Singing is a great and complicated art. Genius makes it look easy. The fact that she’s young and a woman makes it easy to discount her enormous skill. She’s a genius. Some of it is genetic of course. But it’s art. The rest is grotesque realty TV garbage that discounts art that sells a story that it’s just normal people who sing like that. No. No. That’s a lie.

This is a little thing, but one thing I like with the Voice in the UK versus in the US, is when the judges leave it until the last second to turn around not because they don't think the person is talented, but because they want to experience a lot of the blind audition actually being "blind" and also it gives them a chance to hear a little more of the vocal range before making a split decision. In the US it often feels like there are a lot of instant-turns.

The Coaches gave her the right song. Without Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney, Ava would not be possible. The compositions are so good the only way to fail is to not make them your own. 20 Royal Academy opera singers have more technical facility, but they will struggle to bring what Ava has to a song. Ava served the songs as well as any experienced professional singer could. I am a very experienced musician who spent my early years in secondary school and university as part of rhythm sections for vocal jazz ensembles, musical productions; later performing church music and in cover bands. Ava reminds me of Jordis Unga when she performed "The Man Who Sold the World" on the old INXS show and the first time I heard Carrie Underwood on "American Idol". From the first note at the "audition" I heard that undefineable "something". Ava's singing, taste, groove, appeal, tone and control are exceptional. Fantastic work!

It's actually a warning signal for me, if people don't like animals. Especially the people who hate cats "because I can't just pet them when I like and they don't see me as the boss". Major red flag! My cats love being petted by me and listen when it is important. Why? Because the immense love and respect I have for them is shown daily and they must feel it. If I have strangers in my home for a fix and my cats run... I'll be very on guard. And I'm only friends with people who like animals.
