At 18:40 he said it’s going to spin up to 1600, and then several seconds later he says that it’s at 1600. Just based on the sound I think he meant 16,000, but if not, that seems like a good reason the carve sounded like that. Otherwise, maybe too fast for the feedrate?

Just found ur channel man. That's a real nice CNC machine u have there. Do companies like OneFinity sell the programs with the power controller on their own or do u have to buy the whole thing together. I'm building my own CNC machine but the software and electronics catches me out. I'm not tech savvy at all and electrics scare the life out of me.. LOL I really enjoyed these 2 videos u made. I am pretty sure this is the 1st time I caught a full on video showing how to wire this whole thing in real time so I thank you for that bcos I have a VFD already but wasn't sure how to go about it. The ground wires are the thing that scare me. I know in the top of those Spindles that come from CHINA they a lot of the time don't connect the ground wire inside the spindle so u have to take the top off? Did u check that or is that a thing? I've seen loads of ppl on here showing themselves opening the top of their new 800W 0r 1.5KW spindles to show the ground wire inside the spindle is loose and not connected correctly. I got electrocuted badly one time and I know better than to mess with that stuff now.. Anyway this was a couple of brilliant videos pal. The cut from this spindle looked great too. I guess the right bits and speed rates and all that good stuff helps no end. Keep doing ur thing man. Salute from Dublin, IRE.

Thank you so much for providing the videos and your valuable knowledge and experience. Apparently, you switched from a Shapeoko XX Pro to a Onefinity. I am about to purchase m first CNC Router. Can you explain why you made this switch? I plan to manufacture something with relatively small parts mill from 12mm and 4mm Baltic Birch with a 1/8" compression bit. I'd like to send you a drawing if you would be willing to make a recommendation. Thank you again for your video.

ball screws and no v wheels. Onefinity can cut faster, deeper and cleaner. It also doesn't require a computer or wifi to run. Major upgrade from the Shapeoko!
@GoodYearForLiving3 жыл бұрын
Does your spindle pass an electrical signal from a tool or spindle nut to the metal casing on the outside of the spindle ( Measure 0 Ohm from the spindle nut to the case)? I know some spindles do where many routers do not. An advantage of this is that you could add the magnetic wire used in probing to be permanently mounted to the spindle casing near the top of the spindle. Route the wire back to the controller and it just stays plugged in permanently. Now when you do probing you won't ram a tool into the probing block from forgetting to mount the magnetic wire connection. One caution is that you may not want to run the wire along or next to the spindle 3 phase AC power cable because VFDs create noise that could be picked up on the probe wire causing the probe circuit to false trigger (thinks it's done a touch off when it was actually just random noise coming in from the AC lines. I guess this may not be an issue though because the spindle isn't on and making noise when probing. I'm sure someone has tried however.). Stepper motors also create a lot of noise. I made my own GRBL laser engraver a few years ago and literally couldn't home my machine because the limit switch wires were routed with the stepper motor cables. Sometimes I could home. Sometimes it wouldn't. The fast pulsing of the stepper motors would create false triggers where moving the limit switch wires a little might sometimes let it home. I rewired just the limit switches with shielded cable where I grounded the shield at the controller and all was good. I'm not sure if the probe wire is made with shielded cable on this machine. If it is and the shield is grounded at the control box then noise pickup may not be an issue as the noise would be blocked from being an input.

Can you set the speed now with vcarve when you select the tool or do you have to program the speed through the onefinity software for each job?
@davelethaby12793 жыл бұрын
The gcode that is generated by vcarve will include the selected speed you have chosen for the toolpath and that is passed on to the VFD/spindle.

I have the same kind of spindle in 110v 1.5kw and I would forever recommend the spindle over the router. Here's why: - Quieter operation. Routers are extremely loud. - Less vibrations. Routers vibrate a lot and have more runout. - More consistent power. And the BIGGEST perk of all is it opens up a range of new materials with the speed control. With a router you cannot control the speed through the software or other means. It's just the preset settings if your router has that. This spindle's lowest RPM in my testing is around 72 RPM and goes up to 24000. This allows so much more flexibility when it comes to feed rates. Stepper motors have their limits, especially on systems that don't have linear rails and can bind more easily. Sometimes you just can't run that theoretical feed and speed because it means you need to run at 24000 RPM @ 500 IPM which most desktop CNC's with stepper motors will not be able to achieve without losing steps. With the spindle, you'll have the ability to slow down the RPM and feed rate and still make good cuts without bogging the spindle down. There's a good one on Amazon that is a 110v 2.2kw liquid cooled ER20 spindle that I recommend. I meant to get that one but accidently purchased the 1.5kw ER11 version because they looked similar and wasn't paying attention. Extremely happy with it and they really aren't that hard to setup.

Great video. Quick question; These spindles typically have metric collets (6mm I believe,) does the spindle support imperial bits (1/4" shank) or did you need to buy a separate collet ?
@vivigarr3 жыл бұрын
Collets have a range of what they can accept, so check with the manufacturer. For example an ER32 6mm collet has a working range of .197-.236, which 1/4" is .250 so it should fit. However, collet sizes are standards so if you have an ER11 the max size they are made in is 7mm, which is slightly larger than 1/4". You can find sets of them on Amazon.

Perfect explanation. One question though (not related to the spindle, sorry), about referencing the Onefinity. Once you done it, does it remember it forever? Or do you have to do it again if it reboots. For example ,when you install removable orientation points to position pieces, I think there will be differences when you reference it again. Because it touches the metal and there are no sensors. Grtz from Belgium ;)
