Great stuff, thanks for that and it's working brilliantly for us for a week-long event that we're doing!! We ran foul of the HDCP issues with Chromecast and didn't have time to buy a stripper so a long fibre HDMI cable from the desk of the SM Manager works well as a feed into our ATEM 2 M/E. The next step is to devolve the functionality to the remote client [gulp] by getting them to connect their computer to an ATEM Mini to our Streaming Bridge.

Awesome work! A cool feature would be a timestamp generated every time you select a question that shows in your live stream. So you can copy and paste the timestamp and question into your video description. Might be helpful for people searching through your previous live streams to see if a questions was already answered?

Once you bring it in with the downstream keyer you can switch camera angles and it will stay on top! If you want to use the buttons on the front to switch cameras, you'll need to change the key setting in the ATEM Setup app.

Actually I just tested and by default the downstream keyer doesn't turn off when you switch angles, it's only the upstream keyer that does!

Thanks for making the extension Aaron! You said we can make a macro to make set up easier each time if I'm not mistaken. I can adjust the ATEM to setup the correct input on the downstream key and the adjust the mask sizes, but what about resizing the actual youtube pop out chat window size and placement? I haven't figured out how to build that tedious part in... LOL. maybe I'm missing something there. The macros only seem to work for anything within the BMD switcher. Any help would be appreciated. Great extension Aaron. I have it working in Microsoft Edge (the new one that's Chrome-based) running on a Mac Mini and pushing it to an Apple TV connected to my Atem Mini Pro. Just one issue is that the black text of the chat person's name gets keyed out as well so perhaps a different colour like the same grey as the content background would work better.

Thank you for this Extension, I'll definitely try this one out! There was a problem though: Currently for the pop-out chat KZbin gives you the URL as "studio.youtube.com" but if you changed this to "youtube.com" followed by other characters that you nomally get in the URL box, you'll be fine!

Hello Aaron, Thanks for putting this video together. This is great! is there any way to make this work with Zoom Chat? We are currently using Zoom to teach classes. At the end of class, we have a Q&A where we answer questions from the chat box. It would be nice if the questions can pop up on screen as we answer them.

Hey Aaron, One issue maybe you can help with. When using the downstream keyer, I am taking out the black background but it also ends up taking out black from the avatar image of the user and making the black sections transparent. do you have a workaround for this?

I wonder if I can plug presenter's laptop HDMI into one input of ATEM MINI, my camera into second input and then in OBS have simultaneously streaming the presentation and the presenter filmed with camera. Is that possible with ATEM MINI or I would have to have a dedicated stream card for presenter's laptop and camera?

If you're asking if you will get two separate video sources in OBS this way, the answer is no. The ATEM will send one video feed to OBS. You can do composite layouts within the ATEM but it will show up in OBS as just one video feed.

I thought I mentioned it in the video, but the Chromecast outputs an HDCP signal so you'll need to run it through a splitter that strips HDCP before going into the ATEM

This is fabulous! My problem is I'm on the base ATEM Mini, so I don't have multiview. Also, I'm just using HDMI out from my computer, so it treats the input as a second monitor. I got it working, but I can't figure out a way to interface with the extension (ie click the chat to highlight) without it being live on my stream. Any ideas?

Forgot to qualify - I'm using an external encoder, so the Mini's HDMI out is my live stream.

You'll need to use the downstream key with a crop so that you can show only the bottom part of the chat window on the video, that way you can click the top part and it doesn't show up. The trick is mirroring your computer screen to both the ATEM and a monitor that you can see, or using the chromecast trick I used here.

Hey Aaron. I’ve been catching up on all your videos. You’re a genius. I have one question? I haven’t tested this yet. With it only show 1 message at a time? Is there a way to put a counter to hold a message for so long before it clears? And is there a way to have a “moderator” approve the message before it gets sent over? I work for a school and worry about what could happen if we use this with students.

haha thanks. This only shows a message if you click on it, and it will stay visible until you click another message or click "clear". It's not the kind of chat that shows all messages coming in.

Yeah that's intentional for privacy reasons, but I'll probably add a setting so you can choose whether to show the full name or not.

It's certainly possible, but I don't have any plans to do that myself. The code is public on github so if someone wants to add support I'd include it here!

It does use some network bandwidth but it's pretty minimal. The bandwidth NDI takes far outweighs what the chromecast will use.

Sadly the original ChromeCast has a weird HDCP bug where it will be on all the time even if you're not playing media. The newer one doesn't have that problem. You can try using an HDMI splitter to strip HDCP so that the ChromeCast signal is visible from the ATEM Mini.

@@2krazyketos Unfortunately it's a total crapshoot. Manufacturers aren't allowed to market products as HDCP strippers, so when you find one that does, it's usually just an accident, or they have to remove the product later too. Look for ones that specifically *don't* say they "support HDCP", which is the closest thing they can do to say that it removes HDCP.

The ATEM Extreme chroma/luma keying works the same way so that part will be the same. The extension doesn't handle Zoom chat, but if you mean can you share KZbin chat into a Zoom call the answer would be yes.

No ATEM - no problem if you're using OBS to live stream. Just add the popped-out chat tab created with Aaron's extension as a window capture in OBS, add crop and luma filter, position and zoom in or out.

There are some options in the settings for customizing the sizes of various things. It's a bit tricky but you should be able to shrink it if you want.

I am not getting the extension to work in Chrome. Two potential issues?: First, I dont have a chromecast to take the signal back into the ATEM mini yet, but that should not stop me from popping out the chat into a new tab as you have demonstrated to test the extension working, right? Second: I am using Chrome on a PC. Does the fact it's not on mac make a difference for the extension to work?

It should work fine on a PC although I haven't actually tested that. Without the chromecast you can use the ATEM as a second monitor, it just is a little harder to manage or requires a bunch more cables. Make sure you're on the KZbin.com chat link not the KZbin studio link

@@aaronpk thanks!!! The problem was in copying the link from the pop out window. It was coming up with studio.kzbin.info yada yada. I just modified the url to remove the studio in front of youtube.com and it worked!! Great stuff. Now to go set it all up on a laptop to run the live stream from it instead. The computer i’m going to be using is for a flight simulator setup and I will be pushing it too hard to run the livestream on top of it all.

Make sure you've loaded the KZbin.com chat not studio.youtube.com. Once the extension is installed then opening the chat in that browser should change the styles like this. If you have different browser profiles the extension would need to be installed in each one independently

I forgot to mention it in the video, but you'll need an HDMI splitter to strip the HDCP from the chromecast, or use one of the newest chromecasts that doesn't have the HDCP problem. How can I activate word wrap ? The chat hast limit of 200 characters but the overlay is not wrapping them.

It should be wrapping the text, but it still might get cut off with really long messages. If you often get long messages you can change the text size in the browser extension settings to make it smaller, or just zoom out in your browser.

You'll need to find an HDMI splitter that strips HDCP since the chromecast only outputs an HDCP signal that the ATEM can't read.

Yep you can! The ChromeCast/Miracast device outputs HDMI so you can connect it to anything that can take HDMI input! (Make sure to get an HDMI splitter if you’re using the old ChromeCast though because of the weird HDCP behavior)

One issue with using a computer directly connected to the ATEM mini to have the computer feed the chat window into the ATEM, is that once you start applying the mask and have the downstream key on air, you lose sight of the comments and the clear button from the live chat extension. My connection needs to feed through the ATEM and then back to the monitor to be able to see what I am doing. I cannot duplicate the screens between computer and monitor as I am monitoring the youtube feed on the computer. I think using a device like Chrome cast is the only solution that is viable unless I am missing something here.

The Chromecast is definitely the simpler solution. If you wanted to use the computer directly you'll need to run *two* HDMI cables, and mirror that display on both. A mac can make two external displays mirror each other but still be separate from other monitors. Another option is you can find an HDMI adapter that has two HDMI ports, or you can use a 1x2 HDMI splitter. All those are a lot more complicated and require more expensive parts than a Chromecast which is why I really like that option.

@@aaronpk Another workaround that I just thought of - due to limit of only 1 HDMI out on my laptops, I will open up the youtube stream using a separate laptop (laptop #2) to create the live feed and when I use the pop out chat function from that laptop (#2) then I will to transcribe the URL into the laptop #1 chrome window. That way I can duplicate the screens on laptop #1 and be able to see what I am doing. I just need to keep the ATEM Software control minimized on laptop #1 after everything is set up. I can monitor my live feed on laptop #2. I thought of using an iPad, but because it is a mobile device, you cannot select a stream key (it just wants to use the inbuilt cameras only).

Of course all of that is temporary until I acquire a chrome cast dongle. Just don't have the money to spend $100 on the chrome cast... all the other gear I already have strewn about here somewhere. I have a good internet plan for download and only the ATEM is uploading to the internet, so should be good to go.

Using a separate computer definitely works too! A chromecast is only like $30 USD tho so it's not too bad. You don't need the newest one.

Sorry no, supporting another browser means a lot more work and testing, and I don't have a good way to monetize this to make up for it.

Ok. PROBLEM SOLVED: Currently for the pop-out chat KZbin uses the URL "studio.youtube.com" but if you changed this to "youtube.com" followed by other characters that you get in the URL box, you'll be fine!

Yeah if you're using streamyard! I like streamyard for how easy it is to use and get going, but it's also very limiting in what you can do with it. But the built in chat comments is so good!

With the latest KZbin studio pop up chat was not working so I had to take out "studio." from that link and it was working as you showed. "studio.kzbin.info_chat?is_popout=" does not work, "www.kzbin.info_chat?is_popout=" works! thanks for making it as easy plugin.
