Thank you for this video. I have a rare vintage Kenmore model that takes a 2 step buttonhole. The foot looks very much the same and believe I will be able to use the information with it.

I have recently had a go at button holes, I was bit nervous of doing them but the buttonhole foot used in the video make it so easy. Practice on scrap and make sure you mark your fabric accurately. The foot helps you measure the length of button hole and get them all the same. Just go for it .

Can you please explain what your settings were? Especially tension wise?
@MadetoSew2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alice, I didn’t change the tension when doing this stitch, on purpose to show what it looks like as standard. This machines standard tension is 4, but your machine could be different. I explained the settings I chose at the start of the video about 01:20 - this machine has a standard setting for the buttonhole so I am only choosing the length. The length dial doesn’t give me a number, I am just choosing as close to 0 as possible with the fabric feeding through the machine. I have a few other buttonhole videos with different types of buttonholes I’d your looking for more of a manual version? kzbin.info/aero/PLfxTlKMr7TsANL7M2_1nRzgl4b7-0bgnv Aneka

@@MadetoSew hej thank you, yes you explained it very well, sorry for my question, I don't know why asked you, I was watching the vid very concentrated but clearly not enough. I don't know why, my tension is everytime of and I play with it so long. The last time it was an hour and now my machine won't do anything but that even if I change everything. It is a very old gritzner 1004 and she sews so well but now she won't do anything but the buttonhole and even that she does wrong. I don't know what to do.

@@alicenataliamariailarda9046 Hi there, please don't worry. Sometimes it can just be frustrating. Now my turn to apologise for the delayed reply to your message. I would double check that your thread is actually in between the tension discs? Sometimes it can fall out, or not stay in between the disks very well; this will cause lots of tension issue but actually there isn't much wrong with the machine's tension, except that the thread isn't between the tension discs. To check this when you thread the machine and the presser foot is down the thread should have tension, when the presser foot is up you should be able to pull the thread more easily. It should feel different between foot up and down. This is the needle thread. I have a video on tension and trouble shooting: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJqaaWl7gc6lrNE maybe this will help? Otherwise I would try and get an expert to take a look or give it a service? Older machines are usually good, it might just need some tweaking.

i’m having a bit of trouble with the fabric going through, it wont move even though my feed dogs are up.. i have to push the fabric and pull it, which makes for a bit of an inconsistent stitch length, any idea how i can work around this? thank you :)
@MadetoSew3 жыл бұрын
Does this happen will all fabrics? Or just the fabric you are working with? It sounds like the fabric is too thick, and some machines can struggle with this. I would try some stabilizer, this should help the fabric to move through.
