We're on Day 41 of me cutting out the ads, remastering to 4K, and posting these daily. Goal is to have a clean "perfect edition" archive of MR on the Scam Nation channel, where Modern Rogue was born. I usually post just before noon central time. We're now well past any re-uploads, and into the part where this is all-new content on the Scam Nation channel. so can you setup that tails system just to use the normal internet and using it as a vpn, since the main thing is making sure you can't be tracked? People always say you should pay for a vpn, but can you just do this for free

I suppose you can use boot up tails from a flashdrive, then run tor on it. But keep in mind like this video said, it will be slower than normal web browsers. And I of course wouldn't sign into anything like youtube, facebook etc on it lol If all you want is to prevent browser or ip address tracking, I would just use a vpn (probably using whichever linux distro that fits my privacy needs). And of course use a privacy focused browser like librewolf or brave etc.

You have the deep and dark web concepts a little confused. Anything behind a password is almost by definition a part of the deep web, as it is not indexed, but you do not need Tor to access it, just your normal browser. The dark web is different and yeah, it's made of networks that require special software to access them. Some may require Tor, some other programs.

Blind leading blind. ... Now isn't that a great idea considering that topic. A little info on the side: If you install Tor out of the box, it is by no means safe. RTFM applies. It needs serious configuration before you start using it and some care while using it. While the idea behind it is pretty good there is a lesser known fact about the people who wrote it, which you should better take some time to look up and then decide if you want to trust it at all.

Tor IS safe out of the box for the average user. Perfectly? No. But it is still much safer than a standard internet connection. And I'm going to assume that "lesser known fact" is just common FUD about government origins. Tor is open source, and there's been audits in the past. I'd assume they or the community would whistle-blow about a backdoor if it did exist.
