Wow, 11 months has made a big change on the price of the eclectic cable. From $2.50 l.f. to $4.61 l.f. Really good video explaining things for people like us wanting to put a spindle of our Onefinity machines. I cant wait to get mine shipped to me this coming month.

Wow I didn’t look at any pricing since this video, but sounds like nothing has escaped inflation…. Price increase aside, I found the cable to be really well made and has worked very well for me. Thanks for checking it out, and see you again soon!

What would you order today for a Journey man in terms of accessories and tools for a beginner? Thanks again for all your wonderful videos.

@@educetheme4175 Hi Educe, In addition to the machine, controller (black computer box not the game controller), and monitor I would add the touch probe, dust shoe and the Joypad, which looks like an x Box control that you can use to manipulate the machine with. You might want to consider joining the Facebook group called "Onefinity CNC Users group (official). There are about 15K members there showing their work, sharing ideas and general discussion on bits, accessories etc. If I can help, let me know!

Hi David, I found that the makita does a fine job for everything I’ve asked it to do, the spindle was a bit of an impulse buy while waiting for my machine back in 2020. Truly only put it on because I had it, there wasn’t any true need.

Thanks, you presented a very practical approach and a great explanation. I'm starting with the Makita mainly to keep startup cost and complexity down. My plan is an air-cooled spindle upgrade and moving the Makita to an actual handheld (or perhaps cheap under-table mounted) router I can use on larger projects or with regular hardware store bits. My only question is, you say it's a 220v spindle, but are you supplying 220 or 110 going to the VFD from the wall? Also, how's the amperage draw on that VFD? I only have 15A circuit.
@TradeSkillersAnonymous
@TradeSkillersAnonymous 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, thanks for watching and your comment. My vfd is a 220v input, and draws an anticipated max of about 7 to 8 amps. 120v would draw roughly double that.
@danelswick9886
@danelswick9886 2 жыл бұрын
Just installed. Wish I had seen this earlier. Are you doing a video on the VFD programming? After hours of tweaking, it still will not communicate with the 1F. Don’t know if it is the VFD, Buildbotics, or the breakout board. Will just run manual for now. Almost as frustrating as the 1F itself.
@TradeSkillersAnonymous
@TradeSkillersAnonymous 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, I might very well do a VFD programming walk through, BUT, I pumped the brakes on that initially out of concern for the high voltage and chance for error. I won't ask you to put your email in the public area here, but if you go to my website, tradeskillersanonymous.com and use the contact us feature, I can send you the document I found online that guided me through my programming. Consider subscribing too while you're here, that way you'll hopefully see future videos as I release them.

So glad I found you JR. You have helped my first days with my OneFinity FAR easier. I also got overly excited waiting for mine and went all in on the all the things and ended up with a 2.2Kw spindle. So my ?? is: Do you control your spindle via the VHD or via the OneFinity control box? I am assuming we have to do it via the VHD but wanna make sure I havent missed something as there are more connectors on the back of the OneFinity control box. Thanks!!

I'm planning to cut a fair amount of aluminum so I went for the 2.2kW water cooled spindle. Should have it running in a week or so. Definitely agree with your comment about the relative difficulty of wiring it vs. programming the VFD. I watched quite a few videos before really understanding how the programming works.

Hey Joel, thanks for coming by and your comment. For sure to work on aluminum I’d have gone water cooled to get lower rpm capability. I’ve got a great pdf that someone made that goes over each setting in detail. If you’d like it, email me at jr@tradeskillersanonymous.com and I’ll send it to you. It isn’t my work, can’t remember where I found it, but I found it really helpful. Also, consider subscribing if you haven’t. Thanks, talk soon

I added a spindle and the touch plate was not working any longer something with the way it was grounded. Did you run into this problem? Thanks
@TradeSkillersAnonymous
@TradeSkillersAnonymous 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there MG, I didn't have any issues with the touch plate. You definitely want to make sure that your spindle is grounded internally, meaning that while most spindles have 4 terminals, the 4th contact at the spindle (which should go to the spindle case) connector doesn't actually go to anything inside the spindle, which is dangerous, and relates to lack of consumer protection on some products out of China (loose regulations on electrical safety there). With my spindles 4th terminal grounded, I can use the touch plate without grounding the touch plate, because my spindle is grounded, and because it's physically connected to my machine through metal contact, the machine is also grounded, so that typical magnet end is not needing to be connected because the ground is already established. An easy way to tell, is disconnecting any and all power to the spindle, VFD and machine (for safety) and after disconnecting the power, remove the top plate cover of the spindle, and you should see three small wires that come out of the back side of the "aviation connector", and the 4th terminal will either have a ground lead going to the spindle case, or the 4th lead will not be connected to anything. If it is not connected to anything, this is probably your issue. Be very careful while working around this kind of equipment, making sure you're never working on "live" or powered systems. May be best co consult with an electrician if you're not somewhat familiar with these concepts.

Power tools without a ground, are supposed to be “double insulated”. With the DI, they don’t require a ground.
@TradeSkillersAnonymous
@TradeSkillersAnonymous 2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you know what you're talking about in terms of electricity, probably more so than me. I just know that if there's a ground available, I'm going to use it. May not make sense or be rational or causing extra work, but I don't see any harm in making sure that there's an easier path to ground than lets say, me. = )
