Best refrigerant you can ever find, efficient, less GWP than 404a and 410a and for some reason it was used for so long! Just 0.05 ODP! And they want to ban it...

Have an old R22 unit that does not cool well. I believe it uses a piston as the metering device, but I can't see inside. On the outside unit it has "Piston no. 70" on the label. The suction side line near the outdoor unit never seems to sweat, or get cool. My low side pressure is 75 PSI, and my high side is 205 PSI on a 90 F day with high humidity. The liquid line pipe temp was about 92 F, and the suction side pipe temp was about 64 F. So, I calculate about 20 F of superheat (64 line temp - 44 sat temp on guage = 20), which is too high, right? (should be about 5 according to the charts). Indoor WB was about 60-62 F. Do I just need to add more refrigerant? Or is it normal that the suction line does not sweat? Thanks to anyone who can offer advice!!

What size system is this, I'm inclined to think the indoor piston could be a bit large based on those pressures. Maybe the air handler is moving more than 400CFM/Ton? Your compression ratio is 1.88, meaning the compressor is having an easy day. Typical compression ratio is 3~4. If the system was undercharged, the compression ratio would be much more, or too high. I bet you've got an indoor txv and need to concentrate on subcooling, which seems a bit low. And that superheat is high in that case. But make sure it's an indoor txv so you know for sure, got to know this.

I have a 2.5 Ton Carrier (27 years old) with almost leak free system. You will lose some heat removal capacity from the air on days with high humidity. In your case, you can add some refrigerant to get the low side to 80 PSI and the high side 220 PSI to see the low side sweat. What is your Indoor DB temperatur?

Hi You sound like you know how to charge the ac system with SC and SH. FOR Topping off an AC system. For R22 3ton 10LBS system. Evap temp 40F - What percentage of freon (LBS) is lost when the suction line freezes @ 32F. And it it more % (LBS) for R410a because of a high evap temp 45F. Is it less than 3 LBS? Just try to figure customer costs for jan 2022.

Weird Charged a r22 unit today the low side was at 70 which is good but the high side was at like a hundred. The air from the vent got 5 degrees cooler so I left it like that. 75 ambient temp Any reasons?

Since my money isn’t good enough for the hvac guys where I’m located …I’ve rigged up a hose for a vehicle with adapters that will fit my central air unit and bought a can of r22 online..gonna attempt to charge it on the low side vapor instead of high side liquid…all this could have been done and paid for in full if the hvac guys in town weren’t so prone to violating peoples civil rights…sad what egos are doing to the profession…u tell someone u do hvac ur probably going to get shunned and treated like the dirt bags most are…u have a responsibility that comes with ur chosen line of expertise and when these guys pick and chose who they will do work for it’s bs! Especially when the customer NEEDS ac or they could die! There’s a medical condition that requires constant temp be at room temp or the blood thickens….so yeah! People can die without ac! And when someone can’t get ac because the hvac guys are too good to work on a home that’s in progress of being remodeled…it looks like crap but it’s a home! Get over it! The notes are the same as rich ass joe down the street! U get to chose whether I get to live or not? Nope!

How much did you add? Also what are your current ac symptoms? If it was a little bit don't worry. Do you have a Txv or piston on your system?

Nothing bad is going to happen actually to your AC unit. It would be much slower to charge if your bottle pressure is still higher than the high liquid line pressure.

@@LubaLuba1 The moisture removal agent is used together with a leak sealant product. My 27 years old 2.5 Ton Carrier is still almost leak-free so I did not need yet to try them. I do not have an answer to your question.

This ac system is 30K btu 2.5 Tons R22 4.75# or 76 OZ SP 60# You added 13 OZ to raise the SP to 70# . R22 loss = 13 / 76 17% loss @ 60# PSIG R22 What would the % or LBS at 55#PSIG suction pressure.
