I'm personally unsure of that. Thrawn is only one person and putting him in such a high position such as that could limit what he could do. You wouldn't want the top dog of your military in harms way all the time because if something unforeseen happens, the entire military is crippled. (Which really did happen after Yavin and especially Endor. The emperor himself died.) The only reason they got away with that with Vader is because he's a Sith lord with an aura of invincibility. Secondly, other imperial officers are ambitious, cutthroat, and at times xenophobic. (This xenophobia has always been a thing and spiked after the clone wars.) They will all try to undermine him any chance they get. Same as with Vader except he had a good ability to keep them all in check. Also in canon, he did not receive the appropriate respect a grand admiral should have. In the first book "Thrawn" we learn he was looked down on my a number of his superiors and other political elites simply due to him being non human. In "Thrawn Treason" it Is learned that imperial high command simply don't respect him even as grand admiral and many even see his affinity for art as the butt of a lot of jokes and nothing more than him "liking pretty pictures." And in rebels, Admiral Konstantine flat out disobeyed and disrespected him. Only the people who care strictly for results, more respectable people in the empire, (Who are not a commonality.) or those who have served under him for periods of time truly respected him. (Higher ups like Tarkin and Yularen or his direct subordinates such as Vanto, Faro and a few others.)

You forgot one important thing about shields: how they protect from debris. So, because a TIE is unshielded, every particle of dust could tear it apart. And if you're in a battle with ships being obliterated, there's going to be some debris. Great video as always

Probably cracked through the armored shell and penetrated a lot of important subsystems, I'd imagine even some damage to the superstructure of the Death Star. Even if most of the Executor explodes it's gonna do some extreme damage

I remember reading in the novelization years ago that the Death Star was severely damaged and alarms and system failures were going off all around Luke as he had his little father/son moment. Even if it hadn't been main reactored again [seriously, just put a grate on the exhaust port…] it was still going to need to go back to the shop.

One thing I might do would be to, well, produce a half dozen to a dozen of a very expensive fighter, all the way to even putting in kaiber crystal "super lasers" (capable of destroying pretty much any fighter-sized ship with a single shot or something because one-shotting similarly sized things seems to be the general trend for kaiber weaponry), and handing a couple to Darth Vadar and the rest to whatever other sith pilots we have lying around in the legends material. Oh, and give a couple to Thrawn as well, I'm sure he'd be able to make good use of them. Oh, one other thing I would do, purely for the lulz, is to make a star destroyer that is literally just built around a giant light saber. It would basically just be a "ramming" ship that specializes in shields and armor, point defense weapons, manueverability (and at least being able to briefly move quickly forwards), and having a giant lightsaber beam sticking out the front. So naturally, it would just dive into the enemy fleet and quite literally attempt to slice enemy ships in half. Because why the hell not make a light-saber-ship that gets way too close to the enemy and then proceeds to just slice ships in half?

One overlooked advantage of even 1st generation TIE fighters: TIE pilot flight suits could survive vacuum (mostly because the ships had no life support). Conversely, hit a Rebel fighter in the canopy glass with so much as a slingshot and the pilot's is dead in seconds.

I'd be interested how the best of the Empire's pilots would compare to the best of the Rebel Alliance in similar starfighters. TIE Interceptor pilots were veterans who managed not to die while flying around in TIE Fighters, correct? So would learning in a more dangerous fighter mean that they'd have sharper skills overall, or did the slight edge in maneuverability let them make it as far as they did?

In my opinion, the weakness of TIE's is sometimes exaggerated in lore. In the movies, TIE's are highly maneuverable and fast, perhaps more so than X wings, and while shields offer far superior protection it seems like a TIE can still effectively shoot down a rebel craft within a burst of fire; the difference is an X wing can incapacitate a TIE even with a glancing hit.

Nothing serious. The Empire would have come back again, the Rebels would have lost a second battle, or would have left already. Unless you mean that the Executor would have been destroyed (bloody unlikely). Then i would have no idea how that would have affected everything.

They did win, in the sense that they covered the retreat of their units and didn't get killed. But it would be interesting to know what would have happened if the "ion cannon" would have been able to disable the whole imperial fleet. This would also have prevented the fleet from communicating, so they would have just been waiting in their giant useless floating metal boxes until someone either blows them up, or until they starve, or until they randomly get rescued.

@@SmartassX1 The Effect of the Ion cannon lasts only for a limited amount of time. It depends on the power of the cannon and the size of the ship. In this case an ISD would have been disabled for something between 30 minutes and 2,5 hours. Also this doesnt neccessarily count for starfighters inside, so they could have still attacked with TIEs or landed with Lambda shuttles. Also also, there were many ISDs and the Ion cannon reloads slowly. The Empire could have reacted in time to call backup, or land with an ISD on ground.

#AskEck Seeing as it's Canon (partly) through Star Wars: Commander, is it possible that the Galactic Empire's Project: Blackwing had a secret objective of unlocking immortality (possibly based on one of Plagueis's attempts) and used by Palpatine around the time of the Battle of Endor? Seeing as the original version of the virus in Legends was created by Darth Drear in order to achieve immortality for Sith Lords, something Canon Palpatine was looking for due to believing that the Empire shouldn't out live him. I'm feeling like this fight would depend on how the force interacts with the witcher's signs, because if, say something like Quen, can't protect the witcher from being tossed around by the jedi, I don't think the witcher can beat the jedi, especially in the round where the witcher's sword is normal steel. I'd say the witcher probably has the superior physicals though, barring force enhancement on the jedi's part, then I'd say it might be about even.

@@RCJJ32 A few years of war on the one hand, a lifetime of direct hunting for monsters on the other. Jedi sometimes struggle against experinced non force-sensitive being. Also I want average Jedi Knight, not Master.

john peck as I recall, they were being tested and used in small numbers, but were considered too expensive for mass production. They were also difficult to pilot for most TIE pilots without extensive training, which would have either/both kept active pilots back in training and/or gutted the fighter pilot command corps by reassigning them, some of whom would have been out of practice, to active duty.

Another one of these "Who shoots his superweapon first" matches. Both are around 5km long and have Superweapons to cripple, if not disarm the other ship completely. I also cant see any serious difference in weapons strengh. But i would give it to the infinity, because of its support fleet.
