How To Adapt The DBZ Power System!

Here's how I'd do it: Regular Ki- the most usually seen used by mortals it's your combat energy and it can be manipulated into many techniques. God Ki:If you manage to manipulate your aura to basically be in perfect synergy with your body your power will increase and you won't age and will be able to breathe in space. Defense God ki: Goku and Vegeta use SSG to access this sub category of God ki, it's achieved by Expanding your ki outwards and combining it with your aura. You'll be very durable, faster reactions,gain a healing factor but you might drop out of the form at any moment because too much Ki leaks. Offensive God ki: Goku and Vegeta use SSB to use this sub category of God ki. Use with a calm mind and will you pour all of your ki into your body without letting it leak. This will increase Strength and Speed and hide your ki from people but if cut ki will leak it will also cost stamina to keep inside your body and your durability isn't that great. Perfect God ki: Vegeta uses SSBE to obtain perfect God ki control. Both offense and defense are used here Ki isn't leaking (offensive) and if it is the ki will go to the aura in order to use defense but it takes great mental concentration and if enraged the form will go away.

Demon Ki: Dabura, residents of demon realm,King Piccolo and his minions use this version of ki. Stronger and more violent ki than mortal ki with more demonic applications and no virtuous training just pure hell inside of your mind, You must crave destruction or malice to warp normal ki into this ki. Techniques are similar to mortal Ki techniques but they are a bit more demonic and if killed by a demon a soul will stay in limbo or purgatory (King Piccolo arc). God Demon Ki/Destroyer ki: Demon ki but more refined and beings don't have to crave bad intentions making it just easier to wield it has most of regular God ki traits but if the Destroyer wields it he can put his malice into his aura onto others making them drop on their knees if not strong enough. Users of Destroyer ki don't send their victims to purgatory but can destroy souls with certain techniques. Perfected: not much difference just the same as Perfect God ki and you don't need to change your appearance (Think Topo vs Beerus one looks like he's transformed the other isn't different)

Spirit: Same as what yardratians said but little more to add. this can be achieved through meditation,Sheer Will and extreme confidence in one's self though meditation is the best way of doing this. Typically fighters like Krillin and Tien, Gohan or Goku would have an easier time mastering it and it's near impossible for evil to learn more about this power aside from basics. Ego also gets in the way of Spirit training (Be a little nice character arc for Vegeta) Spirit users have a plethora of applications that they can train to achieve but main usage can be that users of Spirit can leave their bodies and attack souls but this can leave the body volitile, They can also use their spirit to emitt extreme pressure like Destroyers can, Spirits or souls can't be seen unless you have spirit or God status or your dead. Spirit users can cut off pain reseptors and move their bodies even if too exhausted to move this is to do with more of possession as Spirit users can do that but that's if the host is knocked out. Has nothing to do with normal energy to it can't be absorbed (counters Moro), Can't destroy souls unless you have a magical weapon (power pole or Z sword) or a blessed item but you can beat them out of someone and if too far from their body the victim the victim passes out and their soul gains consciousness then the spirit user can go back to their body and destroy their victims body effectively killing them unless they can possess an empty body though they have to be quick because while doing this they can't move their body till they return to it leaving them open to attacks. Can change the way an object is if you meditate enough. Similar techniques to spirit is the genki dama/Spirit Bomb which requires spirit energy and health energy to fully form.

Magic: Unknown Users: Bibidi,Babidi,Buu, and Angels. Genki/Health energy:just standard health and vitality linked to ki but focused more on someone’s health rather than power but can be used by the Spirit Bomb(a combo of health and spirit energy) which takes people's health energy but works effectively well against evil and Moro's absorbtion which steals Genki and regular ki for Offense, Dende and other healers use this energy to heal.

​@@sonnywoods6846 just to be clear, the Yardratian multiplication keeps your strength the same, meaning you have 2x the total power, unlike Tien's Multiform, where it splits your power *between* the clones, meaning you still have the same amount of power. Also, Yardratian Gigantification does improve power; Namekian Gigantification does not. It is a bluff-- the only advantage it gives is whatever that size could get you. It is them literally stretching themselves outwards.

Unlike most shows that rely on their power systems to drive the fights, Dragon Ball’s power system exists mostly as a tool to support their mostly hand to hand/martial arts based combat. This is why you don’t see much "magic" type attacks with weird effects in Dragon Ball. If you want to overhaul the power system just make the usage and management of Ki a little more tricky and tactical (focusing Ki in particular parts of the body to defend leading to feints and other more complex fight scenarios, using it in bursts to allow for sudden increases in power that make an opponent managing his Ki well capable of beating an opponent with more Ki through tactics and surgical strike-type techniques.) as well as diverse (sensory type techniques, striking techniques, defensive technique, speed based techniques, techniques inspired by the animal styles of Kung Fu like Yamcha’s etc etc) and maybe put more of an emphasis on the strategic aspects of hand to hand combat which the subtleties of Ki control can just complement.

Im going to to try and keep this as organized as possible. Special Weapons Special Techniques Counters/Types of Energy Character Archetypes Naruto (Chakra/Jutsu) Hunter x Hunter Im going to start by saying that out of all the power systems in anime dragon ball z is by far my favorite and Naruto is second. The reason why is because its so seemingly simple on the surface but extremely complicated an unlimited already in potential that the writer knows not what to do with it. First off I like the idea that if your too weak your too weak and thats it you cant win. If someone is 1000s of times stronger than you thats a wrap, if you transform into ssj it also should be a wrap to anyone who was around you before that. Otherwise it undermines any sort of power increase. The reason why I dislike other anime power systems and down right loathe most of them to the point where I cant even watch the show because of it is because is precisely because writers try so hard to make it seem like you can overcome overwhelming power when you simply cannot. They do this, by creating the various things you mentioned, special weapons, counters, special techniques, and even before their can even be a chance to grow in power exponentially, fixed character limits and archetypes. Dragon ball z does not have these limits. And it is good it doesnt. All these other shows suffer from the infinity syndrom, trying hard to make it seem as if power isnt whats deciding the fights but in reality a special weapon/technique are infinite in power level if they can destroy someone no matter how kuch faster they are than you. How do you hit them, how do you perceive them, how do you even react. Doesnt matter, it is just a matter of deploying some infinite in power level thing to win the day or whatever. This forces someone to have to counter your infinite with their infinite something or die. That is when the writer and my honest opinion has given up on showing a compelling fight scene. Now you can have all of these things just dont make them infinite, just like your characters physical limits they have limits. Guns have limits, tanks have limits and so do light sabers. I think at least one Jedi master has caught a saber with their hand before and if they havent they have deflected blaster bolts with the force which means, lightsabers simply need to be more powerful than the average or most highly skilled jedi. People like Masters however may have some degree of resistance due to their overwhelming strength. This gives value to their power gap and status and what they worked so hard to achieve and doesnt undermine with an infinite variable. Dragon ball z is unlimited in potential and has by far the most complex power system. Why? Because there is nothing stopping any character from learning any technique or developing a technique logically speaking. I mean, ssj is a technique, all humans have to do is replicate the biological and spiritual process that is going in a saiyan and transform and boost their power, perhaps not as much but you get the gist. Ki is universal. You can read minds, heal, lift objects, create all manor of energy projections, clones, gigantification, transformations, different types of sensory can be enhanced, essentially anything you wanr you can do it if you train to unlock the ability or produce it. The problem is the writer never allows characters to create new advanced ki techniques and we only see glimpses of it and it is never seen again when they honestly should be. None of these however should be infinite in power level, that defeats the point of their being a struggle in the first place. The problem here is that dragon ballz characters are just so far more advanced from an energy control standpoint. Other universes simply dont have the same level of control of their universes energy system. Naruto is one however that towards the end begin to reach a similar status where they no longer needed to hinder themselves due to the overwhelming amount of chakra the top tiers possess, in fact there is nothing stopping them from learning every jutsu known to man kind or discovering new ones. Dragon ball actually has the balls to showcase this at times and break away from the only this character can do this type of thing, so we as readers can "relate" with or differentiate that character. Dragon ball does it too but it clearly shows this isn't a limiting factor. Now finally I will say that having all of the things mentioned is fine its just that for all intensive purposes Dragon ball z already has all of those things, besides infinite power which is supposed to be Zenos shtick. Now there are other ways to make a weaker character relevant in a series like dragon ball z. Besides what amounts to given them absord amounts of power, either through a blatant power increase or some infinite something. This is by putting limits on the reality as opposed to adding limitless items or things. Not so much limits to power, though that is fine and one way, but rules in place a universe that protects the little guy in a sense. Of course this would drastically change Dragon ball z but its either that or giving krillin and infinite in power destruction disc that can kill the grand priest if aimed properly. Otherwise characters stay weaker, which is fine. Have them face of against people their own level or have them get bodied all of it works. Everyone doesnt need to win all the time or at all. Hell kill everyone off if that is what would happen. But anyways, there is more that can be discussed like comparing Avatar the air benders and Narutos elemental based counters and how it really doesnt matter that much, it matter more how you use your element, unless of course one element completely nullifies another then it becomes an infinite and rock paper scissors and uninteresting. All Dragon Ball z needs to is give a reason why people who can blow up universes and planets and galaxies cant just simply do such. The power is just too great. But it can be remedied in my opinion without infinites.

I see what you're saying but if the humans tried to become sayains or something to become relevant again the transformations could get really stale and when it comes to the elemental advantages that isn't fully true, for Naruto at least. During the MADARA UCHIHA(sorry but it is MADARA I have to yell his name) vs. Fourth Division fight The 4th division used a water jutsu and it didn't immeadiatly cancel out MADARA'S fire jutsu, it took several just to equal it. But water still has an advantage over fire

The Goddess I don’t mind that you favor dragon ball z’s power system. That’s fair but to call it the most complex is far off. One of the biggest handicaps for the series is it’s lake of limits on the one power it does have. For example us someone who enjoyed the original dragon ball and the namek arc, In the namek arc it wasn’t just about beating someone up, dende was relevant, and the only thing he was good for is healing but nowadays that will never be used. Guldo was about to destroy krillin not because he was more powerful but because krillin had no counter to his paralysis. Vegeta while being strong wasn’t just “a fighting genius” he had to use his brain to actually get a hold of the dragon balls and keep them out of freezas sight. This made the arc more interesting than in the Android arch were it was just... ok so super saiyans are in style, get like them or get out. Captain ginyu’s body change was also a good idea but those ideas don’t last long because they cause issues with the main character having to deal with this getting, so they never really Get featured. Hit had a cool ability that would have forced foul to go about the fight in a different was or just get bodied while frozen in time, maybe he’d implement a smaller version of that into his own time, but no, they went for “yes... Goku releasing his ki has allowed him to be more powerful than time” and let’s not forget Goku getting blasted with his own spirit bomb only to awaken with his shiny new transformation because of “reasons”. Dbz puts too much stock into powerlevel, so much so that it for viewers that value consistency it is the unwatchable at times. For example is you mentions if someone is 1000’s of times stronger than you, you don’t stand a chance. I’d argue that if someone is 10 times stronger than you, you don’t stand a chance but the ssj is 50x it never feels like 50x. The amount of fights that go “goku tries to fight in base, but is losing s little ground so he goes ssj only go gain at best a 2x advantage is just jarring” I’m going off focus. anyways, I wouldn’t say that dragon ball z broke the mold or “had the balls” to be differ from modern shonen because that show is THE godfather of modern shonen. Naruto is not my favorite anime but they... “had” something going with the power system. You could had your energy blocked off leaving you with just your physical body. You had the eyes that cast they’re effect on you regardless of you powerlevel the unless you were strong enough in the “ocular” field to overcome it. But with dragonball it’s just well if you have enough ki, you’ll get stronger, don’t worry. And “generally” the states always increase the same, doing basic combat training in dbz will increase your speed strength endurance and ki all at the same time, say for a few blatantly bulky guys. But that just ruins specialization no one only has a speed advantage on someone else, no one uses techniques like what krillin used to kill the Saibamen and over all it had very little variety. Sure you can reference the handful of abilities that are possible with ki, but they are badly fleshed out, they get trounced by ki levels, and they are far less numerous than abilities in... almost any other show, in fact the only power system that dbz is more complex than is probably Avatar For obviously reasons. But again when you only have one overruling tote of power, all you have to go forward is power creep which isn’t handled well. Like everything in the Merged Zamasu fight. Random spirit swords, goku overpowering someone who just was winning in his last form, Gogeta blue not killing him in 12 seconds. And it just makes for s very dull experience. -they fight generally the same but goku is some genius, when he doesn’t do anything imaginative. He just fights, and he is the usually faster, stronger, and more durable than his opponents and when he’s not, he transforms so that he is. Then piccolo is seen as some smart guy, but the “complex” power system has no room for people who cannot win with raw power. I’m not sure If you know about card games but in games like hearthstone and magic, what makes the game interesting isn’t, THE MOST OP DECK!!! it’s how those decks can be shut down by something that was crafted to beat it. Now ik those Android were “created” to kill goku but they tried by doing, exactly what goku does “hand to hand combat... and ki blasts” it’s like trying to beat a premium player with the same deck they use but you don’t have any legendary cards, you get washed. And without counter play, it gets boring. Dragon ball will always be one of the greats but the power system while, great 25 years ago, does not hold up today. When you are the biggest name for fighting shonen and all I get is powering up, transformations, and the same hand to hand combat I see in EVERY FIGHT the only thing the show has gong for it is its story... and dragon ball z was never meant to be a show with a compelling story and it shows. The main takeaways is, while it was great as a kid, the power system is a simply one Martial arts, ki, and specialized lesser arts. - I’ve watched all of DB, DBZ, Half of DBGT and ALL movies and DBS so idk about DB heroes. I don’t hate the series because I respect it’s legacy but pioneers are always overshadowed by their predecessor.

Great video Buu is already what you describe in this video. Even without KI Buu can use magic to do things such as regenerate, use his body as a weapon (throwing his own flesh) and of course the candy beam, which is a instant win move. Buuhan technically won against Vegito, when he turned Vegito into candy he could have easily kill Vegito right there but because of Plot armor that didn't happen.

I would love for there to be a difference in spirit and chi and techniques. Humans execelling the most at it or more adept like Asari and biotics. This can give Krillin, Tien, and Yamcha some relevance with spirit energy being god ki level. For the techniques instead of physical or special like ki. They attack the spirit when contact with the body. No physical pain is felt from the attacks. But they feel it on another level damaging them intensely.

Godki could of been a good stepping stone that could really make the transition for everyone in the cast to deal with a new dimension of power, seeing as it's not Sayian exclusive in nature it just gave them unique effects like SSG and Blue. Unfortunately it's just a tool that propels Goku and Vegeta even more inconceivably further from the rest of the fighters. Yet it also seems to be contradictory or inconsistent at best. If Godki is that effective above regular ki then why Do mortals even manage to compete with it without it in the first place? Hit, Frieza, 17, Jiren of course being the supposed strongest mortal that surpasses G.O.D's, and hell let's throw Broly into it for good measure. I'm sure I'm missing some lesser characters but you get my point. I mean when seen both Broly and Jiren mop the floor with Goku in god and blue that the god forms looses it's narrative weight when a super discplined mortal, and a wild and out of control ki user who's power spews everywhere and is completely antithetical to what godki intially tried to instill gets bested by Broly. There's other things they could of done They could of given it different properties to it while Saiyans had their God Super Saiyan forms, maybe it could effect a Namekian like Piccolo in a different way, or the Humans with their Martial Arts discipline.

The wheels came off for DBZ during the Namek era. First of all we are taking the word of Frieza but more importantly is this: Goku was exhausted by the time he transformed. SS is more likely an additional source instead of a straight multiplier. The creator claimed it was meant to represent a power 10 times over what he had previously experienced. I am also considering the manga only. Anime has too much nonsense. Conservative estimates put Gokus base power around 120 thousand.after being healed from Ginyu and this is would also meet Ginyus base threat level as well even though it was determined a different way. His KK20 form would have been 2.409090 million and the ensuing Kamehameha at 5.30 million. Frieza would top out at 10.6 million and SS Goku at a tad over 24 million which bears out because he did not need to struggle during this part of the battle.

Don't forget Piccolo can make himself Bigger too, also Tien can clone himself and create multiple arms! Cloning was originally Tiens Tech in the beginning, not Piccolo, I don't think Piccolo ever did the cloning tech in the manga! But in DBZ filler both Krillin and Piccolo was able to clone themselves!

It is inferred that he has done secret training throughout the roughly 20 years between the start of z and end of super to get this strong. In DB and DBZ for the most part through their own efforts. No overpowered items that make their efforts useless. Their are overpowered items, but they are mostly used outside of fights. Even in fights items and special powers have less of an impact than the enciroment, time of day l, circumstances around the fight, and other factors. There is no bs rock, paper, scissors elemental system, no chosen hero, no ultimate power / weapon.
