Sikh communities in the West also have langar meals. Other community groups are also starting to run similar projects. Where I work (a Baptist chapel in the UK), food and labour is mostly donated. I can still smell and taste the tea my aunt would make in a big pot on the stove. They called it yogi tea, it had cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and a bunch of other things. Really delicious. And she'd make this potato dish with lots of fresh ginger in it that was out of this world, couldn't get enough of it. When we were younger, they'd wrap our heads in turbans just for fun. It was great in the winter, they really keep your head warm on a freezing cold central NY winter day. Super comfortable too!
