Hi i have a 2007 seadoo rtx 215 supercharged it runs at full throtle for about a minute or so then dies but idles perfect once you let idle for about a minute it will take full throttle and do the same thing but if you ride 5500 rpm it runs fine without dying

Sounds like a fuel supply problem. Perhaps water in the line? I'd try some water in gas treatments, and then have the fuel injectors checked. Could also be the fuel pump. It may also sound crazy, but check the pump for any obstruction. Good luck.

Good video but spark plugs can be tricky. Just because they are sparking doesn’t mean they will work. Check the ohms on them. Seadoo has a built in spark plug spares holder for a reason.

First, check your spark plugs. Then, make sure you don't have a plugged air line (remove the air hose to the engine temporarily). Then check your fuel line. After that, check all hoses and clamps. Essentially, you need fuel, spark and air for an engine to work. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things can can go wrong and it's impossible to diagnose over the internet, but those are some starters for you. Good luck.

In our case it was a problem with the fuel pump. We figured it out by testing the fuel injectors. Are you able to test your fuel system?

Just finished up checking the elements you advised. Turned out OLD FUEL is the enemy that struck today. One spark plug was burned so that was changed. Still no idle. Then found two clogged fuel injectors. Once those were cleared, still no idle. Ended up being fuel pump was clogged.

"Improperly placed rubber seal" Are you referring to the rubber seal at the bottom of the fuel pump that is seated on the internal filter? If so can you tell me what you did to fix it? Is the internal filter supposed to be fully pressed onto the rubber fitting on fuel pump first or should the internal filter be seated in the base and the spring pressure forces the connection to the rubber seal? If the internal filter is press fitted to the fuel pump seal first and then inserted into the canister it does not seem it would serve any purpose or filter properly.

It was a rubber seal between the pump and the outlet fitting that wasn’t letting full fuel pressure out to the injectors. Chris had taken it apart during the winter and didn't reinstall it properly. I'm not sure how your pump is set up, but our mess-up caused improper fuel flow.

We use a Candoo Pro to fire each injector individually out of the engine, so we can see how they're spraying. If you find one that's not spraying properly, you should try flushing some fuel injector cleaner through it, and try to keep the solution in the injector for a few days. If that doesn't work, you'll probably need to shell out $150 for a new one. Not sure if anyone else out there has a better solution ...

Can I ask you a question? I have a 2012x260 I just rebuilt the motor, and I get 130psi per cylinder I have verified the timing of the tooth gear and I also verified the timing of the cam. I have a new CPS. The only time it starts is when I pour gas down the spark plug tubes, after that it kinda sputters out. The fuel pump assembly is brand new and I can activate it in my candoo. The interesting thing is that when I activate the injectors on my candoo nothing happens, HOWEVER when I lift the fuel trail out, and then try to start the ski, I can SEE the injectors spraying….. odd. Right now it’s a no start situation.

I wouldn’t worry about the Candoo operation at this point. If you can see the injectors spraying when you try to start the ski, that’s the main thing. Verify that the spray is a strong, though. It should be a nice mist that’s consistent with all 3 injectors. Make sure your spark plugs are clean and working properly. In your year the spark plugs needed the top metal screw cap removed so they fit inside the coil packs properly. Make sure the plugs fit properly in the coil pack. When troubleshooting, make sure you remove the air hoses to the engine to ensure it’s getting full air. If you bought an OEM CPS, that shouldn’t be a problem. If it isn’t, that may be the source of your issue. The fact that the Candoo pro doesn’t appear to work with your system makes me think it’s not an OEM CPS (or the wrong one) and that could be an issue. Good luck.

We do mention in the video that it was due to an improperly installed rubber seal that was blocking fuel flow. That was Chris’ fault, not the factory’s.

I have a gti 155 2007 that runs fine for the first 6 gallons from a full tank then quits could this be the fuel pump float?

The float is only there to send a signal to the fuel gauge on the dash. When it quits can you hear the fuel pump running when the key is attached ? I would remove the fuel pump assembly from the tank and see if the filters are clogged or something is wrong with the pickup tube.

I was out on the water with my Seadoo Speedster 150 4-tec 215 HP 2007 all day and it ran perfectly starting and stopping perfectly. Finally I turned it off and it would never start back up. It turns over strong it just never fires. Additionally there are no fault codes displayed on the gauge cluster. Could it possibly be the fuel pump? Or would that trigger a fault code? Can I spray starter fluid in the air intake to get it going initially? Or somehow spray gas in there (I just heard someone else mentioned this and not certain of the legitimacy)? Appreciate any assistance

That's a tough one. There are a lot of reasons why it won't start. I'd start with the spark plugs. Also, we don't suggest spraying started fluid in fuel injected systems. Your fuel injectors could be fouled, but it's unlikely that it would just fail like that without running poorly for some time before. I'd then follow up with removing the air intake to make sure that's not plugged. Start with those and let us know what you find.

i was wonder me if u can help me, my jet ski has a problem with the rpm, it doesn't reach more than 6000rpm and it has to go up to 7000 or more, now it only can go 50 kpm and before the issue 70kph the jet ski only has 4 hour, i took it to the dealer and they say that a have to replace the pump because the pump suck something but it is not cover on the warranty. my question is: what is the deal between pump and rpm, are they saying the true, why it is reducing the speed and power. this one is a yamaha v1 2015

Sorry, I just noticed your comment. There are a few reasons why it doesn't reach maximum revs, but bad pump bearings are the most likely. I'm surprised they would have to replace the entire pump. The reason bad bearings (or damaged pump) could cause a decline in the RPMs, is because the drive shaft is supported at two ends: the engine, and at the pump. So, if the either support end is damaged, it can't spin at its maximum potential. I hope you got your problem solved. My apologies again for the delay, I don't know how I missed your comment.

I have a seadoo rxp 215 and out of the water it idles between 1800 and 2200 and seems just a little rough. any ideas? Maybe fuel filter? I know last time i was out it was only running about 8000rpms when usually 8120 hoping just crappy gas.

First thing to always do is check the spark plugs. Make sure they're fresh (changed every year), and clear of corrosion, etc. Make sure they're screwed in properly! Could be your filter, but could also be a fuel injector. Check all air inlets first, before checking fuel system, though. Take off tube to air intake to rule out nothing is plugging up the system. It could also be your driveline, though (pump, carbon ring, etc.). But I'd try those first. It's hard to diagnose these things over the internet. Good luck!

It could be. It could also be that your ground connections are no longer good. There are a number of them on your engine. I would make sure they’re all good before troubleshooting your fuel pump. You will probably need a new fuel pump filter anyways, so it’s probably worth pulling it and checking it out after you deal with a possible ground wiring issue. Good luck.

If you’ve checked the oil, plugs, battery, etc. and everything checks out, I would look for a bad electrical connection …likely a bad ground (possibly on the engine block). It could also be the DESS post is bad. Good luck!

If you have fuel leaking from the top of the fuel tank, you'll need to remove the unit and thoroughly examine it for the cause before riding it again. I wouldn't even power it up until you've addressed the issue, as leaking fuel can can an explosion. Hopefully it's just a connector that's loose and nothing will need replacing. Good luck.

Hey man, I got a 2002 seadoo gtx that someone had fried the electronics by jump starting from a truck. I got a new ecu 02-05 and it started up. It will run if u continue to hold the throttle but it won’t idle( prob not getting enough air?) also it puts out black smoke (which I’m told can be fixed by changing the map senser). Could u give me any advice?

Not sure what to say, unless someone put oil in the fuel tank on the 4Tec models there is no way oil can get into the fuel system are you sure it's oil and not old fuel from the machine sitting too long ? Drain and clean the fuel tank and refill with fresh fuel then try it again.

I'd start with changing the spark plugs, if you haven't done so already. Also, make sure they're all sparking. Also check the fuel injectors to make sure they're giving lots of fuel. You should also remove the air intake hose to the engine and see if that helps, as it could be a partially-clogged air hose. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

You are incorrect. 3 thing required for all internal combustion engines. Fuel Ignition Compression Doesn't matter if it's diesel, gas or turbine. All have to have those 3 things to function.

@@3ftDeepChannel air is part and parcel of the fuel. Fuel- correct amount delivered at the correct time with the correct amount of the oxidizer. Ignition- happens at the correct time and in the correct way. Compression- this one is missed the most... Compression means that all of the mechanical components that need to function in the correct sequence and in the correct manner to create the environment for the combustion event that happens when the other 2 conditions are satisfied to be used to create the force we use to do work. The specifics of how those 3 things are used in an internal combustion engine is unique to the engine. All I'm saying is that in describing ICE functions in general terms there are only 3 components that make up the process irrespective of the type of engine.

It's a tough one to troubleshoot over the internet, but I'll see if Chris has some simple ideas to try before pulling your starter motor.

Yikes, there could be lots of reasons for this. Start with the obvious and check your impeller and wear ring for an obstruction. Also, if the wear ring or impeller are badly damaged, that will greatly affect performance. Make sure you've got new spark plugs. Next, check for any damaged or leaking hoses or clamps. It could also be your fuel pump, but that's difficult to troubleshoot. Try those and let me know what you find. Good luck.

It could just be one of your engine sensors. If you have a CanDoo Pro, that can help with the diagnosis. It can be a very simple problem, or something much more serious. Does the engine turn over?

Some of the superchargers are black and some are red. If you have an internal intercooler, then you have a 215 horse power machine. Those intercoolers were only on the GTX supercharged Limited edition models.

Was there any water in the hull? Did you do any wave jumping or go over any waves? It sounds like spray from your carbon ring. A little is okay if you're going over waves, etc. but if there's water in the hull after your ride you may need to replace it.

No water and very little wave jumping. I’ll clean it down and run a short trip to see if I can isolate it. Your videos are really well done. Great editing and camera positioning. keep it up. The machine runs and accelerates great. top end 59 mph. After open riding it comes down to idle fine for a few minute but longer idling or cool starts it won’t hold idle unless I hold a touch of throttle. Run open for a minute or so then the idle holds for a little. Could it be a lightly clogged injector?

great video, I purchased a couple 2004 GTX 4-tec's, I had to do some work on them but both are sea worthy now and one is even up and running, I am having difficulty with the second starting and idling until I get out of the no wake zone in say 5 min but then I give it throttle to only have the machine bog down and die, I can only get it to start for a partial second then dies again until I get it out of water, on the trailer it starts and seems fine again. Where do you think I should start to find my problem? Pump is clean and plugs look good, any ideas?

No, that is very unlikely. I brought it up because that year model superchargers will definitely need a new building. If not, they can fail and destroy the engine. That’s why I brought it up.

I'll assume you've checked the battery. Another common issue with older machines is the ground. I suggest going around your machine and check all the grounding spots, especially at the front of the engine. Make sure there's a good ground. Also, check your wiring for shorts or burnt wires. If that's not it, it could also be your stator coils. Let us know what you find, and good luck.

It's unlikely that the ECM has disabled your fuel pump. It's more likely that there is some other problem, like a faulty pump. How old is your machine? Do you have any other issues (like loss of power)? Have you checked for codes?

It happened after I use candoo pro to relieve fuel pressure, then as per instructed I ran the engine then pulled the key after it ran out of fuel. I cleaned the ground connections then redo the relieve fuel pressure function, but this time kept the key in until the countdown time was up. Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it.

Double check to make sure you hooked up your sensor properly. It's strange that the problem started after you hooked up the new sensor, and I know of someone who had a similar problem after hooking up the oil pressure sensor the wrong way. Other than that, this is a tough one to diagnose over the internet. Check the air intake, too by disconnecting it from the engine to allow it to suck directly from the air. Good luck!

The rectifier wont keep you from getting up to speed. It only charges your battery. I had moisture build up at the bottom of my plugs once. Dried the plug holes out. Fixed my problem.

Good vid. Quick question. Sportster 4tec started smoking on the water. Now won't start. It cranks, will start up for literally one second and that's it. Changed spark plugs and oil, no help. We haven't made any videos on that yet, but it's very easy. You just need to buy a gauge like that found at the following link, and follow the instructions. Please help !!!!! 2010 sea doo rxt215 new plugs with good spark, new battery, plenty of fuel from injectors, 2 beeps when key is installed. Turns over strong but will not start. even tried starting fluid, Only 54 hours also took ECM from another running ski but still don't start.

Engines need 3 things to start: 1) air 2) fuel and 3) spark. You may have new spark plugs, but make sure they're sparking. Sounds like you've done that, so next step is make sure it's getting air (i.e. take off the air intake so it breathes straight from the air. Next check you're getting fuel. That's where I'd concentrate. Sounds like you may have a fuel pump issue or something in the fuel line. Make sure the fuel injectors are spraying. Good luck!

I got them in a charity auction and they have toggle switches under the front storage box and another on the right side..do you have any idea why would anyone install such things or why they wouldn't start ?

It's hard to say what they are without seeing them, but common the switches are often installed for a bilge pump, or for a battery cut-off switch. As for why they don't start, try first replacing the spark plugs, then make sure they're getting fuel (carbeurator/injectors, fuel pump, etc.). You can tell if the fuel pump is working, as when you put the key on you'll hear it buzz. Good luck!

I know this is a super old video but maybe you can help. I have a 2004 sea doo GTX supercharged and unfortunately it was flipped today and spent a good amount of time upside down. It was so filled with water it had to be towed to the ramp to get out. After draining the water out of the ski, I tried to crank it and it sputtered and shot water out the back. I did this several times until it finally cranked, but as soon as it did it was idling very rough and then kept going off. I wonder if I take the spark plugs out and let it get the water out by cranking it with them removed that will fix it? Not sure what to do. It was running strong this morning until a family member flipped it unfortunately. Sorry for the long post but maybe you can help me. I would really appreciate it!! If I have to take it in to the shop then I will. And do you think the jet ski is permanently ruined, the family member is convinced it is but I try to reassure him it's not. Thanks for any help you can offer!

You need to make sure that there is no water in the engine. Check to see if the oil has turned milky, and if so change it at least two or three times. It needs to be done very quickly since if there is water in the engine permanent damage will result. Good luck!

All right, so let I it sit overnight and went to crank it on the trailer. It finally cranked and seemed to be idling better. Put it in the water and slowly drove it around, still idled a little rough but started to sound better. Gave it some more gas and it then started getting up to speed (maybe 35-40) but every time I hit a wave it seemed to stall. Finally realized it wasn't going to work and was coming back to trailer and it started smoking really badly. Turned off the engine and drifted in and am going to take it to the shop tomorrow. Unfortunately I didn't have a way to the oil out before I tried it. Please be honest with me, how badly do you think it's messed up? The smoking is really worrying me!!! I'm worried it's going to have trashed the engine and be 1000s of dollars in repairs. Let me know what you think. Appreciate it

It’s hard to say. It could be very minimal damage, it could be a bit more severe. I doubt it needs to be rebuilt though. Keep your fingers crossed.

It could be. It could also be spark plugs. It’s very difficult to say. Essentially, do you want to make sure it is getting air, fuel, and spark. I usually start with the easiest and most accessible system and work from there. Good luck.

Hey.. can't find any information online for my jetski and was hoping you could help me out. 2003 Seadoo GTX 4tec (non SC). Just bought it and was going through it before I took it out and noticed a cyl 3 misfire. Did tune up on it, siphoned old gas out, put 5 gals new gas, new plugs, checked wiring to ECM as well as the other module (forgot the name) and all is good. starts up fine now and idles good, but when giving gas from idle it dies. Haven't run it more than 15 secs without water and am scared to run with water in case it dies while water is on. Any knowledge on this condition? Thank you in advance. Any advice helps! Nick

That was my old ski (except I had the supercharger). There are lots of possible problems, but I would check the compression in the cylinders next. I'd then check the fuel injectors to make sure they're not gummed up, and that fuel is reaching the engine. Then I'd pull off the air intake hose off and make sure nothing was stuck in there blocking the air flow (like a plastic bag, which has been seen before, but not by me). A good way to check that the spark plugs are firing is to get a Candoo Pro. The way to check it in water is to launch the ski and tie it securely to the dock while running it in "neutral". +3ftDeep started it up this morning, seems to be a lot better! I am assuming it was bad gas. Is it normal to have a slight hesitation during initial start up when you blurp the throttle? Seems to rev up "okay" now. Still not to my liking, but a million times better. I will check the intake tube. I actually have the ski apart right now and I have a buddy with an injector cleaner. I will see if he can give them a good cleaning.

The fuel pressure was far too low. Chris recalled that he had worked on the pump over the winter, so we decided to check it. When he took it apart we found the bent rubber seal. Mechanic error. Thanks for your comment.

+Ali Musur P0231 sounds like a problem with the fuel pump or the wiring to the pump. A low fuel reading on the gauge will not change how the machine runs until it eventually runs out of fuel. With the seat off put the key on the post and you should hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds to build pressure if you don't hear the pump run then start looking at wiring problems or a failed fuel pump. It could be. You can check the fuel injector function if you had a Candoo Pro (see our earlier troubleshooting video). I suspect it's your supercharger, though. You should take the intake hose off and see if you can spin it. If it hasn't been rebuilt and it has ceramic washers, they could have failed. If it were my machine, I'd remove the supercharger and check it out. Good luck!

Thanks. The problem is with metering the fuel injection. The injectors were actually spraying, just not enough because of the issue with the fuel pump reassembly. Your technique is very good when just ticking off the boxes "air", "gas" or "spark" when troubleshooting, but may not have led us to the fuel pump in this case.

That's why I stick to a 2 stroke , iv never had any of these issues, this is why the factory's went to 4 stroke, It's Costs 5x more to maintain then 2 stroke, you have 50% less to worry about , It'll be fun they said just put gas in no mixing it'll be fun '! Ohhh but don't forget you gotta change your oil and oil filter every some many hours ohhh and almost forgot about timing , valves , fuel pump , fuel rail , fuel injectors, Oh and you'll need a laptop and a $500 software to tell you why it won't run , And it'll cost you 3 grand to rebuild that top end WHEN not IF WHEN it blows up, I just don't understand the point in all this to ride a jet ski , I have 2 cylinders and 1 carb , I put oil in my gas and ride all day !, store it away take it back it mix gas and ride, !
