The disk screen when you’re waiting for a game to read so you can actually open it is completely unnecessary, but at the same time somehow brilliant. When you see the disk drop into the slot on the screen and the title for whatever game you’re playing comes up it just feels so perfect

IMO, the Wii U itself wasn’t necessarily a bad console. It was just handled really poorly by Nintendo. Yeah, the loading sucked, and there wasn’t enough third party support, but it was nowhere near Virtual-Boy-bad. I have a lot of fun memories playing it before I got my Switch.

I unironically still play my Wii U to this day, over 7 years since I first got it. For me, it will always be my favourite console because of the memories I made with it - Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, Nintendo Land are games that I played all the time with my friends. And, of course, a Virtual Console that you could get lost in for hours on end. It all holds a special place in my heart.

Yeah I loved the fact you could turn the Wii/Wii U on and off just by pressing the power button on the Wii Remote/Gamepad. At least the Switch can be turned on with the Home button, but to turn it off we can only select sleep mode from the home menu. The WiiU didn't have a Wii emulator. It literally just the Wii OS, as the WiiU used the same architecture as the wii, just higher clock speeds and more ram. The same goes for Wii playing GameCube games. That's why the system has to reboot when you enter Wii mode.

I remember my Wii U, it was so happy getting the 3D World Deluxe edition. And for some reason, i had like 5 wiis. Ah the memories, the 2000-2011 were good years! I didn’t get a 3DS until last year. And I got Animal Crossing: New Leaf and New Super Mario Bros. 2.
