This was a really fun story to listen to and you did a great job telling it! Thanks, guys! What's interesting to think about is how back then your mode of transport wasn't identity-focused like it is now. When driving a horseless carriage today becomes such a core part of your identity, it's tough to want to work together because you always feel threatened. We do need to bring back some kind of good roads movement united front again!

I noticed that ebikes have become a very popular thing these days as a mode of transportation as they are very affordable compared to a motorcycle or moped and much cheaper and easier to maintain then an automobile and you do not need a driver's license to operate one and thus people don't realize that these new bike lanes are to accomadate a growing trend. Just like in Carl's early days, the transportation system globally continues to transform and further develop be it on wheels, rails or in the air or even on the water in some cases.

I while didn't know the crazy anitcs of Carl Fisher I did know that originally the highway was the concept of cyclists. I recommend on watching a history documentary called Dixie Highway. Its help understanding that highways used be very different concept of day. Yes, it was about connecting USA, but forgot about it was about connecting the countryside with the trains and city, sometimes think urbanist overly romanticized the urbanism before the car. Also, highways where more vine like rather than linear, highways, I also think they confused with freeways a lot, which has a more concert definition. A lot of country roads were old highways. I have thought for years we have rails to trails but why not old highway. There are abandon stretches of the Dixie Highway. Think it would be great to revitalize old routes with bike trails. In some ways highways were always 'stroad' like, in that commercial businesses would line the street of the highway originally this was farmers, to make profit from passersby not developers. You still see this a lot in the countryside.

Great story. You just made one big mistake at the end that might affect any future visit to Toronto 😂 Olivia Chow is the mayor of Toronto and she promoted bike lanes. The problem is with the notorious Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario (like a governer of a state) and he passed a law thatnww bike lanes in any city must be approved by the provincial government as they "slow down traffic and cause congestion and they also enabled the dismantling of existing bike lanes in a few of the main streets. Doug Ford's brother was mayor in the past (uou might remember the crack usage story, he was addicted to drugs and alcohol). doug also run dfor mayor but lost so he has a grudge against the people of Toronto. The law that was passed is mostly for contruction of a new highway and a few other expensive and unnecessary highway projects.

I hate 99% of the things Ford does, but at least he's standing up to the Orange gong show threatening to tariff everyone by countering with a threat to shut off the power. 😄
