random reminder that a great way to know what you're doing wrong is to view replays - and view it with a critical eye ok don't just get salty staring at your opponent!

Part 3 of my fighting games journey. It's been 2-3 weeks, give or take. I learned a lot, and I wanted to say thank you guys for explaining and giving me direction. A lot of different people really helped me out with their comments, and I appreciate it. It's going well, I now know what combos and attacks I should be looking for, for my character of choice. I am not consistent at all. I am working on making that better. I'm just working on actually playing and focusing on what my opponents characters' options are now. Still haven't fought against all the characters yet, so I have some big blind spots.

I saw someone say Akaraien looks angry when he is making his points. I am telling you, no he is actually being honest with you AND he is telling you the truth. People think they understand but in reality, they don't. It is what it is. The content in this 5 mins video requires months or even years to implement into your game plan. If you really take notes and watch high-level player plays then you start to realize the pros are doing exactly what he said, play with intention. Then you go back to check your own replays, or at least what I found is I auto-pilot too much to the point I just let the opponent beat me by punishing my pattern or reckless mistakes.

It's true. I started to understand those things at some point (not entirely, just at a certain level of comprehension), and now, when i play in auto pilot mode, i can feel it that i'm just executing without much thoughts what i have been learning, but it's hard to get out of it some times. I think to get good, you also have to learn match ups, very important. If you struggle against a certain character, you have to learn their options, and not always do the same things too(but that's obvious i suppose...?)

People tend to mix “honesty” with “looking angry” because they do not like to being criticized or told that they are doing something wrong. “I’m not that stupid” is the proof that this guy is not taking Akaraien tips and a way of reviewing his actions and improve, but as a critic telling him he was dumb lol

Objectively, 'how the fuck do you justify even attempting to play another character' sounds angry and it puts the learner on the defensive. There are ways to convey the same information without the angry sentiment. Maybe you think his delivery is useful as a teaching tool but there's a reason most teachers don't swear at you lol.

Play alot so that each button becomes like a limb to you. You don't have to think about using your hands to pick up something. Each button is an extension ofyour will into the game world. You don't punch the air before you scratch you back. The final secret is when to surprise yourself to surprise your opponent. If you think logical all the time you will be easily read.

There's actually nothing wrong with this if your goal is just to play the game and have fun. Playing multiple characters only becomes a problem when you are new, or _want_ to climb the tower or compete because is more than doubles the work required to be effective.

Youre making it so much longer to learn the suble stuff that way. Sure it give the most overall knowledge but then play vs somebody with 1000 games on their character and i can tell you, even if you counterpick you'll have trouble.

I've been playing GGS for 3-4 months and it's the first fighting game I'm taking "seriously" (or that I'm trying to really learn about). As someone who's been stuck between floors 6-7, it's relieving to know that I have no idea what Im doing and that there's still a shit ton of things to learn 💀. It's really nice to see how experimented players share their knowledge to those who probably have never touched a fighting game before, thanks Aquarim, very cool :)

Quite the title, & concise. Good points on intention & countering the opponent. I use all mechanics, watched tech vids & top players since launch for my main, replays, etc. But have never made Celestial (9th/10th floor). Some people have the same knowledge, better reactions, etc- & can win. Made sure to start when the genre did, but have limited time to play. Interesting vid.

Yes this! I don't care... I want to have some fun, and I am quite old, so as long as I enjoy the game and understand what I want I am fine. The issue is whit the Floor 10 people coming down from Celestial that rekt you on most of the matches because obviously the gap on level is high. Another factor most people doesn't consider is the reflexes and skill for execution, because you can practice but there is always a physical limitation and it is hard to overcome for quite an important % of players.

skill issue. If you have a problem with execution perhaps try an easier character or practice the execution. It's easier to do Testament's Overdrive than say Gio's for example. you did say you don't care though so why should it matter?
@Lanzetsu

@@javianbrown8627 Exactly a skill issue, not sure if you read or not. Not everyone has the skill needed even through practice to get that good, or everyone of us could be Messi with some practice.

@@Lanzetsu Well that mindset certainly isn't going to help at all either as you've essentially already set a limit on yourself. Those who made it to the top had struggles as well and were not always the best. But with your mindset, they would've quit before they even got close. I'm now saying you will always achieve your dream or end goal but aiming for it does make you better. Aim for celestial and you might just get stuck at floor 10 rather than any floor below. People on the internet often won't pity you, tough it out and try again

Funny you say all this, I don't have a main and yet I made it to Celestial... of course Strive isn't my first Guilty Gear title, but I think it takes a little luck more than anything. Some players are asleep at the wheel.

Luck definately matters when getting into celestial, simply based on skill level of the opponents you happen to come across. I think though a lot of people pick opponents based on the matchup favorability of the character they are using.

@@MimebladeGMail That's the way it should be, I still say all matchups should be blind starting around floor 9. That way if you make celestial it isn't because of cherry picking based on favorable matchups.
