mad about him joining that warriors team that beat him the year before but they would have all eventually got over it and in 20 years no one would remember the circumstances of him joining golden state. he could have just hung around stacking chips and mvps, and there is a point where eventually you have so many accolades that no one can say shit; but instead he let kids on twitter dictate where his legacy would ultimately head because he’s emotionally soft. KD and steph could have won in ‘21 without klay, and won back to back again this season and he could be sitting pretty with 4 chips and possibly 4 finals mvps, and still go into the next few seasons potentially winning more. instead KD is going out sad because he cared too much what kids on twitter were saying.

I truly believe that the best team Brooklyn had in recent memory is when they had D’Angelo Russell, Spencer Dinwidde, Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen, etc. That team was like young up and coming and they were good! But then of course they somehow blew it all up. Now look at them. Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert have been centerpieces in the Cavaliers rebuild. And Spencer Dinwidde has been proving himself with the Mavericks. The only one who is questionable is of course D-LO, but he can still ball out

Nobody can blame KD for leaving Golden State because he simply had to. No one was ever going to respect the rings he had won and would potentially win in the future. WHere the blame on him does count is that he didnt leave Golden State to some bumass or mediocre team, he left to go to a Brookly Nets team that had made the playoffs WITHOUT Kyrie, except now he had Kyrie, AND he had James Harden. He shouldve done way more than win one series in his entire tenure, Lebron always delivered a championship to whatever team he joined within 2 years and furthermore he did it with the same guy Durant has in Kyrie. The blame on KD is that he underperformed in Brooklyn not that he lleft Golden State because he NEEDED to prove that he could win without Curry, Klay and Draymond

KD dropped the ball when he joined the Warriors. They were his rivals! You can be friends off the court but join forces as a superstar with a team with 3-4 all-stars... Come on. We criticized LeBron a lot and the only reason that we don't hate on the Miami championships this much is because Dirk beat them, and that showed that they were not invincible. The KD Warriors were simply too much. At some point, you have to care about legacy, loyalty, your team, your fans... In the end, you are earning millions of dollars because of all these things. LeBron at least won for the Cavs and brought them to the finals 3 more times, I value a lot more trying to get a championship to the team that drafted you. It doesn't mean that NBA Teams don't make mistakes, but man, you're a millionaire, be better.

If Kd stayed with ock they would have at least 1 ring now. And that would be more valuable than both rings he got in GS
@natebeal182 жыл бұрын
Yes he made the right decision. If you listen to Draymond Green's Hampton's Five story on JJ Reddick's podcast, he talks about how KD loves basketball and just wanted to play a better brand of basketball. Of course there is the rings they would win, but Golden State fit KD's ideal playstyle at the time.
@tredunn15242 жыл бұрын
I don't blame any of them for their initial choice (while I felt that KD's skillset was a natural fit with GSW, his mindset and preferred style of basketball was not...so he became unhappy, even while winning). So he wanted to play with his BFF. COOL! He even left with a S&T. BUT... all the decisions the Nets made after, were ultimately trash. IDK what their best path could've been, but I believe taking a stand earlier to keep the culture they'd already built would've likely helped, IMHO

Player empowerment with Bosh Wade and LeBron wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. The clear weakness of the superteam is being too top heavy. The GSW lucked out on under paying Steph early in his career to build the team around him. Now he's highest paid in the league. That cap increase that allowed them to sign KD also helped a lot too. Directly related to the popularity of the NBA increasing with their success no doubt. The way Brooklyn catered to unrealistic expectations from often injured often carried superstars teaming together was a pipe dream. Kyrie not getting vaccinated sank this whole thing ultimately which I'll give credit was the Titanic iceburg like stealthily unexpectedly done.

OMG I’ve been saying this forever. When he went to gsw, and said he doesn’t want to be a leader Steph and Draymond can do that, he’s just gonna hoop…that solidified it for me as far as putting him up there for best in the league at that time when the debate was him or Bron. I was already leaning Bron since KD was such a 1-way player at the time (he improved his effort on defense with gsw, but then again they also had dudes). But because of his personality I’ve always said he’s a number 1 guy skill set with a number 2 mentality. I also think that’s why it worked so well with Russ all those years, because he’s a number 2 skill set with a number 1 mentality. imo I think if he would’ve ran it back with Okc (assuming they handled business during the offseason) then they would’ve gotten over the hump.

The Nets should try and trade Kyrie for AD and then KD can play with a core of Simmons, Davis, Seth Curry, etc. He can just flesh the team out and maybe salvage his legacy some there. That team's not bad and it's way easier than trying to force his way somewhere else.

I think KD did make the right decision by going to warriors! But he should of stayed with the Thunder he has a solid team there at 1 point. But I like the warriors and he never should have left. He had something really good there. And if he would if stayed no one would have questioned his championships but he left. So now we are questioning if KD would of ever won any rings if it wasn’t for Steph, Klay, Dray! Well never know. That was his biggest mistake. He wanted to be the man. Well he’s the man now. And he can’t take the heat! So he’s getting the fuck outta the kitchen!!
@leroyrodgers60892 жыл бұрын
Nah, this exact argument you made is why he should have stayed in OKC. If KD gets 1 title in OKC he gets that Dirk treatment and then it doesn't matter what he does. Winning a championship for OKC just 1 championship would have been better than his two at Golden or at least on par with his two. And if he went on to win other championships with another team or with Golden State I would have no issue putting him in the top 10. See, Giannis for example will leapfrog KD in a year or two if he wins another MVP or a title.

I want to point out this: The Nets got *swept* by the Boston Celtics. A Celtics team that: Had to go to seven games to beat a Milwaukee Bucks team with no Khris Middleton, had to go to seven games to beat a Miami Heat team where practically everyone was injured, and lost to the Warriors in six games. After the first round Boston only won two games in a row twice: Games 6 and 7 against Milwaukee and Games 4 and 5 against Miami. Yes, Jayson Tatum didn't seem he could put two good games together after the Brooklyn series, but to be swept by a team that limped to the Finals and lost, no other series in the playoffs resulted in a sweep, and over 70% of GM's predicted the Nets to win it all pre-season is something everybody at Brooklyn should be ashamed of. Plus, the things Kyrie and KD said and did from the moment Game 4 ended to now just makes me shake my head. I don't care about your talent on the court, I wouldn't want either of you to on my favorite basketball teams. Not that Cleveland or Houston made your lists of trade demands, -- you only want to join "winners," but still, um, that is a resounding NO.
@KO-mr2hl2 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, the question on whether KD made the right decision depends entirely on what's important to KO. There were issues in OKC. The media talked a lot about why Russ was often taking over in the last 2 minutes, rather than setting up KD. Each year they fell out of the playoffs, in the media it was wondered if KD needed a true point guard and stated that Russ was more of a 2. I don't really remember, but it seemed to me then, in the last 2 minutes when it's time to win or lose, OKC turned the ball over a lot and fell short because of that more than anything else. KD always backed Russ and, I think, began to see the media as a team divider (read "an enemy." And who's blaming? Cut it out). Was the media correct? Would better coaching (or stronger influence?) have helped? When KD joined GS, I think he saw their brand of basketball, and I think he called it "beautiful... the way basketball should be played." When he left he just wanted to play hero ball again. He didn't want to play that way anymore. He didn't like Kerr asking him to trust team his team mates and pass the ball (not saying he didn't... I think his assists were the most of his career). And his defense was lauded as the best he had performed. KD is always great individually, but he became a champion as part of a team. Whos' mvp? (smh). Is the GM more important than the person who cleans the toilets? I don't know, but I'd ask the customers and not anybody else. GS execs at the parade, did not feed the ego (of any nba player, let alone one of the best ever!) and ow, ow, ow (self sabotage!!). Away from the court, after the game, I think the team all went back to their wives and kids, maybe? They were in a different stage of life. When KD went to Brooklyn, he was joining a friend. Someone on his same stage. They had the dream. It didn't pan out. I'm not going there. I think KD and Kyrie should play it out in Brooklyn. They have a good chance to be competitive and maybe win. A string of good health is all the need. Best wishes to you KD. You deserve. K
