Anything already broken with no hope for repairs cause it sounds fun
@mywarrenmosler3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for doing this! For the record, the monocoque is 12oz e glass and some s glass over a 5lb/cuft pvc foam core. The doors have some Kevlar as well as the mounting area for the seat belts. The front brakes are Chrysler, the rears are Fiero because they incorporated a parking brake, Suspension is inboard using rocker arms to minimize unsprung weight. I personally got to take the checker at the 24 hour race at Nelson Ledges before we were banned. We were also banned from Car and Driver's One Lap of America after winning it 3 times. The Mosler MT900 was banned from IMSA after winning in 2002, and the FIA banned it from La Mans and international races, while it did win many races nationally in British GT, Spanish GT, Dutch Supercar, and others.

@alanmiller22503 жыл бұрын
Yeah i would agree. It should be sold as an independent car or as a kit and refined over the years. When it reaches it's peak- better suspension and cooling- it's a legit car that gets 25 or 30 mpg.
@RoonMian3 жыл бұрын
The Ultima GTR is a kit car a bit like this. Thing is though, the most laborious part of making this car is the monocoque. You don't just make that in your garage just like that. And as a manufacturer, once you've gone through the trouble of producing the monocoque, you can just make the rest of the car yourself as well.

Yup extremely cheap to maintain and reliable I have only broken a $28 charge pipe and a leaking slave cylinder this year both stocked by napa. This is a relatively benign example of automotive visionaries being fucked over by their big competition. I mean, in German car history alone we have Hans Glas, Carl Borgward and August Horch, who all made beautiful cars, to just name a few, though Horch managed to come back after being fucked over (you know him by the latinisation of his name: Audi). In the US you also have people like Preston Tucker who even got his own biopic and was played by Jeff Bridges, IIRC.,

I remember when this car came out, and that drivetrain was super awesome at that time. The Dodge Omni GLH was a fast little shit, albeit it was an omni but it was damn fast. And to those who say it sounds like a tractor, thats just the exhaust on that specific car, looks like a supertrapp muffler on the Consulier. Most people reading the comments here would have a smile ear to ear driving the Consulier. Also, Mopar at that time had go fast parts that you could buy directly from any mopar dealer......turbos, waste gates, ecm, intakes etc etc
@BigWheel.4 жыл бұрын
The 80s was certainly one of chryslers high points in terms of tuning and likability it would appear.
@Snake-ms7sj4 жыл бұрын
The stock version of the turbo II that was in the Omni GLH-S put out 176 hp. Guessing the Consulier has different heads or intake to up power to 200 hp? Then with the turbo III, 4 valves per cylinder were added bumping power up to 224 hp. The Omni GLH-S did 0-60 mph in 6.5 secs with a top speed of 130 mph. A real sleeper was the Dodge Spirit R/T with the turbo III motor. 0-60 mph in 5.8 secs with a top speed of 141 mph. Probably the fastest in terms of top speed was the Daytona R/T with the turbo III motor. Better aerodynamics than the Spirit, I think it was a little slower 0-60 mph in something like 6.2 secs, but top speed was 149 mph. I had a 1986 Dodge Omni GLH I bought new. I was in the Army stationed in Germany at the time so I was able to get it shipped over there right from the factory. Had the Catalytic converter removed (it was wrapped in plastic lying in the trunk) because Germany was still using leaded gas at the time. It was the non-turbo 2.2L with 110 hp. 0-60 mph in 8.5 secs with a top speed of 110 mph which I did on the Autobahn. 1986 was also the 1st year when the 3rd brake light was introduced. The Omni GLH was also one of the 1st American production cars to use low profile 50 series tires. GLH's also came ONLY with a 5 speed manual.

I was introduced to this car when it started in the 80s crime drama "Hardcastle and McCormick" . I think one was an ex con racecar driver and the other was a no nonsense judge. The judge gave the racecar driver a second chance and employed him to help solve crimes with spirited driving. Even the theme song was an homage to the car opening with 'Drive ! Push it to the floor 'til the engine screams . Drive ! Drivin' like the demon that drives your dreams" . Mercifully that is all I remember though there could have been a verse about "Drive ! You and a criminal get into a big ass bloody tift . Drive! Watch out for snap oversteer when you lift".

@Mert M but it doesn't matter if the car had a close time to the Corvette. Car and driver unfairly did it without making both cars even by giving both new tires,new brakes, maintenance, etc; to make sure that the cars are close as possible. But what I can recall from this video is that consulier didn't really state any rules or regulations for the challenge, which came out in his downfall. However, car and driver should have been more professional about it instead writing negative reviews just to spite consulier. They should have been writing and giving constructive feedback and criticism about the car and it's performance. Not write negative reviews because you feel some type of way.

@Mert M This video is a guy from "Donut" reading a wikipedia page almost word for word. What were the real rules? We don't know. Even then, I have never heard of a race where you get to choose the other guys car and drive it. Even if Warren Mosler was vague about the rules it's pretty unreasonable to think you can drive the other car, and then just claim you beat it with no proof. Mosler could have just repeated the same test with the same cars at the same track, doing some maintenance on the "driving school" car before.

I absolutely love this car. Always have. I think the styling looks awesome, it's got some old-school charm but it's so much different than most other cars, and yet still has some cool lines to it. The interior is absolutely fine, it's functional and has everything you'd need (I'd probably ditch the car phone, although it sure is a nice piece of nostalgia and I'm surprised they included that on the car). It wouldn't be too hard to hotrod that 2.2L engine a bit more, either. Although a car like this has a special charm in remaining stock. I'd probably limit myself to reliability mods.

one of the amazing things about these cars that does not really get talked about is how easy the car is to drive, not just physically easy, but how compliant the car is over bumps, the car does not rattle your teeth when you drive, it just sorts of swallows up the bumps. there is a bit of an overhang and scrapping the front bumper on a steep driveway is possible, but not as bad as many others
