The verb *"estar"* in Spanish is one of two verbs that mean "to be," the other being *"ser."* While both verbs mean "to be," they are used in different contexts.
FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT:
1. Temporary Conditions or States
Physical or emotional states.
Example: Estoy cansado. (I am tired.)
2. Location
Describes where someone or something is (but not events).
Example: El libro está en la mesa. (The book is on the table.)
3. Temporary Situations
Conditions that can change, such as the weather.
Example: El clima está nublado. (The weather is cloudy.)
Differences with the verb SER
It is for temporary states and locations.
Ser is for permanent characteristics, time, and identity.
