I'm challenged when it comes to knot tying but I can tie the Alberto knot correctly thanks to your clear demo!

I like the Yucatan knot for mono to braid, it's fast and strong.

Solid knot definitely... We all have our favorites 😀

Hi Heath, I use the Alberto knot all the time and it works well for me. I like the bucket trick. It looks quick and easy to setup. I haven't been fishing for a while. We are packing and going to closing on our house on Friday. It's in Palm Bay, about a mile closer to the Indian river Lagoon, in a 55+ community. Tell the Crew that I said "Hi" and hope everyone's well. Take care and good luck, Mickey

You are finally a Floridian 😀. I haven't been fishing in weeks either. Been helping out with hurricane recovery, and any chance I would have the weather isn't agreeing. I think I'm gonna do some land based fishing here soon. Everyone is food here. Good luck with the move. Talk to you soon.

Hi Heath, Pier and beach fishing is easy and doesn't take up too much time to get ready. Just grab your tackle bag, rod and some bait and find a spot to fish. The fishing from a boat is always better but it's more work and time consuming. Have fun and good luck, Mickey

Heath I use a toilet paper stand holder , slides right onto the holder and there very cheap to buy .

I learned to tie the Alberto not where you exit the braid the same way as it entered and not opposite as you suggested .. I haven’t had it fail on me the way I’ve learned it

new to trolling my question is it alright to use braid first as backing then mono? Thanks in advance !
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing9 ай бұрын
You can, but there's no sense to doing it. Then only line my braid backs is a leader for planer trolling. Hope this helps.

I'm sure it's probably fine but I couldn't use $9 a spool braid on trolling reels I spent hundreds of dollars on. I'd be so nervous I got a bad spool and I'd lose a fish. It's so interesting how different areas fish completely different from one another though! We fish the opposite way in southern California. I have 500 yards of 80lb hollow core on my 30's with about 200 yards of 80-100# mono on top. 50's are the same but 100-130# hollow and anywhere from 100-200# mono on top. If I'm fishing the kite for bluefin I'll even go 300-400# mono on top . We use the braid to give us capacity but prefer to fight fish with the stretch mono gives us. I have caught nice bluefin, 100+ pound grade fish, on jigs where I'm up and down with only 50 feet of mono and it's tough. The stretch of the mono actually helps leverage the fish to me. It's almost like pulling up on the rod and feeling down. I also like being able to quickly switch out the mono after a big fish or two. 200 yards of 100 pound Momoi Diamond is very inexpensive when you buy a 10lb spool of it. I tend to just keep my needles with me and splice the mono straight into the hollow. No knot, not even a loop to loop, just a 100% spliced connection that runs through guides seamlessly. It really is amazing how many ways there are to catch fish and how different areas do it differently but get the same results!

Thanks for sharing. Depends on what I'm fishing for, I typically have a 100 ft shock cord of 60 lbs mono then my leader. Again thanks for the wisdom.

@@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing ahh I didn't catch that 100 feet of mono part! That stretch is critical to me so makes a ton more sense with that 100 feet! Still fighting the fish on braid but you've got the wiggle room that mono gives you. Always interests me how people catch fish!

I've been trying to Google why some people put braid on top of mono and why others put mono on top of braid but can't find the reason why.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Жыл бұрын
Braid on top of mono is so you don't have to spool the entire reel with braid. Mono on top of braid acts as a shock cord so you don't yank the hook out of the fish's mouth
