How to pass a job interview over Skype or Zoom. How to interview in-person for a job over Zoom and how to express yourself through a mask. Learn how to ace your interview when you have to sell yourself over a Skype or Zoom interview session. Learn my best Zoom interview tips and how to conduct yourself in an in-person interview while wearing a mask. Interviewing is tough enough, but interviewing for a job over Skype or Zoom makes it even tougher. Wearing a mask in a job interview is even more difficult, but I'm going to show you how to do it all.
Learn how to interview over Skype by hiring expert: Don Georgevich of: jobinterviewto...
#zoominterviewtips #jobinterviewskype #videointerview #skypeinterviewtips
What we are going to dive into is communication style for a skype interview. Now, have you ever heard of the rule of 7, 38, 55. And you're probably like, “Don, 7, 38, 55. What are you talking about? No, it just sounds like a bunch of numbers to me.”
Well I'll tell you this; smart guy, long time ago (I'm not sure who it is) came up with this rule of communication style and it's the rule of 7, 38, 55.
And what it really means is he's done scientific research into communicating and he found that 7 percent of our spoken words convey our meaning; our communication to someone else. Only seven percent of the words we say.
38 percent of our vocal tones convey our message in a skype interview. So, our vocal tones are weighted so much heavier than just the words we say and how we enunciate those words.
Now, the 55 is body language and facial expressions. So, 55 percent of your communication style is what's on your face, what you're doing with your body, what you're doing with your hands.
So, if you think about it; 38 and 55 is a lot more than just 7 percent. So, what I'm trying to say is if you go into a job interview and you're on a Skype interview, they can only see you from here to here and that's about it. And most of what you feel you have to say are just words. And so, when they ask you a question, you be like, “Well, so let me tell you, sir. My last job, I was the manager and I managed a team of people and we created these blue widgets.”
Now, if you listen to that, all you're hearing are my words. So, that means only 7 percent of my message - of my management ability - is being communicated to you. And what that really means to the interviewer is they're not getting the full message.

One thing I've been trying out for phone (not video) interviews is simply to *stand up*, causing me to use gestures which impacts vocal tone (think of what happens with stage actors!) If I'm sitting I usually restrained by the chair, the desk, etc & have a tendency of placing my hands or elbows on the table, which shuts me down physically. I've found standing helps me out in getting more animated which (like a smile) is somehow audibly perceived. Hope's this helps - try it out & see if you, like me, find it helpful.

Just want to say thank you for making all of this content. I hadn’t interviewed for a job in a while, and watching your videos really got me in the perfect headspace for my interviews. My resume isn’t perfect, it has gaps and I’ve jumped around more than I want, but I was just offered a job with a 50% base salary increase from my previous offers, and I was told everyone was uncharacteristically impressed with my answers. Your videos are what prepared me and made me understand what interviewers are looking for with each question, so I can’t thank you enough!

@@anosjc you heard wrong. First of all, capitalists want to make money and grow. To do that a larger population is necessary and imperative. This is why china is so competitive and prosperous. Your population is your market. Would you rather start a business in a town with five people and two competitors or a city of ten thousand and three competitors. No people no money. Pandemics are bad for business. Be smart. Get vaccinated and wear a mask. People before profit.

Thanks for all your helpful advice. I got a job because I followed your thoughts. I had an interview with the assistant manager & the manager of Dollar General Store in Sales. I had never heard of ZOOM until I came out to Washington, June 2024. Not afraid to be on camera, if the sound is turned " ON" & the camera is " ON". Both times, the employer could not hear my voice nor see my face. Practice makes perfect. Try, try, and try again.😊

Don - been binge watching your videos for the last 2 weeks prepping for an interview - great knowledge you are giving! I just finished the 2nd round of Teams interviews of 4 on 1....me being the 1 lol. Strange tip I offer - but I had heard that looking into your camera versus looking at the person that asked you the question, is the way to go - though it felt very odd. It is indeed the right way. I took it at step further and halfway through the interview stated to the 4 interviewers that I was new to interviewing online and hoped that when I was looking into my camera when I responded to each questioner, that they all thought I was looking into their eyes. They all smiled, nodded, and agreed that it is odd, but yes, they all sensed me looking into their eyes. Most of the interviewers looked down (in my perspective) to me while they spoke, but one person I noticed was looking into their camera, and they and I actually hit it off the best. In the end though, my design was to bring out empathy, and it appears to have worked. So YES - it's tough from life long training to look someone in the eye while speaking to them - to instead look at your camera, but it works!

I know this was posted over 7 months ago, but this is very helpful content. The way I see it is that you need to be animated as if you were hosting your own KZbin Channel. People that run a channel - no matter the number of subscribers, if they are not animated in what they do, people wouldn't watch them. In addition, the content they are conveying needs to be something worth listening to - same in a job interview. Of course, they don't want you to go over the top an do something silly on camera like a youtuber might do

7-38-55 law is not true, is completely wrong. You need to know what you say and the right words, you need to know technical terms and words, if you have a perfect body language and a perfect voice tone, but you don't know technical things about the job you are out of the game, instead if you perfectly know technical stuff, but you don't know how to manage your body language you win the interview because you are technically competent. Job interview is a sale and in a sale you must be able to solve the problems of your customer, you don't solve the problems of your customers with body language, you solve it with technical knowledge and practical experience

I always ask at the end "is there anything that makes you question whether I am good fit for this role"? they usually say no but then I know they could be lying because I usually don't get the position at the end

I've prepared myself for two phone interviews and I'm excited to discuss my prior job experiences. However, I've noticed the employer's recruiters are so focused on my employment gaps (approximately 1 year) or they will ask me if I know something about something "xyz". And, "xyz" is not mentioned in job announcement or on my resume. If this should occur again, how can I politely redirect the interview or should I acknowledge that the interviewer pretty is over.

Hi I really do appreciate your contact And a lot of things you say are extremely helpful thank you I’m forever grateful to you I have a question if you don’t mind would it be considered insubordination if you seen her immediate manager Breaking a safety Rule ! And you decide to write to the manager up on a discipline form. For breaking the same rule employees with written up for ?

Can someone explain to me why you’d interview with a mask on during a virtual meeting? I’ve never had an interview where it was required.

you wouldn't. If you watch the vid, you'll see that the mask is for a face to face interview.

I had video interview last week. They said I seem like a good fit. Ugh. I seem I can't figure what that means. They said I hear back soon either way. It for job that training starts in three weeks so I'm guessing if don't hear this week then I wasn't a good fit. Why so dang hard to get job? They asking what internet I use and asked if could start in September but I feel that may not mean much these days.

@@DonGeorgevich Hello, I really liked your video. What do you think I should in my situation. I interviewed with 3 people. The 1st was a brief phone screening with the HR lady. The 2nd was another 30 minute screen with the program manager, over webex. The, final was with the actual manager and another person on the team, plus the program manager, again over webex. I called the program manager to see what the status is of the interview process, he was in the interview as well, but just listening. He said, the manager thinks you don't have enough experience. At this point, do you think I should give up? They said, they are continuing to interview other candidates, and I might be considered for other positions. Thanks

I don’t believe the 7-35-55 rule. For starters, credible scientific experimenters publish their results, their methodology, and a link to their data. Also, different people learn differently. Some people are very aural. Others are very visual, and learn best through the written word, or visual displays.

so, technically you could have good vocal tones and body language and bullshit for the entire duration of the interview, and still pass the interview with a score of 93. That's some bullshit right there
