From an experienced player, noobs are the hardest to kill. Chiv combat is so timing based that you can kill somebody by just throwing off timing attacks, and with halberd, using spacing and superior movement speed to avoid attacks.

I got into medieval fighting games because of For Honor, then moved on to Mordhau, then Chivalry 2. The Chiv/Mordhau games and for honor are the only games actually doing something new with the fighting game genre, and I'm all here for it. For honor is a good example of a game that's between traditional fighting games and games like Chivalry. Chivalry has no lock on or locked animation, but both games share that the main idea is to trick or sike out your opponent with feints or mind games instead of long combos and frame instant moves.

Chivalry 1 and Mordhau is way more realistic than Chivalry 2. Also, Mordhau is generally funnier than Chivalry 2 due to its memeability. Chivalry 2 doesn't have that level of customization and freedom.

Chivalry 1 started it all and Mordhau comes to mind because its similar to the OG game that started it all (Age of Chivalry) than Chivalry 2 yet all of them are still in the same genre. As a person who's played both Chivalry II and Mordhau, I can say that they have their differences but I still prefer Chivalry II. Someone might prefer Mordhau if they like customizing their loadout a lot more. Also, the playerbase isn't as big as Chivalry's, and the few people still playing Mordhau are either toxic tryhards or trolls that make a Hog Rider loadout.

To anyone thinking about getting this game, whatever you do, don't go into duels until your at least level 100, because at that point you should know how to do basic stuff. But if you chose to ignore my warning then be prepared to be farmed for kills by level 1000 players. (I'm level 500+ and still struggle against some of them)

honestly I recommend going into duels a bit early because if you're fighting level 500+ duelists all day then hop in a 64v64 you're going to surprise some people. Duels get you good at the game fast. Also seek out 1vx fights as that too will get you better.

Once that is done, For Honor will probably have close to the realist and most stylistic moves in a game. A close second is the Shadow of Mordor series, but even that could use some tweaking. The most brutal and badass combat of ever seen doesn't really have style; it's just brutal and badass-looking, hands down, Mad Max. The best martial arts combat is Sleeping Dogs and Sifu. Chivary is pretty cool and has some brutal moves, but a lot of it is rinse and repeat. Maybe they might get there in 4-5 But at the moment, chivalry has far from protected combat. I think I pretty much covered most of what you need to know.

Mordhau has all of these features except leaning the dodge, and you can attack in any direction. The "Counter" system in Mordhau is called Chambering, and you mirror the direction of the enemy swing, and it ends up looking like you parry their attack with the the windup of your swing. The combat can get quite fast paced, because if I recall correctly, repeatedly chambering each other back and forth makes the exchange faster and faster.

Clone Drone unironically has the same issue that has actively strangled Mordhau and Chivalry; with that being accelerates. Clone Drone MP fights are actually insane because much like Mordhau/Chiv, your blade is physically rendered during its swing and can collide based on YOUR movement, so you can do shit like jetpack spin to troll the hell out of people with basically unreactable attacks.

I'm intrigued. However I feel like I would handle this just a little bit differently. I'd say vertical and horizontal swing, and then pressing the two together makes a thrust. I would also tie stamina and health together in one bar. If you get an injury to a specific limb or vital area, that either does extra damage or disables that limb or some other punishment like a concussion that affects vision or something. This way, you could theoretically end someone with one strike.

@mouteg2176 fluid and free can make for a wonderful combat sandbox, no doubt. But when you're talking about a large-scale game that aims for longevity, it simply needs limitations for a wider audience to be able to work with. Like this guy said in the video, it's basic enough to pick up, but has enough depth to keep players interested for a longer period of time. This is evident by the reflective success of both games. While at this point, both games are on the decline, but chiv still has more players actively logging in than mord, and there are more active servers across all modes at all times of the day. By every metric, chiv came out on top. And it did so for a reason. If your playerbase needs to spend 200 hours to stand even the sloghtest chance to not get one-shot by the the long standing playerbase, they're simply just not gonna play your game. That's what chiv devs realized and focused on perfecting.

Chivalry is like a relationship doomed to fail. First you meet and this person is so much fun and interesting and you love learning everything about them. Then after a few months you notice their flaws however minute but you don't let it sour the fun you have with them. Then you settle into a routine and the fun things you do together just aren't as fun and the things you noticed that irritate you start to irritate you more. And more. And you cannot figure out a way to overcome it, and eventually you start to resent all the time your spending with this person until you finally accept that it's over and you need to leave.

@@yesyesy8793 Main issue is just that some core game functionality is broken and will never be fixed. Pay attention to cancel to parry specifically and you'll notice unexpectedly long delays out of actions in particular. Cancel to parry out of combo is the most broken. These are side effects of the fixes to remove quad feinting and then to remove machine gunning. The current and perpetual future dueling meta which bleeds into competitive teamfighting is to play around forcing lockout to hit people during instances of block microdelay and forcing people to read feint to heavy because you can't consistently counter feint those with the defense microdelays. If they fixed cancel to parry I'd probably never put the game down, but for now I just load up for premier league with the boys. Torn Banner says the game is "complete" and that they are proud of it, but all they can say they did is squander a potential game people could be enjoying an order of magnitude more. Chivalry 2 is a shadow of what it was meant to be and is even then worth a try. The exacerbating factor is that they sold dedicated server binary exclusivity to a company I can only describe as scamming, offering poor quality private servers in a game which is already at its netcode breaking point at 30 tick.

Almost every duel I notice i get red counters/hit through counter feints, cant block jabs, and the countless other bugs really annoy me, but i still really enjoy the game, atleast for now. With stalker 2 coming out I probably will be taking a break for a while and will have to see if i come back to this rubbish game. Sadly the melee slasher genre as a whole is quite niche and there's no other alternative to chivalry 2 besides mordhau, which is arguably dead. One of the cons of mastering chivalry 2's intricacies is that you will notice a lot of cracks in this game that others will miss. The average joe who plays this game will never be aware of these issues unless they put a significant time into dueling or really trying to understand how the game works. Ignorance is bliss. Beneath it all its like chivalry 2 is a luxury car with a faulty engine. It’s bittersweet to hear how much you’d stick with the game if these issues were addressed. it shows you really care about what Chivalry 2 could have been. It’s really a shame to see a game that had so much potential end up hampered by avoidable issues. Hopefully, Torn Banner or someone else takes these lessons to heart and delivers a functioning game.

Medieval combat games really need to fix their footwork, which more so than almost any other factor makes the difference in hand-to-hand combat. Chivalry 2 looks to have Skyrim's movement, where everyone circle strafes around on ice.

Bar none my favorite moment playing this game was when I was protecting the king. I was surrounded and I just lost my last weapon. I grabbed the nearest candle stick and with sheer force of will took out a heavy push single handed. I was known as the candle knight by my friends after that; truly a great time.

For Honor is a good 1 vs 1 fighting game, but for a team vs team melee combat it's not so great. It has the "revenge" mechanic that artifically rewards the player when they're outnumbered with buffs and healing if they play defensively for long enough. That's not a good system, it's also easier to block whatever enemy that you're NOT locked onto as oppossed to the one you are locked onto.

If you could just react to everything, defensive playstyles would just dominate every single meta because there's no point in throwing out a move that's easily counterable. Even when there are unreactable things, or places in which you are forced to guess, defensive playstyles are still incredibly solid. Any good fighting game will have offense be stronger than defense to promote interaction and incentive to start the initiative yourself. When defense is too strong (Way too easy), it discourages interaction. The best way to minimize the amount of guessing you have to do is to minimize the amount of options the opponent can do. I will say I primarily play traditional fighting games and I don't have much experience with For Honor.

for me, randomly choosing to do a heavy attack helps so much, similar to a feint, it messes up the rythm of the duel so ur opponent may stop blocking before your heavy hits. works for me in most cases

Funny, I remember playing with and against Jonesy. He was pretty good, but I've seen even cooler strategies. Play with him long enough, and you'll find a way to break his rhythm. That's the thing about Chivalry II most people don't understand; it's full of strategic creativity. Especially once you have a group. I'm mostly a lone wolf, but I've seen some awesome war mechanics before, even from groups without microphones. Anyway, great video, it's nice to see people giving the game some love.

This is by far the most balanced and fun multiplayer lobby game I've played. All your actions are contextually useful depending on how they're used and there is no meta to it. It's simple to understand but has a high skill ceiling that can be reached yet most people may die from arbitrary reasons. Most maps are purposely made to push attack and have defense get a chance with a few points they can hold to win if they take advantage of them. All the classes are specifically balanced for what you want to do rather than compete with each other by redundancy so it's a matter of what you want to do rather than which is the best. The icing on the cake is the Easter Eggs you find and the humorous props to remind the player that this can be a serious medieval movie simulation or a comedy skit waiting to happen.

We do. Mordhau is closer to the OG first person medieval slasher that started it all (Age of Chivalry/Chivarly 1). Chivalry 2 doesn't feel like its predecessor counter parts hence why Mordhau is usually discussed.

Chivalry 2's design choice made it look Fortnite/Team Fortress 2 ish which as an odd look at first for veterans of the franchise such as myself. Of course, new comers to the genre would pick up Chivalry 2 and say its a masterpiece since its built to be casual friendly and also they don't know the history on how the game once came to be so they pretty much never tasted the true experience of the genre from the start.

As someone who plays both mordhau and chivalry 2, both games have their appeal and the player counts are actually not all that different. But i usually end up having more fun on chivalry 2, the fights are more grand and it feels more chill and casual.

I've played against someone named Jonesy before. I remember because I'm a fan of the show Letterkenny (and the show Shoresy) which features a character named Jonesy and another guy named Reilly, and another named Shoresy who shit talks Reilly and Jonesy. I was using his shit talk lines while facing Jonesy. Adding to this, just the funny moments. I was playing the Bar Brawl mode, where it's just fists and environmental weapons, and while I had some dude battering the hell out of me, blocking and parrying all my strikes, I ran away, picked up a chair and threw it at him screaming "Parry this you fucking casual" and landed the chair attack for a kill. I felt so amazing.
