Have had an StG.58 for many years now. A local guy and his son built it as part of a lot of 20+ matching parts kits with Steyr barrels, but they needed DSA to time the barrel, which they did do but the barrel's rotation is such that muzzle devices are noticeably "off." Still delivers 1 1/2 - 2 3/4" groups at 200 yards with the purpose-made surplus Austrian ammo I primarily used. Surprisingly svelte and handy for such a long rifle.

I have a DSA 16" preban carbine. It has never failed me. No stoppages, no failures. I do keep spare parts just in case but haven't had to use them. I'm considering building a para type using DSA parts and, years ago, built a long barrel DSA FAL as a DSR. Ended up selling it but it worked reliably too. I just didn't need or want a long barrel version. The 16" FAL is all shock and awe. Hard hitting 308 and shockingly loud. Definitely guaranteed to stun anyone in close quarters. Best part to replace on a DSA is the handgrip. Replace the classic FAL handgrip with the SAW handgrip from DSA. Very nice and comfortable. If you want to check out customized FALs, look at Vandenberg Guns out of Texas. He makes unique FALs in multiple calibers.

I bought a DSA paratrooper 20 years ago. Biggest disappointment of any gun I ever bought. The bolt stop fell out after 300 rounds. The back top corner of the receiver where the hinge is located makes contact with my safety glasses. Of course that just probably means that the length of the stock is in correct for me. The gun did feed and fire every round I ever gave it. But the cost of over 1500 dollars 20 years ago and having parts fall off of it put a bad taste in my mouth so I sold the gun and stuck with my old century arms R1A1 FAL which works just as well and only cost me 399 dollars but of course that was almost 29 years ago.

@TwinklesTheChinchilla2 ай бұрын
Properly made G3 pattern rifles are considered more robust, (they're one of the few guns that can be found soldiering on next to ancient AKs), PTRs are quite economical, and the mags are far more common and cheap. They also have great sights and shoot well. That said, they are a nightmare to clean, and nowhere near as user friendly as the FAL. People who think the AR platform gets dirty have never had to detail a roller delayed weapon. And being someone who cleans after every range session or hunting trip, I keep the hard to clean rifles in the locker. Still, they're both excellent in their own right. But if it were me, I'd lean towards a FAL Para or OSW, if only because I know I'd stop using the G3 pattern: their actions just suck so much filth back into the receiver.

@@thefalguy9848 My attraction to the M14 platform is because it is effectively a mag fed Garand. But the M14 platform uses the stock as a structural member, and if the action does not fit just right, and with constant tension in the right places, the M14s and their clones tend to shoot rather large groups. Yes, there are bedded stock target models straight from the factory. The user manual advised not to remove the action from the stock, or the bedding will go loose. But, to clean the action, you need to remove the action from the stock. I would prefer the FAL, but I move to another state, I simply won't have one. I originally bought my 18" para from DSA around 2012. It was an abject POS. The magazine seat/shelf/whatever in the front of the mag well was comically out of spec and caused a huge amount of bolt-over-base failures. Additionally, the gas system was wildly out of spec and it was shitting an absurd amount of gas. To top it all off the SEAR was kinda fucked and when combined with it's out-of-spec gas system caused multiple string fires. Feed ramps were razor sharp and would slice through the neck of cartridges where they would then get hung up. So overall mine was absolutely terrible. I had to send it off to Arizona Response Systems (Gunplumber) to get it disconfuckulated. IDK where DSA is at right now but they got into the FAL game by purchasing some really clapped out second-hand Steyr tooling which caused a ton of QA issues. After getting the rifle back from Arizona Response Systems it's been perfect. I've got well over 10k rounds through it with nary an issue and I barely ever clean the thing.
