By now the Chevrolet Corvette has cemented itself as the staple all American sports car, a perfect budget option if you do not have Ferrari or Lamborghini money but you do have a pair of jean shorts. But how exactly did the Corvette rise to the top of its food chain, especially in the world of motorsports? Chevy took a page out of Ford’s book and built a racing program around the Corvette, and just like the Ford GT, they took the Vette to the pinnacle of road racing, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I remember reading about the C6-R destroying the competition. At which point I was wondering why people were hating on the Corvette. I've always thought the Corvette was a phenomenal car even with the pushrod V8. They make amazing power and are fun to drive. Till this day, the car I will buy to track will be a C5 Z06. Even with all the crap plastics in the interior, garbage seats, and other BS. That's a great toss-able car to learn to drive fast in. Thank you Chevrolet Corvette team.

I love watching the Vettes at Limerock. You FEEL them pounding the ground on the way by (or vibrating the inside of the RV's bathroom.) In 2016 when they won their 100th race and 60th 1-2 they did the most bonkers burnouts on each part of the track for fans to see. You could hear them on the front strait from the back strait. I love the original guys too, but I can tell you being in front of a camera trying to talk about cars (or anything) is extremely difficult; even for the most extroverted of personalities. I definitely could sense his enthusiasm for all things automotive...it was there. I have been nervous in front of the camera before shooting a commercial for an automotive service department, and I was stunned at how difficult it was. I cannot imagine doing it in a second language! Looking at the videos that were posted a long time ago by Donut that featured James are very different. He grew into his automotive personality, and really found his footing. Of course it also didn't hurt that he was an actor well before getting this gig. Give Felipe some time, I'm sure he will get better with each opportunity that he's given to showcase a vehicle.

The majority of the things this video uses to describe the C6.R applies to every other race car from the era, but it makes it seem like the C6.R was a pioneer of some sorts. And the map isn't used cause drivers forget the track. We use the map because referring to individual turn numbers is the preferred system when communicating. At a track like the 'Nordschelife', this system is very useful for advising drivers of accidents ahead, Code 60 zones, etc.

10:30 you know why that is? Because the tolerances are so narrow and tight in that engine it is basically seized until its brought above a certain temperature. It’s also how it can produce so much power and torque without forced induction.

They just needed air!!! To this day, I contend if the C6-R had been able to run unrestricted it would have challenged the P1-1s. And as far as Aston Martin besting the C6-R, they added 200 pounds and a smaller air restrictor to the Corvette. So it was rule booked. 😡

absolutely LOVE corvettes... you can get a taste of what it means to own a supercar, and you don't have to be rich to do it. my c6z51 is insanely reliable. the feeling that you get when you drive a vette is very special - you have this brutal muscle car that is capable of heroic handling and eye-popping braking. good job, GM!

Block size and displacement are different things, though big blocks are generally7.4 liters and up.

The race car only had 5.5L naturally aspirated due to class rules. What makes it more impressive is the engine only has 16 valves. They could have used a DOHC to gain more power at the 5.5L displacement cap. Their competition had 24-36 valves.

You can't really use displacement to denote a small or big block. For example Chevrolet had a 348 cubic inch big block W head engine but also had a 428 cubic inch (7.0 liter LS7) small black. Another example: Pontiac had engines going from 326 all the way to 455 cubic inches, all based on the same block. And Ford had two engines with identical displacement of 351 cubic inches, one was based on a big block (Cleveland) and the other was based on a small block (Windsor). The block families were differentiated by the deck height. Not displacement. At least as far as Chevy is concerned. I believe Oldsmobile had big and small blocks, but the difference was the crank journals were bigger on the big blocks.
